Hey all, first time caller, long time listener here. I manage an upscale multiplex in Los Angeles. We have a lovely IMAX theatre, however there just is not enough IMAX product to keep it profitable year round. So what happens? 35mm ends up in there and I think no one is a fan of that. Well what I am looking to do is get my hands on some great 70mm films to show in there.

Sitting next to the IMAX projector is a Century JJ 35/70. It's all ready to go with a mag reader, a mag processor hooked up to the CP650, a DTS 70mm reader, and a DTS 6D also hooked up to the 650. It gets great light with it's 7k bulb and glass reflector. It gets such good light we don't have to use 35mm drive in prints. We also do not use the IMAX sound system for 35/70, we have an entirely seperate JBL 6.1 system.

The screen is 86 feet wide. Now we all know 35mm doesn't have the detail to do a screen like that justice, but I sure think 5/70 does! So where do all of you come in? I need all the help I can get. From where to get prints, to how to get the word out that we are gonna start doing this, to fun technical suggestions.

If you are managing a theatre already. Then shouldn't your booker / booking department be able to get those answers for you on print availablity? Also note that some of those new restrikes of 70MM prints from some studios can only be run reel to reel change-over and can not be plattered. There are still older prints still available from the studios but not that many and they have many miles of wear on some of them.

Check with your booker for the answers.
