While it's not the top (and it actually came out in 2006), I was pleasantly surprised at how well "We Are Marshall" did not only in WV, but in VA as well.

It's still grossing well in our Virginia theatres as of right now. Heck! We're in VT country!

I thought this was going to be a prediction thread. What the hell, I'll predict anyway....it's going to be "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."

2nd place: the Harry Potter movie.

I'm hoping "Ratatouille" does well but, Pixar might have a tougher time with this one.

I think it will be Pirates 3, Shrek 3 and while most of the gross will occur in '08, possible National Treasure 2: The Book of Secrets.

I have to admit I forgot about Spider-Man. I'm revising my prediction: I think Spidey will be #2.

Simpsons - should be big, but getting all their couch potato fans off the couch? Might be a toughie. I thought the trailer that was attached to "Museum" was hilarious, but people here barely chuckled at it.

I'm not sure what to think about Shrek 3. I think it'll be big, but it might get drowned in the May madness, and the trailers I've seen are not really ... very good.

Whatever happens, I think we're in for a very good summer overall.

The Simpsons movie is sixteen years too late.

Had it been released at the height of the show's popularity it would have been one of the highest grossing moviers of all time, IMO.

My picks (not in any particular order):

Pirates 3
Shrek 3
Spider-Man 3

Is your release schedule as hectic as the UK then? The summer sees a probable blockbuster open every two to three weeks.

Apparently it's even worse here. The month of May alone has three potential blockbusters (Shrek, Pirates, Spidey) and a lot of other decent players. As usual, August gets short shrift.

THe only movie I see doing well in August is Rush Hour 3, and that's still debatable.

I think everybody is missing "Transformers" on the top grosser list. It's really hard to figure out the top from the rest of the list. Harry Potter will do well but won't do over $300 million. The three thirds you would think will all do over $300 million but having them all released in the same month will probably hurt.

I disagree about the Transformers being a huge blockbuster. It will not appeal to a large variety of people. I don't see women or families being interested.

No one mentioned Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer. That should do well but I think Spider-man will be #1

For us The Simpsons and Transformers will most likely gross just as much as Shrek 3 or Harry Potter since we are located in a college town.
