On Monday, I noticed that the security procedures at the cinema had been stepped up. If you were carrying a bag or wearing a heavy coat that could conceal something, the staff had to check you weren't carrying anything prohibited before going into the auditorium.

I was told it was mainly for security reasons, probably in the wake of the Glasgow Airport attack and the foiled car-bomb attempt in London. It's also an anti-piracy measure; with so many popular movies coming out this summer (Shrek 3, Harry Potter, Die Hard etc.) they have to check you're not taking a video camera into the auditorium.

Has security been stepped up at your local cinema? Are there any more anti-piracy measures such as PirateEye installed now?

Our sites including the one I work at were the nearest two cinemas to the car bomb. Can't comment on our security other than to say we're always vigilant whatever the 'threat level' and everyone should feel safe going to any cinema in the West End. The best way to beat the terrorists is to carry on as normal and not let our way of life be affected by their actions. As for piracy, we have that pretty well covered. The technological solutions seem expensive and aren't needed if proper screen checks are carried out. The problem may come if or when high quality cameras get small enough to hide in a jacket and the LCD displays become less obvious. I've kicked people out for recording scenes on to phones because the light is so bright in the screen.
