Is it true that there is no 35mm print of "Cinema Paradiso" left in the whole wide world? Oh my, i hope not.

Yes it's true.

In the entire world (and several of our closest galaxies) there are no 35mm prints. I know this for I take inventories on this particular title and the entire filmworld reports to me on a daily basis.

The last print is now landfill in my backyard. It took me a few years to track 'em all down but FINALLY my evil plan is now complete.

Oh, and Happy New Year to you too. (When can we stop saying this? Is there a cut-off date where it just seems TOO rediculous? Is May 27th too soon?)

We played it about a year ago... so Canada has a print. It was mono though..

Well on the greetings theme my wife was nearly yelling at me that the xmas decorations has to come down by the 12th day after christmas day or we get terrible luck. After January no more N Y greetings to me.

A lot of traditional people say you should keep them up for the entire 12 days of Christmas; you should tell her that. Though that, too, has passed by now.

I recently ran a very good condition 35mm print here. Strangely, most of the movie has a single line mono soundtrack, but partway into the credits it becomes a stereo SR track.

As it had an SR soundtrack, it obviously wasn't an original release print though it may have been a reprinting of the original plus SR.

Probably the 2002 version - it felt like polyester stock. I didnt know it was a recut version though. The SR track was only present during the credits. The rest of the prints had a monaural track.

I wonder if the popularity of the film as the closing performance of many (now ex) cinemas has added to the lack of prints?

In the US market when the film opened back in 1990 it opened with 39 prints. For the 2002 Director's Cut reissue Miramax opened with 15 prints. So their was never that many prints of the film to begin with.
