For our weekly box office report to the studio, I basically take our daily reports (including every show breakdown) and bundle them with a cover sheet that tallies the dailies.

Or, should I just be noting the per-type ticket runs for each day, without dealing with the per-show breakdown. This would save some time, as I wouldn't necessarily have to transcribe each show's breakdown.

Note that I have a manual process for doing this, until I can get a POS system in place. I'm not very happy with the packages available. Though RTS looks marginally acceptable, its $1000 annual penalty for not using their CC processor is a bit steep.

We use RTS. It doesn't give a show-by-show breakdown, it just does the total for each day by ticket type. I've never heard a gripe from the studios about this, so I would say your procedure is fine. Bottom line, if they're not complaining, just keep doing what you're doing. If they don't like something, you'll hear about it.

For credit cards -- RTS's "penalty" is only if you use another CC server through their ticketing system. But you don't need to run the CC validations thru your ticket computer if you don't want to; you could just get a regular terminal and do it like any other merchant does, and own your terminal outright. That wouldn't be nearly as fast as RTS's system though.

I just do daily totals, not show by show. I've never had a distrib ask for a show by show breakdown.
