Not sure what room to put this in.
Is it right that spy kids 4 is in 4D? Can anyone tell me if this is a gimmick or something. I say as i got a quick glimpse on kids TV channel before i turned over (as one does when the 3yr old likes to think he commands the remote control again).
I saw a picture of kids in a theatre with 3D glasses on holding some box under it suggesting its a scratch and sniff thing. Maybe its with your nose.
Has this film been released in the USA yet as i am quite interested in the take up for it if any?

It's a 3D movie and customers get a scratch-and-sniff card along with their ticket. (It will also be available as a 2D, also with the scratch-and-sniff card.)

The North American release date is August 19. The one-sheet I have up for it says that it's in "4D Aroma-Scope".

It's 3D AND smell-o-vision. That's a DOUBLE gimmick!

Here's what you chould do. Before you go to the therter, have a few drinks and lots of beens. Every time there is a cue to scratch and smiff, let those beens do their thing. FUN!

I guess the reference is to Farts. Can you throw somebody out for excessive farting? About 15 years ago we had a woman out complaining about another patrons emissions and wanted him to be ejected, we declined to do so and suggested she take another seat further away from the alleged offender.

Some years ago the junk/novelty shop that used to be across the street from my theatre was selling something called a "Fart Bag" -- a plastic bag filled with aromatic air.

One day some kids apparently smuggled a bunch of those things in and set them off during the show. The smell was something out of this world.

After that I talked to the owner of that shop and asked him to please not sell those things close to my showtime. Never had any more problem with that, so it apparently worked.

If 3D isn't considered a gimmick, then this should not be considered a gimmick, either. It is every bit as legitimate a form of cinema as 3D is.

Not really because this thing requires that you carry a little card, keep track of the card, refer to the card multiple times during the movie and scratch the card in the proper spot. Whereas 3D only requires that you put on the glasses and watch.

It's ridiculous though. What's next....Itch-o-vision, where they hand you a card telling you where to scratch yourself? Rain-o-vision, where we activate the emergency sprinkler system whenever there is a rainstorm onscreen?

If Robert Rodriguez was a proper director instead of this nonsense we would have a release date for Sin City 2.

You can still find these here in San Francisco's Chinatown.

I think they contain two chemicals in a glass vial, that when
broken, combine to produce a small amount of hydrogen sulfide
& ammonia gas.

Someone set a couple of them off on the bus I was riding home
on one night last year. Phew! They do smell really bad!

Yah, but if it's a 4D movie when they add the Stink-O-Vision, then when they release it in 2D, Stink-O-Vision, by my count, still makes it a 3D movie.

Any one remember Polyester the movie in 1981 in Odorama? They gave out scratch an sniff cards and when a number on the screen came up you scratch it off. #2 smelt like #2.

3D stands for 3 Spacial Dimensions. Smell is not a spacial dimension. The 4th dimension is time, as anyone who watched The Twilight Zone or The Time Machines knows. Therefore, every movie is at least 3D (3 dimensions: height, width, time), and movies with depth are actually 4D.

Time may be the 4th dimension, but when treated as such it's the 4th dimension of a non-Euclidean geometry. So you can't really say "length, width, and time" comes to 3 dimensions... [Smile]
