Ituna Theatre faced a big problem earlier this year. 20th Century Fox had earlier announced it was switching from the traditional 35 mm film to the newer digital media. The dilemma for Ituna Theatre was that its old film project (sic), the 35 mm variety, had to be replaced to accommodate the digital film.
The Ituna News tells readers independent theatres like the one in Ituna are at a disadvantage compared to larger theatres that are part of a chain because they are able to get volume discounts. Well, the Carrier family, Ituna Theatre's owners, faced a big problem but decided to keep the historic theatre open.
Built in 1946 this classic building will see the latest digital technology installed by next month. Guy and Doreen Carrier say the decision to proceed with digital was made easier because the building is in such good shape.
The building won't just show movies, however. The Carriers hope to hold concerts and even are thinking about other events like a Grey Cup Party in November.
