Are we talking about the old manual push button ticket machine; as in thread up, push button, ticket pops out?

I never knew they made electric powered versions, until I looked in the warehouse section; all the cinema I have seen them installed in and still working in the UK are manual mechanical ones - push down a large lever and clunk click - ticket pops up!

Having just Googled, I've found five suppliers in the US alone that still sell ticket stock for them. This suggests that there must be a fair few still in regular use.

Still using the Automaticket at my theatre. I get tickets from Premier printing in Cincinnati. There is just something special about the sound of the ticket rolling out of that thing!

I showed some of my staff a picture of an Automaticket machine recently. They laughed at its quaintness.

If you don't offer individual seat reservations, the Automaticket concept still works perfectly well, as far as I can see. If you take an online or phone booking for a specific show, then once the card payment is confirmed, just punch out the Automatickets and put them to one side in an envelope for collection by the customer on arrival.

I suppose it doesn't offer the seriously snazzy option of enabling the customer to wave a QR code on their smartphone at the usher to scan upon entering the auditorium, but that would forego the attraction of a proper, paper ticket - especially a customized one, with the theater's name or logo on it.
