Carmike Story

To long to paste, maybe too long to read, but an interesting business look at Carmike buying Digiplex. The video interview is interesting if you enjoy corporate speak.

So, has the new management saved Carmike, or is this just the latest way for them to go bankrupt again?

And, there is really a publication calle "Opportunist Magazine"?

Their old Theater here on Overland Ave. still sits vacant for years. Was supposed to be turned into an office complex. Too Bad someone else like Wynnsong didn't move in. Beautiful Building and Big Parking Lot but the Street it's on wasn't the greatest Choice for access like Wynnsong 10 which is behind a K-Mart and next to a Major Mall...

Good for Mayo. Mayo was smart, his ticket prices are not cheap and he tapped into the higher price tier with 3D, Dbox and IMAX.

Uhh, the Shilo 14 is also Carmike. All of the theaters in Billings are Carmikes.

I know they don't own ALBERTA BAIR or BABCOCK Theaters...

That makes Sense build a 14 theater Multiplex out in the Sticks.
They do have nice Stadium Seating in the ones I was in...

That area where the Shiloh 14 is won't be "the sticks" for very long...lots of development out there including that new Scheels store. They were smart to build where they did.

Actually Mike Both Babcock and AB Have Projection Equipment.
The Scheels Store is going to install a Big Ferris Wheel inside among other attractions. There looking for a FW Operator;put in an application it will be a change of pace for you. [Wink]

Wasn't the Babcock in Billings an old T.O.I. (Theatre Operators Inc) location where Verl Clark of Clark Film Buying was manager back in the early 80's?

I was an old TOI employee back in 1984 in E. Idaho - what a crazy company they were .. but, this is where I met Tim Warner, now one of the top brass for Cinemark.

Monte - yep, that's right about the Babcock. It and the Alberta Bair are both performing-arts theaters now but as Steve said, they still have projectors although they almost never get used.

With Carmike buying Digiplex, Carmike how has cinemas in the NYC area as well as 8 out of 10 largest USA metropolitan areas. If they ever do come up to Canada, they will be crushed by Cineplex, Guzzo and Landmark.
