We just got our weekly trailer drives, and Deluxe's came in a Technicolor box. The Technicolor trailers came in their own box like usual. We also got next week's movie, from Deluxe in a regular Deluxe box. All delivered by Fed Ex. The trailer drives have UPS return labels but the movie drive has to go Fed Ex.

So if Tech is doing the trailers for Deluxe, why the F don't they just put all the trailers on one drive or at least ship the two drives in one box?

Since they've consolidated their promotional materials distribution, it makes sense.

Along with technicolor dropping 35mm distribution, the digital distribution of deluxe and technicolor are being merged into one.

Does this mean Technicolor will start using the DCDC satellite system?

You now order your materials from Vision Media, which handles Deluxe and Tech. They still ask for your Tech/Deluxe ID# when you call. I suspect they will be one happy computer standardized family within a year.

Yeah, because the integration of two ERP systems of two entirely different companies is known for it's many success stories. (Though most success stories come from the likes of Oracle and SAP and the lawyers that those processes usually involve. [Wink] )

But they'll be using two system until the end of times, or until the studios figure out those labs could largely be replaced by something like a web server, whatever comes first...

I just received email from Deluxe stating that as of June 19 there will just be one "TrailMix by Deluxe, where all studios will be serviced on one drive".

To make it complete, they should change their name to National Screen Service.

I called Deluxe today and the operator answered Deluxe-Technicolor. When I inquired about this she said each company is still handling it's same business for now. If someone needed Technicolor, she would just transfer them to Technicolor. She didn't have any information about when the systems would be integrated.

Is Tech's number still 1-80099FILMS, or did that go by the wayside with this merger?

Posted by Matt Johnston (Member # 5457) on 07-02-2015, 03:32 PM:

The Technicolor number still works fine for me and they were able to assist with getting me a replacement drive earlier in the week.

For a trailer hard drive they made me call Deluxe though.

The keys we get some are still technicolor and some deluxe.

This is one aspect of the pending merger (?) that I don't mind at all. All the trailers in one place simplifies things.

Today we received a trailer box from Technicolor/Deluxe - with TWO trailer drives in it...

They've figured out the merge part of the bidness, now they just need to figure out how to make proper trailers!

Ghod, after all those years of competition...

Is it just me, or does Deluxe have the worst phones in the world?

Whenever I call Tech, nice clear connection. All calls to Deluxe the connection sounds like something they bought out of the back of someone's car in the 80's.

I sure hope the final merger improves Deluxe's phones rather than degrading Technicolor's.

Posted by Mike Blakesley (Member # 26) on 07-26-2015, 01:56 PM:

I'm sure they'll go with whichever phone system is the cheapest.

Has anybody started receiving their drives in smaller white cardboard boxes? I like them!

Posted by Martin McCaffery (Member # 37) on 08-26-2015, 09:22 AM:

If today's experience with technicolor is an indication, they now have worse phones than deluxe.
I called about a delivery. Worked through the phone tree. When I got to someone there was so much static I had to just hang up and call back. Called back, static not quite as bad, but it sounded like the person on the other end was taking a shower during a rainstorm in a stall with a tin roof.
Could this be their way of saying "Don't bug us"?

WTF has happened to the Technicolor "EZ Return" labels? Used to be, you could just zip off the bottom strip with a fingernail, then peel off the original label easily in one piece.

On the last few, the original label is getting harder and harder to remove, with today's being impossible to get through the zip strip in one piece, and the top label being glued down to the point I had to scrape it off in about 10 tiny pieces. What did they do, go to a cheaper label vendor?

COME ON, satellite delivery!

Posted by Martin McCaffery (Member # 37) on 06-01-2016, 03:20 PM:

More than once I have had to call for new labels because of the damn "Easy" label shredding the on underneath.

And here I thought it was just me! I have had several instances lately where I almost scraped off both stickers. In some cases I only managed to get the bar code uncovered, figuring that would be sufficient, only to find the cases still sitting on the floor. Then, of course, would come the e-mails asking why we didn't send the darn things back.

I happened to be around when the UPS person came by one day recently when I had about four cases ready to go out. He took a look at them and asked where he was supposed to send them; I didn't have the return address showing on the top of all of them. Apparently the bar code is not enough, he needed the return shipping address visible. One of the cases did have the address where it was legible, so I asked him to send them all to the same place.

So, yeah, that E-Z Return label is anything but. They should just go back to putting the outgoing labels in the case like they used to. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (or, in this case, make it worse).

Posted by Martin McCaffery (Member # 37) on 06-01-2016, 05:56 PM:

Why is it when they send something Fed-Ex they put the return label in the case? Are the E-Z labels UPS product, or is it something DeluxTech are inflicting on use by themselves?

I didn't mind them when they worked. When they work properly it's a pretty good system. But now, it's useless.

Martin - I'm sure the reason they use them is, it cuts down one step in prepping a box for shipping.

Oops sorry, I misread the question! I would bet though, it is a "collaboration" between UPS and Deluxe/TES.

Same problem here. They'd been much better, as of the past few months, but several have been tough to separate and I managed to shred my first one this week.

I'm also getting more of the boxes without the zip-ties for returns. I don't want to send them out unsecured, but it's tempting.

I thought it was just you too. [Roll Eyes]

But seriously- - I was called in to help ship back a bunch of
drives that hadn't been sent out before the person who was
supposed to do it went on vacation last week.

I too have noticed that those "EZ-Return" labels have have been
anything but easy to peel off lately.

I had about a dozen of them to deal with today and I'd say
on 3/4 of them I had to use very sharp tool knife to get the
front label off after the 'pull tab' didn't do it's job.

I'm just glad they are finally offering a monthly trailmix instead of the blasted weekly one.

I've already called up Deluxe to just put me on monthly ...

This thread is one of the many positive things about the Film-Tech forums.

I'm going to call to inquire about the monthly drives.

Hopefully the person who saved Technicolor all that money by switching to the cheap "EZ PEEL" labels has been dealt with. I will be mentioning those labels when I call them.

I just use a piece of clear package tape across the flap. I hope it's annoying to open.

I e-mailed them back and they switched all three of my sites 10 minutes later.

They have an incentive to act since it will save them money for freight, labour and drive duplication.

E-mail went out today about the labels:

Deluxe Technicolor’s New EZ Return Label

We would like to thank everyone for their feedback we have received regarding our EZ return labels. Starting this week, your hard drive shipments will arrive with our new design that we have been testing. This label is designed with less adhesive, so it easier to remove the shipping label to reveal the return EZ label.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions or concerns, Returns@bydeluxe.com or 800-993-4567/877-272-3870

Thank you

Thank Heaven!; and Thank You Benjamin for the update.
I have been putting nasty notes in with my returns for the past several
months. Yesterday I had to return a wholebuncha preview drives that
were sitting around here and and I'd say the "no peel" average was
3 out of 5. And those I was able to peel off required great care.
I was about one more day away from writing them a really bitchy
e-mail (with pictures) but I'll hold off & see how the new labels work.

I am thankful to have DCDC and only have to deal with their NoPeel designs when we are running screenings

Posted by Mike Blakesley (Member # 26) on 11-15-2016, 02:37 AM:

From personal experience, I can report that the new labels are a BIG improvement. There is no stupid tear-out strip anymore; and the under-label is much smaller than the top label. You just peel off the top label from any bottom corner and the other label is left intact. No muss, no fuss.
