I heard that there was a seriously heavy duty security presence at the LA premiere, press screenings and opening weekend, but that in the event there was no significant trouble.

Very glad that we didn't play it anyways. My last job before leaving England was in a university at which the girlfriend of a royal was studying. While she was there they had to have security guards checking staff and student IDs all over the campus, which was both intrusive and time-consuming.

I was a little nervous about playing Compton, just because of the possibility of problems. Other than the typical issues of kids trying to get into an R rated movie, we didn't really have any. The only issue we did have was an obnoxious guy being loud and then talking down to a woman who brought her kids to the movie.

More than anything, I was surprised at the broad appeal of the movie. It pretty much crossed over to all demographics, other than senior citizens.

Regal has implemented a bag/purse check for weapons... 100% no exceptions. Bag looked into or you get turned away for a refund. Not necessarily for this movie but in light of all the recent violence

This sort of "security" is just awful and I hope that it dies a quick death as customers go elsewhere.

On a practical level, it is pretty much ineffective. On an emotional level, does the exhibition industry (which is--or should be--largely in the business of making people happy) really want to associate itself with the TSA (which seems to be largely in the business of making air travel unpleasant)? People will just stay home (or find some other use for their leisure time) if this becomes a common thing.

Bag checks are silly. Disney World does them. They have a kindly smiling "security guard" open each purse and poke around with a stick for a second. As if anyone sneaking in a gun, grenade or whatever would hide it in a purse. Meanwhile you could walk through the "no bags" line with several guns tucked in your belt under a baggy shirt and nobody would even notice.

Straight outta ... Crawley ?!

It would seem that the first time there was any actual (as distinct from feared) trouble associated with this movie, it involved white people in a wealthy London suburb!

A man had acid thrown over him outside a cinema after a row while watching the film Straight Outta Compton.

The 27-year-old has been left with what police described as "potentially life-changing" injuries in the attack following a screening of the hip-hop biopic.

He is believed to have been targeted by two men outside the Cineworld cinema in the car park in Crawley, West Sussex.

The victim, from Redhill, in Surrey, was taken to East Surrey Hospital for treatment to injuries from the corrosive liquid.

He was later transferred to the Queen Victoria Hospital, in East Grinstead, for specialist care.

A Sussex Police spokesman: "It is thought the incident may have started when the victim and another man, 29, also from Redhill, were watching Straight Outta Compton in the cinema."

Detective Sergeant Laura Diamond, of Crawley CID, said: "This was an isolated, but nevertheless nasty and unprovoked assault."

The movie tells the story of the rise and fall of the hip-hop group NWA from Compton, a deprived neighbourhood of Los Angeles.

The suspected assailants are two white men in their late 20s or early 30s. One had dark short hair and beard and was wearing a bag across his shoulder.

The other was wearing a white or light grey hooded top and jeans. Both were in a dark-coloured Peugeot car.

Police said the attack happened between 1am and 1.30am on Sunday.
