I'm assuming this is intended not a by-product of whatever projection system Carmike uses.

Just saw The Big Short (third times a charm). Good digital projection. It was shot on film. It was also very "grainy," but not like 35mm film. The grain appeared static, and looking at the picture was something like looking at the focus mirror in an SLR film camera or a fine grain version of Pixelvision.

Anyone know if they digitally enhanced the grain on this and why? There are a few shots where they want you see the blown up grain, but it didn't make it look any more film like as a whole.

Good fun movie, otherwise. Though waiting for Bale to say "I am Batman" from the beginning;>

Mission Impossible Rogue Nation had this same thing, and both are Paramount, so maybe it's just the way Paramount wants the shot-on-film movies to look?

Clearly an intentional effect. I'm watching CBGB on Netflix and it alternates back and forth between shots with an extreme version of the same effect. I'm sure it means something to someone.

And CBGB is as bad as the reviews.
