I was making a bunch of popcorn this morning for a wedding and my wife said, "Why don't we advertise that we make popcorn for parties?"

Good point. People just phone once in a while and ask if we can do it for their party, but I've never advertised it.

So I took a picture of today's popcorn and added a new page to my website:

Party Popcorn

Somehow it just never occurred to me to advertise that before.

Could turn out successful for other events also, not just for parties.

If can, offer flavored popcorn also along with caramel corn.

Be a mini popcorn factory of sorts.

I just looked it up and at today's exchange rate $50 Canadian including taxes works out almost exactly to US$35 plus the federal and provincial tax.

I don't think I'm overcharging for it; at least, nobody has ever complained about the price.

We have a pretty good crowd of "regulars" who come in and buy popcorn to take home. We've never advertised a big bag like that though. I think it would take a helluva party to go through that much corn!

I still think you need to advertise it a bit, because who's going to know you're selling "Party Popcorn"? Have you sold some yet?

Some guy around here started selling "cinema popcorn", nachos and accompanying condiments for a living. His primary targets used to be parties, but now he's also supplying convenience and grocery stores with the stuff. He's since become the exclusive reseller for PCO-Group (one of the bigger names in Europe for cinema concessions and consumables) for anything not cinema related in a few countries. I'm pretty sure he's making a decent living on it.

I've been selling popcorn in that big bag ever since I opened my theatre, but just on request when someone asks if they can buy it for their dance or whatever. I just keep a box of those bags around for the odd occasion when someone wants to buy one. Which isn't too often; maybe once or twice a year for someone's picnic or barbecue or "turkey feast". I used to make popcorn for a couple of dances pretty much every Christmas but that sort of went away a few years ago.

For whatever reason, it never occurred to me to advertise it until I was making popcorn for that wedding yesterday. And that just came up because the bride's mother phoned me to ask if they can get popcorn from me. But to this point I've never actually told anyone that it's available unless they specifically ask about it.

I just put that new page on my website and added a note to the weekly email that I send to customers who sign up for that, so it will be interesting to see if the interest picks up.
