This Thursday Sept 20 2018 will be the grand re opening of the former long closed Century Victorian Theatre in Sparks NV near Reno. Now run by Galaxy Theatres along with their other spot in Sparks The Legends Theatre. This remodeled large cinema has been fixed up with new large screens, new seats,rugs and Dolby Atmos®sound plus a large DFX curved screen. Galaxy Legends IMAX a few miles away will be Cinemas #1-#12 the new re opened Galaxy Victorian will have cinemas #14-#26. No #13? I guess it got lost in between? Thanks to Frank and his Galaxy staff for finally re opening this long vacant refreshed Galaxy Victorian Theatre. Now Galaxy can program all kinds of films for the ever growing Sparks Nevada area, both art type, movie festivals plus regular movies for their new movie theatre venture. The new neon marquee for the Galaxy Victorian looks great. Good luck to Ken also at the Legends who comes out to introduce each film before It starts.

I guess I've never paid any attention in the large multiplexes I've been in, but superstitious people think 13 is an unlucky number and would avoid being in that auditorium for that reason.

This is also why you often never see a 13th floor in skyscrapers -- they just go from 12 to 14. Even though the one above 12 really IS the thirteenth.

Mike what Galaxy needs to do in Sparks NV a city near Reno Nevada is put in that missing Cinema #13 between their other two theatres call it 'Galaxy Cinema Lucky 13' and show horror, hell, Grindhouse, supernatural or superstition movies for the down and out gamblers in the Sparks area. Put in plenty of creepy black light art on the cinema walls and a few live old fortune tellers in the lobby plus a few classic slot machines next to the pop corn machine. Make this Cinema #13 a tourist destination in the Reno area.

I've seen high rise buildings that don't have a 13th floor (the buttons on the elevator skip from 12 to 14), and an airport that didn't have a gate 13, too.

Ironically, one hotel I stayed at that was missing a 13th floor had the street number 666.

I don't know why anyone caters to this ridiculousness and stupidity. The funny thing is in many modern skyscrapers, they want to make the building seem taller, so they also "skip" other floors. I've been in buildings where floors 2-5 are skipped which means that the 18th floor is really the 13th floor. People really are stupid.

The Japanese have a thing about the number "4". Do Japanese buildings skip the 4th floor? (I've never been there).

Trump has a bit of history with this sort of thing. Apparently Trump World Tower in Manhattan has a 90th floor, despite it being only 72 stories high.

you mean the 14th!

san francisco has avenues in the richmond and sunset districts numbered 2-48, except for 13, which is funston ave. (instead of first there is arguello blvd, and instead of 49th there is la playa st--there are no 49ers in san francisco!)

there is a 13th st, but it runs under a freeway and has encampments but no addresses.

saints peter and paul church is located at 666 filbert st.

The lack of an Auditorium 13 is a brilliant tip of the hat to the many superstitions every Nevada casino hotel avoids, and is just one example of little touches casinos and hotels do to aleve superstitions for their guests, especially international guests. Someone at Galaxy probably thought it was funny and clever, and they're totally right.

I wonder if there are any other superstition or even 'good luck' Easter eggs in the building.

That's fantastic Frank, just a small "storefront" theatre #13. "World's Unluckiest Theatre - Reno NV" Could really play it up, maybe just do it around this time for Hallowe'en.....show some horror, but maybe also some "spooky family" stuff for the kids, it'd be a lot of fun.

Wish we hadn't gone down the road of encryption that we did, at least insofar as they require the big massive permanent projectors that would preclude fun little setups like this.

Regarding Japan, yes most buildings there do not have 4th floors. Also, many product names or model numbers avoid using the number 4. Remember digital video tape formats? There was D1, D2, D3, and D5 but no D4.

The reason is the number 4 is pronounced "shi", which is also the pronunciation for "death." Very very bad juju...

Also, hospitals don't have 9th floors, again because the pronunciation for 9 is "ku", the same as "pain."

Not Japan related, but notice that most airlines do not have a row 13 in their seat numbering schemes.
