Here's to the memory
Of the man
That raised the corn
That fed the goose
That bore the quill
That made the pen
That wrote the Declaration of Independence

It is my loving sentiment, and by the blessing of God it shall be my dying sentiment - Independence now and Independence forever!

I used to know a clever toast
But pshaw! I cannot think it-
So fill your glass to anything
and, bless your souls, I'll drink it.

Drink to the girls and drink to their mothers,
Drink to their father and to their brothers;
Toast their dear healths as long as your able,
And dream of their charms while your under the table.

"Here's to champagne, the drink devine,
That makes us forget our troubles;
It's made of a dollar's worth of wine
and three dollar's worth of bubbles."*

* This is the original version of the toast, at least nine decades old; so you may have to inflate the dollar amount to up date it.

I just received a copy of the toast supposedly made by General Louis Wilson, Congressional Medal of Honor winner and former Commandant of the Marine Corps at the Marine Corps Birthday celebration a few years ago.

I thought you all would appreciate the sentiment in it. Booty, your son the former Marine,would understand this and perhaps could use it in one of his sermons on "Love". Semper Fidelis

TO LOVE:

"THE WONDERFUL LOVE OF A BEAUTIFUL MAID,
THE LOVE OF A STAUNCH, TRUE MAN,
THE LOVE OF A BABY, UNAFRAID,
HAVE EXISTED SINCE TIME BEGAN.

BUT THE GREATEST OF LOVES,
THE QUINTESSENCE OF LOVES,
EVEN GREATER THAN THAT OF A MOTHER,

IS THE TENDER, PASSIONATE, INFINITE LOVE, OF ONE DRUNKEN MARINE FOR ANOTHER."

Irish Drinking Toasts

May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven
half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

Here's to me, and here's to you,
And here's to love and laughter-
I'll be true as long as you,
And not one moment after.

Here's to you and yours
And to mine and ours.
And if mine and ours
Ever come across to you and yours,
I hope you and yours will do
As much for mine and ours
As mine and ours have done
For you and yours!

Health and life to you;
The mate of your choice to you;
Land without rent to you,
And death in Eirinn.

Here's a toast to your enemies' enemies!

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

Here's to a long life and a merry one.
A quick death and an easy one.
A pretty girl and an honest one.
A cold beer—and another one!

Here's to our wives and girlfriends:
May they never meet! [Big Grin]

Here's wishing you the top o' life without a single tumble. Here's wishing you the smiles o' life and not a single grumble. Here's wishing you the best o' life and not a claw about it. Here's wishing you the joy in life and not a day without it. --

An Irish Blessing

May your neighbors respect you, Your trouble neglect you, The angels protect you, And heaven accept you.

May the Irish hills caress you. May her lakes and rivers bless you. May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.

Here’s to you and yours, And to mine and ours, And if mine and ours ever come Across you and yours, I hope you and yours will do As much for mine and ours, As mine and ours have done For you and yours.

Happy St. Patrick's Day Best Of Luck To You And Yours [/b]
