GHOST RIDERS IN THE SKY
An old cowpoke went ridin' out one dark and windy day.
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way.
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw,
A-plowin' through the ragged sky and up a cloudy draw.
Yippee-yi-ay! Yippee-yi-oh!
Ghost riders in the sky.
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel.
Their horns were black and shiny, and their hot breath he could feel.
A bolt of fear shot through him as they thundered through the sky,For he saw the riders comin' hard, and he heard their mournful cry:
Yippee-yi-ay! Yippee-yi-oh!
Ghost riders in the sky.
Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat.
They're riding hard to catch that herd, but they ain't caught 'em yet.
'Cause they've got to ride forever in that range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire. As they ride on, hear them cry:
Yippee-yi-ay! Yippee-yi-oh!
Ghost riders in the sky.
As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name.
"If you want to save your soul from Hell, a-riding on our range,
Then, cowboy, change your ways today, or with us you will ride,
Trying to catch the Devil's herd, across these endless skies."
Yippee-yi-ay! Yippee-yi-oh!
Ghost riders in the sky ...
Ghost riders in the sky!

The 1942 Academy Award for Best Actor went to James Cagney for his portrayal of George M. Cohan in MGM's "Yankee Doodle Dandy"
Geoge M. Cohan received the Congressional Medal of Honor from President Franklin D. Roosevelt for his songs "Over There" and "It's A Grand Old Flag". Roosevelt remarked that Over There was just as powerful a weapon as any gun or bomb that was used in World War I and continues to be a powerful weapon in World war Two.

Over There....George M. Cohan
Verse One:
Johnny get your gun, get your gun, get your gun
Take it on the run, on the run, on the run,
Hear them calling, you and me
Every son of liberty,
Hurry right away, no delay, go today,
Make your Daddy glad, to have had such a lad,
Tell your sweetheart not to pine
She'll be proud her boys in line
Chorus
Over There, Over There, Over There
Send the word, send the word Over There
That the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming,
The drum drum druming everywhere
So Prepare, say a prayer,
Send the word, send the word, to beware,
We'll be over, were coming over,
and we won't come back til it's over, over there
Repeat Chorus
Verse Two:
Johnny get your gun, get you gun, get your gun
Tell it to the Hun, your a son of a gun
Hoist your Flag and let her fly
Yankee Doodle, Do or Die
Pack your little kit, show your grit, do your bit.
Yankees from the ranks to the towns and the tanks
Make your Mother, proud of you and
The old Red, White and Blue
Chorus
Over There, Over There, Over There
Send the word, send the word Over There
That the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming,
The drum drum druming everywhere
So Prepare, say a prayer,
Send the word, send the word, to beware,
We'll be over, were coming over,
and we won't come back til it's over, over there

Ed in Boston
Everybody knows about those no good punks that wander the streets.
This song was written by a group of punks from Boston The Dropkick Murphys, I think these no good punks have a better hear than half of Hollywood as to what are troops going through just look at these lyrics.
Far Away Coast
Here in the trenches the fist of the Beast For fear of an atmosphere poisened deceased With a gas mask to keep me-from breathing my death It's American soil I hope for at best. But the duty I serve can't begin to compare To my ancestors battles and wars throught the years, Though the loneliness strikes like an enemy shell I pray for my home but still sit here in hell
chorus: Sail away to a place that's unkown taken away from my friends and my home to a place they call sacred a place I call hell, I long for that corner I once knew so well
Go to the grind it's all that I have Work on and on with nothing to show But a graying face in this dying place Thats a lock in my solitude I think of a place on a faraway coast Where friends are dear and there's reason to toast A cloudy dark images of a Middle East land Comes down and wrecks my hopeful land
chorus: Sail away to a place that's unkown taken away from my friends and my home to a place they call sacred a place I call hell I long for that corner I once knew so well

There are recent rumors that Julie Andrews did a concert for AARP.
Ms.Andrews sang a favorite from the Sound of Music, Favorite Things. There were a few changes to the words, to fit in with the AARP theme.
Here are the new words to this tune:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Cadillacs and cataracts and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets, and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heat pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no fear of sinnin,
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinin,
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.
When the joints ache, when the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
I hope your life is great and you are doing wonderful things.

American Folk Song
Red River Valley
Traditional Verses
1.
From this valley they say you are going
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brighten our pathways awhile
2.
Come and sit by my side if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
Just remember the Red River Valley
And the one who has loved you so true
3.
I've been thinking a long time, my darling
Of the sweet words I never could say
Now, alas, I may speak or keep silent
It won't keep you from going away
4.
So remember the Red River Valley
Remember the breeze in your hair
How we sat on the banks in the moonlight
How it seemed we would always be here.
American folk song that emanated out of North Dakota's Red River Valley that was considered the birth canal for people working their way to the West and northwest as our country moved in that direction in the 19th Century.

God Bless The U.S.A.
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars
To be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away.
I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say:
I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
And defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

Song Parody
Ballad of the Bobitt Hillbillies
(Sung to the tune of Beverly Hillbillies.)
Come and listen to my story of a man named John
A poor ex-marine with a little fraction gone.
It seems one night after gettin' with the wife
She lopped off his schlong with the swipe of a knife.
(Penis, that is)
(Clean cut, missed his nuts)
Well, the next thing you know there's a Ginsu by his side
And Lorena's in the car takin' Willie for a ride.
She soon got tired of her purple-headed friend
And tossed him out the window as she rounded a bend.
(Curve, that is)
(Pricker shrubs, wheel hubs)
She went to the cops and confessed the attack
And they called out the hounds just to get his weenie back.
They sniffed and they barked and they pointed "over there"
To John Wayne's Henry that was waving in the air.
(Found, that is)
(By a fence, Evidence)
Now Peter and John couldn't stay apart too long
So a Dick Doc said, "hey, I can fix your dong!"
"A needle and a thread is all you're gonna need,"
And the whole world waited 'til they heard that Johnny peed.
(Whizzed, that is)
(Even seam, straight stream)
Well, he healed and he hardened and he took his case to court
With a cockeyed lawyer since his assets came up short.
They cleared her of assault and acquitted him of rape
And his pecker was the only thing they didn't show on tape.
(Video, that is) Unexposed, case closed)

MY FAVOURITE THINGS??
Rewritten by: Kronos,on of the Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse
Original Song: My Favourite Things
Thorncuts from roses,
And drowned baby kittens,
Scalding from kettles
Or getting quite bitten.
Long-haired Scottishmen
Strangled with string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Black toasted ponies,
And crisp fried poodle.
Deep wells and death knells
And choking on strudel.
Wild geese that cry
When you tear out their wings,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
Are much more fun after seventy lashes,
Recalling the pleasure torturing brings
These are a few of my favourite things.
When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
This all makes me glad.
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I feel really bad!
(With apologies to Rogers & Hammerstein)
Kronos says: "Ever since I heard that mad nun (a woman in severe need of a good strangulation if ever I saw one!) wailing away to those dear sweet brats, I knew this was the song for me. I had to
alter it a little, but now it just gives me a warm feeling inside whenever I hear it..."

A GOVERNMENT GIRL
I thought I'd be a G-girl
and have a little fun
They took my application
and made me GS-1
I wore a naughty little blouse
that you could see right through
My boss took one look at it
and made me GS-2
I started some dictation
with my dress above my knee
When I got through with that letter
I became a GS-3
He gave my thigh a little pinch
as he went out the door
I blinked my big blue eyes at him
and got my GS-4
I felt so good one morning
it was so good to be alive
I did a naughty little rhumba
and got my GS-5
My boss asked me to kiss him
so I showed him some new tricks
He must have liked the lesson
'cause I got my GS-6
We went off for the weekend
to his little seashore heaven
I guess I must have pleased him
'cause I got my GS-7
My work must be improving
I got my GS-8
But I don't know if it's worth it
My God I'm three weeks late!

Classic Love Song
I wonder who's kissing her now
----------------------------------
I wonder who's kissing her now
I wonder who's teaching her how
I wonder who's looking into her eyes
Breathing sighs, telling lies
I wonder who's buying the wine
For lips that I use to call mine
I wonder if she ever tells him of me
I wonder who's kissing her now.

After the ball is over
After the break of dawn
After the dancers leaving
After the stars are gone
Many a heart is aching
If you could read them all
Many the hopes that have vanished
After the ball

In The Good Old Summertime
Words By: Ben Shields
Music By George Evans
-----------------------------------------------
In the good old summertime
In the good old summertime
Strolling through the shady lanes
With your baby mine
You hold her hand and she hold yours
And that's a very good sign
That she's your tootsie, wootsie
In the good old summertime.

Somebody Stole My Gal
Words and Music By: Leo Wood
------------------------------------------------
Somebody stole my gal
Somebody stole my gal
Somebody came and took her away
She didn't even, say she was leavin'
The kisses I loved so
He's getting now I know
and Gee - I know that she
Would come to me
If she could see
Her broken hearted lonesome pal
Somebody stole my gal

SHE WENT AND LOST IT AT THE ASTOR
The balmy sunset breeze
Brushed the young girl's innocent face
As she shyly bid her parents fond farewell
Her darling mother's tender voice
Whispered anxious last advice
Of the beastly world outside
To her did tell
But she had to go and lose it at the Astor
She didn't take her mother's good advice
Now there aren't so many girls today who have one
And she'd never let it go for any price
They searched the place from penthouse to the cellar
In every room and underneath each bed
Once they thought they saw it lying on a pillow
But they found it belonged to someone else instead
But she had to go and lose it at the Astor
She didn't know exactly who to blame
And she couldn't say just how or when she lost it
She only knew she had it when she came
They questioned all the bellboys and the porter
The chef appeared to be the guilty guy
And the doorman also acted quite suspicious
But he coyly said, I'm sure it wasn't I
But she had to go and lose it at the Astor
It nearly killed her mother and her dad
Now they felt as bad about the thing as she did
After all it was the only one she had
They just about completed all their searching
When the chauffeur walked up with it in his hand
All they did was stand and gape
There was Millie's sable cape
That's a helluva word for .................. at the Astor

This Ragged Flag
I walked through a county courthouse square
On a park bench an old man was sitting there.
I said "Your old courthouse is kinda run down."
He said "Naw, it'll do for our little town."
I said "Your flagpole has leaned a little bit,
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it.
He said, "Have a seat", and I sat down.
"Is this the first time you've been to our little town?"
I said, "I think it is." He said, "I don't like to brag,
But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag.
You see, we got a little hole in that flag there
When Washington took it across the Delaware.
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watching it writing 'Oh Say Can You See'.
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seams.
And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag, but she waved on through.
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill.
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg,
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag.
On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun.
She turned blood red in World War II
She hung limp and low by the time it was through.
She was in Korea and Vietnam.
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam.
She waved from our ships upon the briny foam,
And now they've about quit waving her back here at home.
In her own good land she's been abused ...
She's been burned, dishonored, denied and refused.
And the government for which she stands
Is scandalized throughout the land.
And she's getting thread-bare and wearing thin,
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in.
'Cause she's been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more.
So we raise her up every morning,
Take her down every night.
We don't let her touch the ground
And we fold her up right.
On second thought I DO like to brag,
'Cause I'm mighty proud of that Ragged Old Flag.

Moments To Remember
The New Years's Eve, We did the town
The day we tore the Goal posts down
We will have these moments to remember
The quiet walks, the noisy fun,
The bar room prize, we almost won
We will have these moments, to remember.
Though Summer turns to Winter, and The present disappears,
The laughter we were glad to share, glad to share
will echo through the years.
When other nights, .and other days
may find a star in a separate way
We will have these moments, to Remember

50's Love Song
IF YOU LOVE ME REALLY LOVE ME
Kay Starr
Words by Geoffrey Parsons/Music by Marguerite Monnot
If the sun should tumble from the sky,
if the sea should suddenly run dry
If you love me, really love me,
Let it happen I won't care
If a dream I fear should fall apart
I can still be smiling with my heart
If you love me, really love me,
Let it happen darling I won't care
Shall I catch a shooting star,
Shall I bring it where you are
If you only say you care
I can make a mountain fall
I'll do anything at all
As long as you are there
When at last my life on earth is through,
I will share eternity with you
If you love me, really love me,
Let it happen darling I won't care
REPEAT LAST VERSE
Let it happen darling I won't care

Driver's swear ..... are you listenin',
At the Mall .....folks are gripein',
A miserable sight ..... they're sorry tonite,
Drivin' in New Jersey's TrafficLand!
Gone away ...... are your tires,
meter has ...... just expired,
They towed you away, while you shopped today,
Parkin' in New Jersey's TrafficLand!
On the Parkway we will have a breakdown,
We'll be stuck and threatened on the side,
If we're lucky, someone might come mug us,
And if we plead they may give us a ride!
Santa's sleigh ..... was impounded,
All the Elves ...... were surrounded,
He's now in a cell .... for ringin' his bell,
Living in New Jersey's TrafficLand!

Sung by Dog to Winter Wonderland Tune
Dog tags ring, are you listenin'?
In the lane, snow is glistenin'.
It's yellow, NOT white - I've been there tonight,
Marking up my winter wonderland.
Smell that tree? That's my fragrance.
It's a sign for wand'ring vagrants;
"Avoid where I pee, it's MY pro-per-ty!
Marked up as my winter wonderland."
In the meadow dad will build a snowman,
following the classical design.
Then I'll lift my leg and let it go Man,
So all the world will know it's
mine-mine-mine!
Straight from me to the fencepost,
flows my natural incense boast;
"Stay off of my TURF, this small piece of earth,
I marked it as my winter wonderland.

From Kizmet
Song: Stranger In Paradise Lyrics
She:
Oh why do the leaves
Of the Mulberry tree
Whisper differently now
And why is the nightingale singing
At noon on the Mulberry bow
For some most mysterious reason
This isn't the garden I know
No it's paradise now
That was only a garden
A moment ago
He:
Take my hand
I'm a stranger in paradise
All lost in a wonderland
A stranger in paradise
If I stand starry-eyed
That's a danger in paradise
For mortals who stand beside
An angel like you
I saw your face
And I ascended
Out of the commonplace
Into the rare
Somewhere in space
I hang suspended
Until I know
There's a chance that you care
Won't you answer the fervent prayer
Of a stranger in paradise
Don't send me in dark despair
From all that I hunger for
But open your angel's arms
To the stranger in paradise
And tell him
That he need be
A stranger no more
She:
I saw your face
And I ascended
Out of the commonplace
Into the rare
Both:
Somewhere in space
I hang suspended
She:
Until I know
He:
Till the moment I know
She:
There's a chance that you care
He:
There's a chance that you care
She:
Won't you answer the fervent prayer
Of a stranger in paradise
He:
Don't send me in dark despair
From all that I hunger for
Both:
But open your angel's arms
To the stranger in paradise
And tell me that I may be
A stranger no more.

What Ever Happened to Peace On Earth
by Willie Nelson
There's so many things going on in the world
Babies dying
Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth
We believe everything that they tell us
They're gonna' kill us
So we gotta' kill them first
But I remember a commandment
Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldier's life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
So I guess it's just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Let's just kill em' all and let God sort em' out
Is this what God wants us to do
(Repeat Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
Now you probably won't hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if there's a time, and if you're ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one picker's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth
But don't confuse caring for weakness
You can't put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free
(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Music and Lyrics by Bob Dylan
- Blowing In The Wind Lyrics -
How many roads must a man walk down,
before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove fly,
before she sleeps in the sand?
And how many times must a cannon ball fly,
before they're forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
How many years can a mountain exist,
before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist,
before they're allowed to be free?
And how many times can a man turn his head,
and pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
How many times must a man look up,
before he sees the sky?
And how many ears must one man have,
before he can hear people cry ?
And how many deaths will it take till we know,
that too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one
When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

WILLIE McBRIDE
It is one of the most hauntingly beautiful anti war songs of all time. The Green Fields Of France was written by Eric Bogle as he sat by the WW1 gravestone of Private Willie McBride. But who was the young soldier buried there? And where in Northern Ireland did he come from?
According to Bogle’s song, he was a soldier who died in 1916 on the western front in France. Eric Bogle is a scot, resident in Australia, and the words of his song make it clear that he believed Willie McBride to be a fellow Scot. The question “Did the pipes play the Flowers of the Forest” posed in the balled indicates such a belief: pipers playing a Scottish lament could only have been performing the obsequies of a Scottish soldier. Some years ago in an interview with Bogle in which he was to have stated that the soldier’s headstone bore the inscription Gunner William McBride but, believing that people would not understand that this was a military rank, he substituted Private Willie McBride in his lyrics. Many versions of the song now simply describe him as young Willie McBride. If McBride was a gunner-a private soldier in the Royal Artillery –then the mystery of Willie McBride deepens. For there was a Gunner William McBride of the Royal Field Artillery who died in France in 1917 and he was an Irishman. Gunner McBride was the son of William and Isabella McBride of Ash Grove, Newry. But he has no known grave and is commemorated on Panel 1 of the Cambrai Memorial in the Nord department of France. No one could have rested beside his grave. There is one other William McBride who was Irish and served in the Gunners. A second lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery, and a Belfastman, Lieutenant William Wilson McBride of 229 Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, died on December 5, 1917 at the age of 20. He was the son of William Durham and Elizabeth Wallace McBride of Malone, Belfast. He does have a known grave, but Lieutenant McBride was killed in action on the Italian front. So, having eliminated the Gunners both of whom died in 1917 anyway, lets turn to the infantry where we find several Willie McBrides. There are 13, in fact most of whom served in Scottish regiments. Those who died in 1916 included three Irish soldiers, two from the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and one from the Royal Irish Rifles. The two Inniskillingers were Private William McBride of Dervock, Co Antrim who enlisted in the Royal Irish Rifles in Belfast but later transferred to the Royal Inniskillings Fusiliers and Private William McBride, the son of Joseph and Lina McBride of Roan Cottage, Lislea, Co Armagh.
On February 10,1916, while serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Skins, William McBride from Dervock was killed in action in France. He is buried in Authuile military cemetery, some three miles north of Albert, around which much of the fighting of July 1,1916 took place. His age is not recorded, nor do the records include any details of his family. The other Private William McBride, from Armagh but was also enlisted in Belfast was killed in Action in France on April 22,1916 while serving with the 9th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. The 9th Battalion were the Tyrone Volunteers and it is quite possible that Willie McBride had been a member of the UVF. Both Inniskillingers are described as Private as the regiment did not start using the designation Fusilier for a private soldier until 1922. On July 2, 1916 Rifleman William John McBride of the 8th Royal Irish Rifles was killed in Action during the Battle of Albert, more commonly known as the Somme. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, which dominates the former battlefield. His age is unknown but, since his regimental number was 1442, he was probably a pre-war regular soldier and thus a little older than Boggle’s soldier. None of these men fits exactly into the template of the Willie McBride of the ballad. However, if we look at 1915 instead of 1916 we find two private soldiers and a lance-corporal called William McBride serving in serving in Scottish regiments. None of these three men has a known grave and one died in Gallipoli, thus removing them from the list of possibles. One other Private William McBride lies buried in the green fields of France. Private William McBride, 5th Queen’s Own Highlanders, rests in Banneville-La Campagne war cemetery in Calvados. A Glaswegian, he was 30 years old and married. And there is one other detail that doesn’t fit the ballad he was killed in an altogether bloodier conflict, but one but one which in the public imagination was less bloody than the Great War. This Willie McBride died in the battle for Normandy in 1944. So it looks as if the most plausible identification of Eric Bogle’s Willie McBride is that he was a soldier of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, a young man from Dervock who lost his life on a February day in 1916. It is highly unlikely that there was any formal funeral certainly the presence of pipes, fifes and band is implausible. The real Willie McBride would have been buried by a detachment of his comrades with his battalion chaplain conducting a short service at the graveside. Alternatively, he may have been buried by a grave registration unit.

The Words to the Song are as follows:
Well how do you do Private William McBride
Do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside,
I'll rest for a while in the warm summer sun
I've been walking all day, Lord and I'm nearly done
I see by your gravestone you were only 19
When you joined the great fallen of 1916
I hope you died well and I hope you died clean
Or young Willie McBride was it slow and obscene
Chorus:
Did they beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly,
did they sound the death march as they lowered you down ?
and did the band play the last post and chorus ?
And did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
Did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind
In some faithful heart is your memory enshrined
And though you died back in 1916, to that loyal heart are you forever 19,
Or are you a stranger without even a name
Enshrined there forever behind a glass pane
In an old photograph torn and tattered and stained
And fading to yellow in a brown leather frame
Chorus
------
The sun's shining now on the green Fields of France
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance
The trenches have vanished long under the plough
There's no gas, no barbed wire, there's no guns firing now
But here in this graveyard it's still no man's land
And the countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To man's blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation who were butchered and damned
Chorus
------
And I can't help but wonder young Willie McBride
Do all who lie here with you know why they died
Did you really believe it when they told you the cause
Did you honestly think that one war would end wars
Well your suffering, your sorrow, your glory, your shame
Your killing, your dying, it was all done in vain..........
'Cos young Willie McBride it all happened again, and again, and again, and again and again

Paul Simon's
America
"Let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together."
"I've got some real estate here in my bag."
So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies
And we walked off to look for America.
"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now
It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw
I've come to look for America."
Laughing on the bus;
Playing games with the faces;
She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy;
I said "Be careful his bowtie is really a camera."
"Toss me a cigarette, I think there's one in my raincoat."
"We smoked the last one an hour ago."
So I looked at the scenery, she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field.
"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping.
"I'm empty and aching and I don't know why."
Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike:
They've all come to look for America
All come to look for America
All come to look for America

Home On The Range
Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
Oh give me a land where the bright diamond sand
Flows leisurely down the stream
Where the graceful white swan goes gliding along
Like a maid in a heavenly dream
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
Oh often at night, when the heavens are bright
From the light of the glittering stars
Have I stood there amazed and asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds that of ours
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

Battle Hymn of the Republic
The tune was originally a camp-meeting hymn "Oh brothers, will you meet us on Canaan's happy shore?" It evolved into John Brown's Body. Then in 1861 Julia Ward Howe wife of a government official, wrote a poem for Atlantic Monthly for five dollars. The magazine called it, Battle Hymn of the Republic. The music may be by William Steffe.
Mine eyes have seen the glory
Of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage
Where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning
Of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Chorus
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watchfires
Of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar
In the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence
By the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Chorus
I have read a fiery gospel writ
In burnished rows of steel:
"As ye deal with My contemners,
So with you My grace shall deal":
Let the Hero born of woman
Crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Chorus
He has sounded forth the trumpet
That shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men
Before His judgement seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him;
Be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Chorus
In the beauty of the lilies
Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom
That transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy,
Let us die to make men free;
While God is marching on.
Chorus

The Sound of Silence
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

The Star Spangled Banner
(The Defense of Fort McHenry)
September 20, 1814
By Francis Scott Key
Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner forever shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

America The Beautiful
Katharine Lee Bates wrote the original version in 1893. She wrote the 2nd version in 1904. Her final version was written in 1913.
Here is a note from Katharine Lee Bates:
"One day some of the other teachers and I decided to go on a trip to 14,000-foot Pikes Peak. We hired a prairie wagon. Near the top we had to leave the wagon and go the rest of the way on mules. I was very tired. But when I saw the view, I felt great joy. All the wonder of America seemed displayed there, with the sea-like expanse."
America the Beautiful - 1913
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife.
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!
O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America ! America !
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!
O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life !
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

Two Versions
THE HOKEY POKEY, Original Lyrics
Put your left foot in,
Your left foot out,
Your left foot in,
And shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey
And turn yourself around
That's what it's all about.
THE HOKEY POKEY, Shakespearean Style
O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin:
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke.
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wilde release from heaven's yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke -- banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, 'tis what it's all about.

My Old Kentucky Home
Words and Music by: Stephen C. Foster
The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home
'Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day;
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy, and bright,
By'n by hard times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!
Chorus
Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home far away.
They hunt no more for the 'possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by that old cabin door;
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow where all was delight;
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!
Chorus
The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days and the trouble all will end
In the field where sugar-canes may grow;
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light,
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!
Chorus

It Had To Be You
It had to be you
It had to be you
I wandered around
And finally found
Somebody who …
Could make me be true
Could make me be blue
And even be glad
Just to be sad
Thinkin’ of you.
Some others I’ve seen
Might never be mean
They might never be cross
Or try to be boss
What they wouldn’t do.
Nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults
I love you still
It had to be you
Wonderful you
It had to be you.
Some others I’ve seen
They might never be mean
Might never be cross
Or try to be the big boss
What they wouldn’t do.
There ain’t nobody else
That gives me a thrill
With all your faults
I love you still
It had to be you
Wonderful you
It had to be you!

Splish, splash
I was takin' a bath
Long about a Saturday night … yeah!
Rub-a-dub
Just relaxin' in the tub
Thinkin' everything was all right.
Well … I stepped out the tub
Put my feet on the floor
I wrapped the towel around me
And I opened the door.
And … then-a … splish, splash
I jumped back in the bath
Well … how was I to know
There was a party going on.
They was a splishin' and a splashin'
Reelin' with the feelin'
Moving and a groovin’
Rockin' and a rollin' … yeah!
Bing, bang
I saw the whole gang
Dancin’ on my living room rug … yeah …
Flip flop
They was doin’ the bop
All the teens had the dancin’ bug.
There was Lollipop with-a Peggy Sue
Good Golly, Miss Molly was-a even there, too!
A-well-a. … splish, splash
I forgot about the bath
I went and put my dancin’ shoes on … yea!
I was a rollin' and a strollin'
Reelin' with the feelin'
Movin’ and a groovin'
Splishin' and a splashin’ … yeah!
Yes … I was a splishin' and a splashin'
I was a rollin' and a strollin'
Yeah … I was a movin' and a groovin' ... woo!
We was a reelin' with the feelin' … ha!
We was a rollin' and a strollin'
Movin’ with the groovin'
Splish, splash … yeah!
I was a splishin' and a splashin' … one time …
I was a splishin' and a splashin' … woo-woo!
I was a movin' and a-groovin' …

Mack The Knife
Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear
And it shows them pearly white
Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe
And he keeps it … ah … out of sight.
Ya know when that shark bites, with his teeth, babe
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves, though, wears old MacHeath, babe
So there’s nevah, nevah a trace of red.
Now on the sidewalk … uuh, huh … whoo … sunny mornin’ … uuh, huh
Lies a body just oozin’ life … eeek!
And someone’s sneakin’ ‘round the corner
Could that someone be Mack the Knife?
A-there’s a tugboat … huh, huh, huh … down by the river don’tcha know
Where a cement bag’s just a’droopin’ on down
Oh, that cement is just, it’s there for the weight, dear
Five’ll get ya ten old Macky’s back in town.
Now, d’ja hear ‘bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe
After drawin’ out all his hard-earned cash
And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor
Could it be our boy’s done somethin’ rash?
Now … Jenny Diver … ho, ho … yeah … Sukey Tawdry
Ooh … Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Oh, the line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky’s back in town.
Aah … I said Jenny Diver … whoa … Sukey Tawdry
Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown
Yes, that line forms on the right, babe
Now that Macky’s back in town …
Look out … old Macky is back!!

As we sang love's old sweet song

Singer: Eddie Fisher
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so good
No one could be, so gentle and so lovable
Oh, my pa-pa, he always understood.
Gone are the days when he could take me on his knee
And with a smile he'd change my tears to laughter
Oh, my pa-pa, so funny, so adorable
Always the clown so funny in his way
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Deep in my heart I miss him so today.

WHEN YOU WERE SWEET SIXTEEN
When first I saw the love-light in your eyes
I thought the world held naught but joy for me
And even though we've drifted far apart
I never dream, but what I dream of thee
Chorus:
I love you as I've never loved before
Since I first Saw you on the village green
Come to me in my dreams of love astoir
I love you as I loved you , when you were sweet
When you were sweet sixteen
Last night I dreamt I held your hand in mine
And once again you were my happy bride
I kissed you as I did in Auld Lang syne
As to the church we wandered side by side

Pg-13 song parody
Here's a little ditty I wrote to the tune of Ice Ice Baby. Enjoy!
Splice, Splice Baby (to the tune of Ice Ice Baby)
Yo, VIC, let’s kick it!
Splice; splice baby, splice, splice baby
All right stop, thread it up and listen.
Edison’s got a brand new invention.
Film wraps around the brain tightly
Calls on my radio daily and nightly
Will it ever stop? Yo – I don’t know
Turn on the lights and call Joe
I had a dream that the brain had a handle
Light up the film with a bulb not a candle
Sub, is the speaker that booms
I’m sweepin’ the booth with a really big push broom
Deadly, when I thread a platter tree
If you thread wrong I’ll charge you with a felony
Thread it and start it, you do it all day
You better thread bull’s eye, nineteen don’t frame
If there was a brain wrap, Yo, I’ll solve it
Check out the print while the platter revolves it
Chorus (add Vanilla)
Now that the movie is jumpin’
With the sub kicked in and the JBL’s pumpin’
Quick to the wrap and the film’s not breakin’
I’m cookin’ previews like a pound of bacon
Thread fast ‘cause I’m quick and nimble
It looks hard but it’s really quite simple
Buildin’ prints with a souped up tempo
I passed the test and it’s time to thread solo
Threadin’, up the next show
Workin’ a double and it really blows
The usher on low side waving just to say Hi
Did you stop? No – I just ran by
Kept on runnin’ to the high side
I bust a left and I’m headin’ to my next start
That one was done yo
So I continued to thread a print of Stuart Little 2
The booth is hot wearin’ my BVDs
Those desk jockeys don’t know anything
Phone call, get a proj on the line
Screenvision ads are wastin’ all my time
Bangin’ my head on the wall
I’m feelin’ ill, clocked myself in the balls.
Alarms rang out like a bell
Thought that it was nine – All I heard were yells
Coming from the radio real fast
Jumped from the desk, fell on my ass
Shoulder to shoulder the lobby was packed
I’m tryin’ to get through but there isn’t any cracks
Adam’s on the scene, you know what I mean
He passed me up confronted all the dumb teens
If there was a brain wrap, Yo – I’ll solve it
Check out the print while Lisa revolves it.
Can’t believe that print is still showin’
Runs in number 8 hope the platter doesn’t throw it
Some clown, said “there ‘aint no surround sound”
It’s dialogue, now his head I’m gonna pound
The schedule that’s created by Bill
Crappy showtimes what the Hell is the deal
Thread it and start it, that is the concept
Got no life why’d I ever learn this
Dave threads number 8, quiet like a ninja
Threads like a lightning bolt so fast, other projs say “damn”
If xekote was a drug, I’d sell it by the gram
Keep my composure when it’s time to make print moves
Electrified by two wires that came loose
If there was a brain wrap Yo – I’ll solve it
Check out the print while Mary revolves it
Chorus
Yo Ryan – Let’s get out of here! Word to your manager!
Splice splice baby booth’s cold (repeat)

LET ME SING, I'M HAPPY
What care I who makes the laws of a nation
Let those who will take care of its rights and wrongs
What care I who care for the world's affairs
As long as I can sing this popular song
Let me sing a funny song with crazy words that roll along
And if my song can start you laughing I'm happy, so happy
Let me sing a sad refrain of broken hears that love in vain
And if my song can start you crying I'm happy
Let me croon a low down blues to lift you out of your seat
If my song can reach your shoes
And start you tapping your feet, I'm happy
Let me sing of Dixie's charms
Cotton fields and mammy's arms
And if my song can make you homesick I'm happy
I'm happy
Let me sing of Dixie's charms
Cotton fields and mammy's arms
And if my song can make you homesick I'm happy

IN A SHANTY IN OLD SHANTY TOWN
Ted Lewis
(Joe Young/Little Jack Little & John Siras)
I'm up in the world,
but I'd give the world to be where I used to be,
A heavenly nest,
where I rest the best,
means more than the world to me.
It's only a shanty
in old Shanty Town
the roof is so slanty it touches the ground.
But my tumbled down shack by an old railroad track,
like a millionaire's mansion is calling me back.
I'd give up a palace if I were a king.
It's more than a palace, it's my everything.
There's a queen waiting there with a silvery crown
in a shanty in old Shanty Town.
Duet part:
There's a shanty in the town
On a little plot of ground
Where the green grass grows all around, all around.
The roof's so worn,
So badly torn,
That it tumbles to the ground.
It's a little old shack,
And it's set right back
25 feet from the railroad track,
Lingers in my mind
Most all of the time,
Keeps calling me back
To my little old shack.
I'm feeling just as sassy
As Haile Selassie:
If I were a king,
'Twouldn't mean a thing,
Put my boots on tall,
Read the writing on the wall,
And it wouldn't mean a thing,
Not a goddam thing.
There's a queen waiting there
In a rocking chair,
Blowing her top on some gator beer.
A-looking all around
And a-trucking on down,
How I want to get back to my shanty town!

When you are old and grey
Since I still appreciate you, let's find love while we may,
Because I know I'll hate you, when you are old and grey.
So say you love me here and now, I'll make the most of that,
Say you'll love and trust me, for I know you'll disgust me,
When we're old and getting fat.
An awful debility, a lessened utility,
A loss of mobility is a strong possibility.
In all probability I'll lose my virility,
And you your fertility and desirability.
And this liability of total sterility
Will lead to hostility and a sense of futility,
So lets act with agility while we still have facility,
For we'll soon reach senility and loose the ability...
Your teeth will start to go,dear, your waist will start to spread.
In twenty years or so, dear, I'll wish that you were dead.
I'll never love you then at all, the way I do today,
So please remember, when I leave in Decemeber, I told you so in May!

I hold your hand in mine...
I hold your hand in mine, dear
I press it to my lips
I take a healthy bite from
your lovely fingertips.
My joy would be complete, dear
If you were only here.
But still I keep your hand
As a lovely souvenir.
The night you died I cut it off,
I really don't know why.
For now each time I kiss it,
I get bloodstains on my tie.
I'm sorry now I killed you,,
For our love was something fine!
Until they come to get me,
I shall hold your hand in mine!

FIGHT FIERCELY HARVARD
Fight fiercely, Harvard,
fight, fight, fight!
Demonstrate to them our skill.
Albeit they possess the might,
Nonetheless we have the will.
How we shall celebrate our victory,
We shall invite the whole team up for tea
(How jolly!)
Hurl that spheroid down the field, and
Fight, fight, fight!
Fight fiercely, Harvard,
fight, fight, fight!
Impress them with our prowess, do!
Oh, fellows, do not let the crimson down,
Be of stout heart and thru.
Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard's glorious name,
Won't it be peachy if we win the game?
(Oh, goody!)
Let's try not to injure them, but
Fight, fight, fight!
And do fight fiercely!
Fight, fight, fight!

Camp Grenada
Hello muddah, hello faddah
Here I am at Camp Granada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.
I went hiking with Joe Spivy
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.
All the counselors hate the waiters
And the lake has alligators
And the head coach wants no sissies
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses.
How I don't want this should scare ya
But my bunkmate has malaria
You remember Jeffrey Hardy
They're about to organize a searching party.
Take me home, oh muddah, faddah
Take me home, I hate Granada
Don't leave me out in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear.
Take me home I promise I will not make noise
Or mess the house with other boys.
Oh please don't make me stay
I've been here one whole day.
Dearest faddah, darling muddah,
How's my precious little bruddah
Let me come home, if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me.
Wait a minute, it's stopped hailing.
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing
Playing baseball, gee that's better
Muddah, faddah kindly disregard this letter. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

CLEMENTINE
In a cavern, in a canyon,
Excavating for a mine
Dwelt a miner forty niner,
And his daughter Clementine
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
Thou art lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine
Light she was and like a fairy,
And her shoes were number nine,
Herring boxes, without topses,
Sandals were for Clementine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
Thou art lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine
Drove she ducklings to the water
Ev'ry morning just at nine,
Hit her foot against a splinter,
Fell into the foaming brine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
Thou art lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine
Ruby lips above the water,
Blowing bubbles, soft and fine,
But, alas, I was no swimmer,
So I lost my Clementine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
Thou art lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine
How I missed her! How I missed her,
How I missed my Clementine,
But I kissed her little sister,
I forgot my Clementine.
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
Thou art lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

All Through the Night
Written By: Sir Harold Boulton (1884)
Copyright Unknown
(Old Welsh Air)
Sleep, my child, and peace attend thee,
All through the night;
Guardian angels God will send thee,
All through the night;
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and vale in slumber sleeping,
I my loving vigil keeping,
All through the night.
While the moon her watch is keeping,
All through the night;
While the weary world is sleeping,
All through the night;
O'er thy spirit gently stealing,
Visions of delight revealing,
Breathes a pure and holy feeling,
All through the night.
Hark, a solemn bell is ringing,
Clear through the night;
You, my love, are heav'nward winging,
Home through the night.
Earthly dust from off thee shaken,
By good angels art though taken;
Soul immortal shalt though waken,
Home through the night.

Little nest that nestles where the roses bloom

THE SWEETHEART OF SIGMA CHI SONG LYRICS
When the world goes wrong, as it's bound to do
And you've broken Dan Cupid's bow
And you long for the girl you used to love
the maid of the long ago
Why light your pipe, bid sorrow avaunt,
Blow the smoke from your alter of dreams
And wreathe the face of your dream-girl there
The love that is just what it seems.
The girl of my dreams is the sweetest girl
Of all the girls I know
Each sweet co-ed, like a rainbow trail
Fades in the after glow
The blue of her eyes and the gold of her hair
Are a blend of the western sky
And the moonlight beams
On the girl of my dreams
She's the Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.

Gilligan's Island
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.
The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.
The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
The professor and Mary Ann,
Here on Gilligans Isle.
So this is the talel of the castways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.
The first mate and the Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the tropic island nest.
No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primative as can be.
So join us here each week my freinds,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castways,
Here on "Gilligan's Isle."

Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold, like their mother,

Here's the store, of a man named Brady,
Who was busy with three boys of his own,
They were four men, living all together,
Yet they were all alone.
Till the one day when the lady met this fellow
And they knew it was much more than a hunch,
That this group would somehow form a family.
That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch.

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows

You wanna go where everybody knows

Over in Killarney
Over in Killarney
Many years ago,
Me Mither sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good ould Irish way,
And l'd give the world if she could sing
That song to me this day.
Chorus:
"Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, hush now, don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, that's an Irish lullaby."
Oft in dreams I wander
To that cot again,
I feel her arms a-huggin' me
As when she held me then.
And I hear her voice a -hummin'
To me as in days of yore,
When she used to rock me fast asleep
Outside the cabin door.

When Irish Eyes Are Smilin'
There's a tear in your eye,
And I'm wondering why,
For it never should be there at all.
With such pow'r in your smile,
Sure a stone you'd beguile,
So there's never a teardrop should fall.
When your sweet lilting laughter's
Like some fairy song,
And your eyes twinkle bright as can be;
You should laugh all the while
And all other times smile,
And now, smile a smile for me.
Chorus
When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter
You can hear the angels sing.
When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.
For your smile is a part
Of the love in your heart,
And it makes even sunshine more bright.
Like the linnet's sweet song,
Crooning all the day long,
Comes your laughter and light.
For the springtime of life
Is the sweetest of all
There is ne'er a real care or regret;
And while springtime is ours
Throughout all of youth's hours,
Let us smile each chance we get.

The Mountains of Mourne
Oh Mary this London's a wonderful sight
With people here workin' by day and by night
They don't sow potatoes, nor barley, nor wheat
But there's gangs of them diggin' for gold in the street
At least when I asked them that's what I was told
So I just took a hand at this diggin' for gold
But for all that I found there I might as well be
Where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea.
I believe that when writin' a wish you expressed
As to how the fine ladies in London were dressed
Well if you'll believe me, when asked to a ball
They don't wear no top to their dresses at all
Oh I've seen them meself and you could not in truth
Say that if they were bound for a ball or a bath
Don't be startin' them fashions, now Mary McCree
Where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea.
There's beautiful girls here, oh never you mind
With beautiful shapes nature never designed
And lovely complexions all roses and cream
But let me remark with regard to the same
That if that those roses you venture to sip
The colors might all come away on your lip
So I'll wait for the wild rose that's waitin' for me
In the place where the dark Mourne sweeps down to the sea.

The Wild Rover
I've been a wild rover for many a year
And I spent all my money on whiskey and beer,
And now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the wild rover no more.
chorus:
And it's no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will I play the wild rover
No never no more.
I went to an ale-house I used to frequent
And I told the landlady my money was spent.
I asked her for credit, she answered me "nay
Such a custom as yours I could have any day."
chorus
I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight.
She said "I have whiskey and wines of the best
And the words that I spoke sure were only in jest."
chorus
I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son.
And if they caress (forgive) me as ofttimes before
Sure I never will play the wild rover no more.

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

WALTZING MATILDA
Once a jolly swagman camped by a Billabong
Under the shade of a Coolabah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"
Down come a jumbuck to drink at the water hole
Up jumped a swagman and grabbed him in glee
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tucker bag
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me'".
Up rode the Squatter a riding his thoroughbred
Up rode the Trooper - one, two, three
"Where's that jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?",
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
But the swagman he up and jumped in the water hole
Drowning himself by the Coolabah tree,

SECOND HAND ROSE
Father has a business strictly second hand
Everything from toothpicks to a baby-grand
Stuff in our apartment came from father’s store
Even things I’m wearing someone wore before
It’s no wonder that I feel abused
I never get a thing that ain’t been used
I’m wearing second hand hats
Second hand clothes
That’s why they call me
Second hand rose
Even our piano in the parlor
Father bought for ten cents on the dollar
Second hand pearls
I’m sick of second hand curls
I never get a single think that’s new
Even jake, the plumber, he’s a man I adore
Had the nerve to tell me he’s been married before!
Everyone knows that I’m just
Second hand rose
From second avenue!
From second avenue! nu!
One more time!
Everyone knows that I’m just
Second hand rose
(from second avenue!)
From what?
Let’s see if you know the fills!
Once while strooling
Through the ritz a girl got my goat...
(she nudged her friend
And said oh look there goes
My old fur coat)
You don’t need me!
Everyone knows that I’m just
Second hand rose
From second avenue!
(ya can’t beat the egg-creams!)
Good! second avenue!
(there is more between me
And fifth avenue, I tell ya)
Right! second avenue!

Ya Got Trouble Lyrics
Well, either you're closing your eyes
To a situation you do now wish to acknowledge
Or you are not aware of the caliber of disaster indicated
By the presence of a pool table in your community.
Ya got trouble, my friend, right here,
I say, trouble right here in River City.
Why sure I'm a billiard player,
Certainly mighty proud I say
I'm always mighty proud to say it.
I consider that the hours I spend
With a cue in my hand are golden.
Help you cultivate horse sense
And a cool head and a keen eye.
Never take and try to give
An iron-clad leave to yourself
From a three-reail billiard shot?
But just as I say,
It takes judgement, brains, and maturity to score
In a balkline game,
I say that any boob kin take
And shove a ball in a pocket.
And they call that sloth.
The first big step on the road
To the depths of deg-ra-Day--
I say, first, medicinal wine from a teaspoon,
Then beer from a bottle.
An' the next thing ya know,
Your son is playin' for money
In a pinch-back suit.
And list'nin to some big out-a-town Jasper
Hearin' him tell about horse-race gamblin'.
Not a wholesome trottin' race, no!
But a race where they set down right on the horse!
Like to see some stuck-up jockey'boy
Sittin' on Dan Patch? Make your blood boil?
Well, I should say.
Friends, lemme tell you what I mean.
Ya got one, two, three, four, five, six pockets in a table.
Pockets that mark the diff'rence
Between a gentlemen and a bum,
With a capital "B,"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool!
And all week long your River City
Youth'll be frittern away,
I say your young men'll be frittern!
Frittern away their noontime, suppertime, choretime too!
Get the ball in the pocket,
Never mind gittin' Dandelions pulled
Or the screen door patched or the beefsteak pounded.
Never mind pumpin' any water
'Til your parents are caught with the Cistern empty
On a Saturday night and that's trouble,
Oh, yes we got lots and lots a' trouble.
I'm thinkin' of the kids in the knickerbockers,
Shirt-tail young ones, peekin' in the pool
Hall window after school, look, folks!
Right here in River City.
Trouble with a capital "T"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool!
Now, I know all you folks are the right kinda parents.
I'm gonna be perfectly frank.
Would ya like to know what kinda conversation goes
On while they're loafin' around that Hall?
They're tryin' out Bevo, tryin' out cubebs,
Tryin' out Tailor Mades like Cigarette Feends!
And braggin' all about
How they're gonna cover up a tell-tale breath with Sen-Sen.
One fine night, they leave the pool hall,
Headin' for the dance at the Arm'ry!
Libertine men and Scarlet women!
And Rag-time, shameless music
That'll grab your son and your daughter
With the arms of a jungle animal instink!
Mass-staria!
Friends, the idle brain is the devil's playground!
People:
Trouble, oh we got trouble,
Right here in River City!
With a capital "T"
That rhymes with "P"
And that stands for Pool,
That stands for pool.
We've surely got trouble!
Right here in River City,
Right here!
Gotta figger out a way
To keep the young ones moral after school!
Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble...

Drink to me only with thine eyes
Drink to me only with thine eyes
And I will pledge with mine.
Or leave a kiss within the cup
And I'll not ask for wine.
The thirst that from the soul doth rise
Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove's nectar sip,
I would not change for thine.
I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
Not so much hon'ring thee
As giving it a hope that there
It could not withered be;
But thou thereon did'st only breathe,
And sent'st it back to me,
Since when it grows and smells, I swear
Not of itself, but thee.

APRIL SHOWERS
Though April showers may come your way,
They bring the flowers that bloom in May.
So if it's raining, have no regrets,
Because it isn't raining rain, you know, (It's raining violets,)
And where you see clouds upon the hills,
You soon will see crowds of daffodils,
So keep on looking for a blue bird, And list'ning for his song,
Whenever April showers come along.
And where you see clouds upon the hills,
You soon will see crowds of daffodils,
So keep on looking for a blue bird, And list'ning for his song,

Billy Boy, Billy Boy
Oh, where have you been,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Oh, where have you been,
Charming Billy?
I have been to seek a wife,
She's the joy of my life,
She's a young thing
And cannot leave her mother.
Did she ask you to come in,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did she ask you to come in,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she asked me to come in,
There's a dimple in her chin.
She's a young thing
And cannot leave her mother.
Can she make a cherry pie,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Can she make a cherry pie,
Charming Billy?
She can make a cherry pie,
Quick as a cat can wink an eye,
She's a young thing
And cannot leave her mother.
How old is she,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
How old is she,
Charming Billy?
Three times six and four times seven,
Twenty-eight and eleven,
She's a young thing
And cannot leave her mother.

She's the idol of my life.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Where does she live,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Oh, where does she live?
Charming Billy?
She lives on the hill,
Forty miles from the mill.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Did she bid you to come in,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did she bid you to come in,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she bade me to come in,
And to kiss her on the chin.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Did she take your hat,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did she take your hat,

Yes, she took my hat,
And she threw it at the cat.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Did she set for you a chair,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Did she set for you a chair,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she set for me a chair,
But the bottom wasn't there.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Can she bake a cherry pie,

Can she bake a cherry pie,

She can bake a cherry pie,
Quick's a cat can wink her eye.
She's a young thing,

Can she make a feather bed,

She can make a feather bed,
That will rise above your head.
She's a young thing,

Can she milk a heifer calf,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Can she milk a heifer calf,

Yes, she can, and not miss
The bucket more than half.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Is she often seen at church,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Is she often seen at church,
Charming Billy?
Yes, she's often seen at church,
With a bonnet white as birch.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
And is she very tall,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
And is she very tall,
Charming Billy?
She's as tall as any pine,
And as straight as a pumpkin vine.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Are her eyes very bright,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Are her eyes very bright,
Charming Billy?
Yes, her eyes are very bright,
But, alas, they're minus sight.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
Can she sing a pretty song,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
Can she sing a pretty song,
Charming Billy?
She can sing a pretty song,
But she often sings it wrong.
She's a young thing,
And cannot leave her mother.
How old may she be,
Billy Boy, Billy Boy?
How old may she be,
Charming Billy?
Three times six and four times seven,
Twenty eight and eleven,
She's a young thing,

The Campptown ladies sing this song,
Doo-da, Doo-da
The Camptown racetrack's five miles long
Oh, de doo-da day
Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray
Oh, the long tailed filly and the big black horse,
Doo-da, doo-da
Come to a mud hole and they all cut across,
Oh, de doo-da day
Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray
I went down there with my hat caved in,
Doo-da, doo-da
I came back home with a pocket full of tin
Oh, de doo-da day
Goin' to run all night
Goin' to run all day
I bet my money on a bob-tailed nag
Somebody bet on the gray

I'll take you home again, Kathleen
I'll take you home again, Kathleen
Across the ocean wild and wide
To where your heart has ever been
Since you were first my bonnie bride.
The roses all have left your cheek.
I've watched them fade away and die
Your voice is sad when e'er you speak
And tears bedim your loving eyes.
Chorus:
Oh! I will take you back, Kathleen
To where your heart will feel no pain
And when the fields are fresh and green
I'll take you to your home again!
I know you love me, Kathleen, dear
Your heart was ever fond and true.
I always feel when you are near
That life holds nothing, dear, but you.
The smiles that once you gave to me
I scarcely ever see them now
Though many, many times I see
A dark'ning shadow on your brow.
Chorus
To that dear home beyond the sea
My Kathleen shall again return.
And when thy old friends welcome thee
Thy loving heart will cease to yearn.
Where laughs the little silver stream
Beside your mother's humble cot
And brightest rays of sunshine gleam
There all your grief will be forgot.
Chorus

Gilly Gilly by the Sea
There's a tiny house
By a tiny stream
Where a lovely lass
Had a lovely dream
And the dream came true
Quite unexpectedly
In Gilly-gilly-hassenpfeffer-catch-an-Allan-Bogen-by-the-sea
She was out one day
Where the tulips grow
When a handsome lad
Stopped to say hello
And before she knew
He kissed her tenderly

And before she knew

In Gilly-gilly-hassenpfeffer-catch-an-Allan-Bogen-by-the-sea
The happy pair were married, one Sunday afternoon
They left the church and ran away, to spend their honeymoon
In a tiny house
By a tiny stream
Where a lovely lass
Had a lovely dream
And the last I heard
They still lived happily

Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair
I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Borne, like a vapor, on the summer air;
I see her tripping where the bright streams play,
Happy as the daisies that dance on her way.
Many were the wild notes her merry voice would pour.
Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o'er:
Oh! I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating, like a vapor, on the soft summer air.
I long for Jeanie with the day dawn smile,
Radiant in gladness, warm with winning guile;
I hear her melodies, like joys gone by,
Sighing round my heart o'er the fond hopes that die:
Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain,
Wailing for the lost one that comes not again:
Oh! I long for Jeanie, and my heart bows low,
Never more to find her where the bright waters flow.
I sigh for Jeanie, but her light form strayed
Far from the fond hearts round her native glad;
Her smiles have vanished and her sweet songs flown,
Flitting like the dreams that have cheered us and gone.
Now the nodding wild flowers may wither on the shore
While her gentle fingers will cull them not more:
Oh! I sigh for Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating like a vapor, on the soft summer air.

Dukes of Hazard
Just two good old boys,
Never meaning no harm.
Beats all you ever you saw,
Been in trouble with the law
Since the day they were born.
Straightening the curves,
Flattenin the hill.
Someday the mountain
Might get them but the law never will.
Makin their way-
The only way they know how
That's just a little bit more
Than the law will allow.
Makin their way-,
The only way they know how.
That's just a little bit more
Than the law will allow.
Just two good old boys
Couldn't change if they could.
Fightin' the system like two modern-day Robin Hoods.

Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.
New York is where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.
...The chores.
...The stores.
...Fresh air.
...Times Square
You are my wife.
Good bye, city life.

Greatest American Hero
Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.
Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.
It's like a light of a new day-,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true-.
Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free-.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer.
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

It's an institute you can't disparage,
Ask the local gentry, and they will say is element'ry.
Try, try, try to separate them,
It's an illusion.
Try, try, try and you will only come

You can't have none
You can't have one without the other.

YOU GOTTA RING THEM BELLS
Gather around, I've got a story to tell,About a Manhattan girl that I know very well, She lives at five Riverside, her name is Shirley Devore, And she travelled 'round the world to meet the guy next door.
Well there was trouble inside apartment 29 E,'Cause Shirley's mother and dad were as upset as can be. They said we hate to complain dear and we don't like to grouse, But your nearly 32, you should get out of the house.
You gotta ring them bells, You gotta ring them bells, You gotta make 'em sing and really ting a ling It's such a happy thing to hear 'em ting-a-ling, You gotta ring - them - bells
Well Shirley was 31, which she was loathe to admit, And she had never been loved, which didn't bother her a bit. And so she sat and she thought, she thought for hours on end, And said I'll go to Chase,Manhattan, where I got me a friend. And so she borrowed a thou' and called TWA, And told his mother and dad that she was up and away. I'm gonna travel the continent, a month, maybe two, And haul me home a husband' if it's the last thing I do.
You gotta ring them bells, You gotta ring them bells, You gotta make 'em sing and really ring them bells. It's such a happy thing to hear 'em ting-a-ling, You gotta ring - them - bells.
She met a Londoner first, but they did not hit it off, 'Cause every time she approached she got a bronchial cough. And so she went to Madrid and met a handsome Señor, But he liked to throw the bull and he was no matador. She also bombed out in Brussels, in Majorca and Rome, Til' someone said try Dubrovnik, dear, before you go home.'Cause it's the kind of a town where you'll be likely to fall, And all the Czechs find the Balkans a ball.
You gotta ring them bells, you gotta ring them bells, You gotta make 'em sing and really ring them bells, It's such a happy thing to hear 'em ting-a-ling, You gotta ring - them - bells.
And so she went to Debruvnik and the very first day, She met a guy on the beach who took her reason away.Yes, it was love at first sight and quite a beautiful scene,She said my name is Shirley Devore; he said I'm Norm Saperstein.
She said, 'Are you from New York?' He said 'That can't be denied, 'I've got a swell junior three at number five Riverside.' 'Five? Five Riverside Drive in New York, that's where you live?' 'That's-that's where I live.' 'Five? Are you sure?' As if that wasn't enough, for Shirley thought she'd gone deaf, When she told him her apartment there was 29 E.
Yes, she was 'E', he was 'F', and they had not even met, Until he travelled the world to Yugoslavia yet she'd always been right next door and he would never have known,If she hadn't tried Debrovnik, she might still be alone.
Well - there's a moral to learn from little Shirley Devore, Who had to borrow a thou' to find a lover next door. You guys who live in apartments, don't just stare at the wall, Open up the door and hurry out in the hall.
And...Oh You gotta Ring them bells, come on, ring them bells You gotta make the ting and make 'em sing, you make ting a ling
better ring them bells. It's such a happy thing to hear 'em ting-a-ling, You gotta ring them bells.

The Unicorn
Along time ago
When the earth was green
There were more kinds of
Animals than you've ever see.
And they'd run around free
While the world was being born.
And the lovelist of all
Was the Unicorn!
Chorus
There were green alligators
And long necked geese.
Humpty back camels
And chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants
But sure as your born.
The loveliest of all Was the Unicorn!

"Forty-Five Minutes From Broadway"
Music and Lyrics by George M. Cohan
Verse 1
The West, so they say,
Is home of the jay,
And Missouri's the state
That can grind them.
This may all be,
But just take it from me,
You don't have to go
Out West to find them.
If you want to see
The real jay delegation,
The place where the
Real rubens dwell.
Just hop on a train
At the Grand Central Station.
Get off when they shout
"New Rochelle."
Refrain 1
Only forty-five minutes from Broadway,
Think of the changes it brings;
For the short time it takes,
What a diff'rence it makes
In the ways of the people and things.
Oh! What a fine bunch of rubens,
Oh! what a jay atmosphere;
They have whiskers like hay,
And imagine Broadway
Only forty-five minutes from here.
Verse 2
When the bunco men hear that their game is so near,
They'll be swarming here thicker than bees are.
In Barnum's best days, why he never saw jays
That were easier to get to than these are.
You tell them old jokes and they laugh till they sicken,
There's giggles and grins here to let.
I told them that one about "Why does a chicken,
The rubens are all laughing yet.
Refrain 2
Only forty-five minutes from Broadway,
Not a cafe in the town;
Oh! The place is a bird,
No one here ever heard
Of Delmonico, Rector or Browne.
With a ten-dollar bill you're a spendthrift;
If you open a bottle of beer
You're a sport, so they say,
And imagine Broadway
Only forty-five minutes from here.

Cab Calloway Lyrics
Margie Lyrics
My little Margie,
I'm always thinking of you, Margie!
I'll tell the whole wide world I love you;
Don't forget your promise to me,
You know, I bought the home, ring and everything,
So, my little Margie,
Margie, oh, you've been my inspiration,
Darling, you're the only one!
After all is said and done,
There is really only one,
Margie, Margie, it's you!

I'M My Own Grandpa

Now many, many years ago when I was twenty-three
I was married to a widder who was pretty as can be
This widder had a grown up daughter who had hair of red
My father fell in love with her and soon they too were wed.
This made my dad my son-in-law and changed my very life
My daughter was my mother for she was my father's wife
To complicate the matter even though it brought me joy
I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy.
My little baby then became a brother-in-law to dad
And so became my uncle though it made me very sad
For if he was my uncle then that also made him brother
Of the widder's grown up daughter who of course was my step-mother.
Father's wife then had a son who kept him on the run
And he became my grandchild for he was my daughter's son
My wife is now my mother's mother and it makes me blue
Because although she is my wife, she's my grandmother too.
Now if my wife is my grandmother, then I'm her grandchild
And every time I think of it, it nearly drives me wild
For now I have become the strangest case you ever saw
As husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa.

Lyrics to Purple People Eater.
Well I saw the thing comin' out of the sky
It had the one long horn, one big eye.
I commenced to shakin' and I said "ooh-eee"
It looks like a purple people eater to me.
It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater.
(one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater)
A one-eyed one-horned, flyin' puple people eater
Sure looks stange to me. (one eye?)
Well he came down to earth and lit in a tree
I said Mr. Purple People Eater don't eat me
I heard him say in a voice so gruff
I wouldn't eat you cuz you're so tough
It was a one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
one-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater
Sure looks strange to me. (one horn?)
I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what's your line
He said it's eatin' purple people and it sure is fine
But that's not the reason that I came to land
I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band
Well bless my soul, rock and roll, flying purple
people eater. Pidgeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin'
purple people eater (we wear short shorts)
Flyin' purple people eater
sure looks strange to me.
And then he swung from the tree and lit on the
ground. He started to rock, really rockin' around
It was a crazy little ditty with a swingin' tune
(sing aboop boop aboopa lopa lum bam boom)
Well, bless my soul, rock and roll
flyin' purple people eater.
Pigeon-toed, undergrowed, flyin' purple peopleeater.
Flyin' little people eater
Sure looks strange to me. (purple people?)
And then he went on his way, and then what do
you know. I saw him last night on a TV show.
He was blowing it out, a'really knockin' em dead
Playin' rock and roll music through the horn in
his head (clarinet solo) ( Tequila)

K-K-K-Katy
Jimmy was a soldier brave and bold,
Katy was a maid with hair of gold,
Like an act of fate,
Kate was standing at the gate,
Watching all the boys while on parade.
Kate smiled, with a twinkle in her eye,
Jim said, m-m-m-meet ya by and by.
That night at eight,
Jim was at the garden gate,
Stuttering this song to K-K-K-Kate.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.
No one ever looked so nice and neat,
No one could be just as cute and sweet,
That's what Jimmy thought,
When the wedding ring he bought,
Soon he'll go to France, the foe to meet.
Jimmy thought he'd like to take a chance,
See if he could make the Kaiser dance,
Stepping to a tune,
All about the silv'ry moon,
This is what they'll hear in far off France.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.
K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You're the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I'll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.

And Mr. Lang was very old
-so we called it Old Lang's Sign.

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
'Tis summer, the darkies are gay;
The corn-top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day.
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By 'n' by Hard Times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
Chorus
Weep no more my lady
Oh! weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the Old Kentucky Home far away.

The sun shines bright in My Old Kentucky Home,

All merry, all happy and bright;
By 'n' by hard times comes a knocking at the door,
Then My Old Kentucky Home, good night!
Chorus
Weep no more my lady
Oh weep no more today;

Full Original Version
The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home,
'Tis summer, the darkies are gay;
The corn-top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day.
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy and bright;
By 'n' by Hard Times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
Chorus
Weep no more my lady
Oh! weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the Old Kentucky Home far away.
They hunt no more for the possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by the old cabin door.
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow, where all was delight,
The time has come when the darkies have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
Chorus
The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the darky may go;
A few more days, and the trouble all will end,
In the field where the sugar-canes grow;
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light;
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
Chorus

AMERICAN PIE LYRICS
Don Mclean
A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.
But february made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver.
Bad news on the doorstep;
I couldn’t take one more step.
I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died.
So bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Did you write the book of love,
And do you have faith in God above,
If the Bible tells you so?
Do you believe in rock ’n roll,
Can music save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you’re in love with him
`cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym.
You both kicked off your shoes.
Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.
I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck
With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,
But I knew I was out of luck
The day the music died.
I started singin’,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Now for ten years we’ve been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone,
But that’s not how it used to be.
When the jester sang for the king and queen,
In a coat he borrowed from james dean
And a voice that came from you and me,
Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.
We were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.
Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?
We started singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
Oh, and there we were all in one place,
A generation lost in space
With no time left to start again.
So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devil’s only friend.
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satan’s spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
He was singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store
Where I’d heard the music years before,
But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.
And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The church bells all were broken.
And the three men I admire most:
The father, son, and the holy ghost,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died.
And they were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.
"this’ll be the day that I die."
They were singing,
"bye-bye, miss american pie."
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye
Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die."

The actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews, made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP.
One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favorite Things" from the legendary movie,"Sound Of Music". Here are the lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Cadillacs and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.
When the pipes leak,
When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.
When the joints ache,
When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the
crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.)

Gershwin George
Someone To Watch Over
There's a saying old says that love is blind,
Still we're often told, "Seek and ye shall find."
So I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind.
Looking everywhere, haven't found him yet;
He's the big affair I cannot forget.
Only man I ever think of with regret.
I'd like to add his initials to my monogram.
Tell me, where is the shepherd for this lost lamb?
Chorus:
There's a somebody I'm longing to see,
I hope that he turns out to be
Someone who'll watch over me.
I'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood.
I know I could always be good
To one who'll watch over me.
Although he may not be the man some girls think of as handsome.
To my heart he carries the key.
Won't you tell him please to put on some speed,
Follow my lead, oh, how I need
Someone who'll watch over me.
Repeat chorus

I want a girl just like the girl
That married dear old dad
She was a pearl and the only girl
That daddy ever had
A sweet old-fashioned girl
With eyes so true
One who loves nobody else but you
Oh I want a girl just like the girl
That married dear old dad.
