A place to post helpful hints to make your life more enjoyable

This came from a friend (via the Friends of Petrie Island)they say it works!?

For your next camping trips, BBQ or just sitting outside...

Pass this on to anyone who likes sitting out in the evening or when they're having a cook out. So you don't like those pesky mosquitoes, especially now that they have the potential to carry the West-Nile Virus?

Here's a tip that was given at a recent gardening forum: Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple of drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio
or other outdoor area.

I'm not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color or what, but mosquitoes flock to it,and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate.

Check it out---it works just super! [Smile]

Here's the exercise program I am using to stay in shape this year. You
might want to take it easy at first, then do it faster as you become
more proficient. It may be too strenuous for some.

ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING ANY EXERCISE PROGRAM.

Martha Stewart's Tips For Rednecks

1. Never take a beer to a job interview.

2. Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.

3. It's considered tacky to take a cooler to church.

4. If you have to vacuum the bed, it is time to change the
sheets.

5. Even if you're certain that you are included in the will, it
is still considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral home.

DINING OUT

1. When decanting wine, make sure that you tilt the paper cup,
and pour slowly so as not to "bruise" the fruit of the vine.

2. If drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your
fingers covering the label.

ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME

1. A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared
by a taxidermist.

2. Do not allow the dog to eat from the table...no matter how
good his manners are.

PERSONAL HYGIENE

1. While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that
should be done in private using one's OWN truck keys.

2. Proper use of toiletries can forestall bathing for several
days. However, if you live alone, deodorant is a waste of good
money.

3. Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a social no-no, as
they tend to detract from a woman's jewelry and alter the taste
of finger foods.

DATING (Outside the Family)

1. Always offer to bait your date's hook, especially on the first
date.

2. Be aggressive. Let her know you're interested: "I've been
wanting to go out with you since I read that stuff on the
bathroom wall two years ago."

3. Establish with her parents what time she is expected back.
Some will say 10:00 PM; others might say "Monday." If the latter
is the answer, it is the man's responsibility to get her to
school on time.

THEATER ETIQUETTE

1. Crying babies should be taken to the lobby and picked up
immediately after the movie has ended.

2. Refrain from talking to characters on the screen. Tests have
proven they can't hear you.

WEDDINGS

1. Livestock is usually a poor choice for a wedding gift.

2. Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot.

3. For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a
cummerbund and clean bowling shirt can create a tacky appearance.

4. Though uncomfortable, say "yes" to socks and shoes for this
special occasion.

DRIVING ETIQUETTE

1. Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles, even if the gun
is loaded and the deer is in sight.

2. When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest
tires always has the right of way.

3. Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.

4. When sending your wife down the road with a gas can, it is
impolite to ask her to bring back beer too.

5. Do not lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession

AND YOU THOUGHT COFFEE WAS JUST FOR DRINKING?

+ Dye fabric brown inexpensively.Soak the fabric in a bucket of strong black coffee. This technique is also a good way to cover-up an irremovable coffee stain on a white table cloth.

+ Fertilize a garden or houseplants. Work coffee grounds into the topsoil.

+ Repair scratched woodwork.Mix a teaspoon instant coffee with twoteaspoons water.Apply to the scratch with a cotton ball.

+ Start a charcoal fire.Remove the top and bottom of an empty
coffee can and punch a few holes in the sides of the can. Stand
the can in your barbecue grill, fill it with charcoal briquettes, add lighter fluid, and light. When the coals glow, remove the hot can with tongs and set in a safe place.

+ Prevent dampness in closets.Fill an empty coffee can with
charcoal briquettes, punch holes in the plastic cover, and set on the floor in the back of the closet.

+ Repel ants.Sprinkle dried coffee grounds outside doors and
cracks.Coffee deters ants.

+ Relieve a hangover.Drink a couple of cups of coffee. Coffee
acts as a vasoconstrictor, reducing the swelling of blood vessels that causes headache.

+ Spread grass seed or fertilizer.Punch holes in the bottom of an empty can of coffee, fill with grass seed or fertilizer, cover
with the plastic lid,and shake the can as you walk through your garden.

+ Transport live fishing bait. Keep worms in a coffee can filled
with moist coffee grounds.

+ Keep toilet paper waterproof while camping. Carry a roll of
toilet paper inside an empty coffee can.

+ Protect baby tomato plants. Remove the top and bottom from
coffee cans, place a can over each plant, and step on the can to
set firmly in the soil. Remove cans when plants are a few weeks
old.

+ Grow better melons.Raise melons off the ground by resting them on top of upside-down empty coffee cans pushed into the soil. The metal cans accumulate heat, making the fruit ripen earlier and
repelling insects.

+ Keep paintbrush bristles from bending while soaking in solvent.Put solvent in an empty coffee can,cut an X in the plastic lid, and push the brush handle up through the slit so the brush hangs in the can rather than resting on its bristles.

+ Highlight brown or red hair.Rinse your hair with coffee for a
rich and shiny color.

+ Deodorize the refrigerator and freezer.Place a bowl filled with coffee grounds on the back shelf.

+ Patch woodwork.Mix dry instant coffee with spackling paste
until you achieve the desired brown tone, fill the crack or hole,
and smooth with a damp cloth.

+ Clean a restaurant grill.Pour left-over brewed coffee over a
hot or cold grill and wipe clean.

+ Wrap cookies and candies.Cover an empty coffee can with
wrapping paper, fill with cookies or candy, cover with the plastic
lid, then wrap.

+ Cover spots on black suede.Sponge on a little black coffee.

+ Make emergency lights.Wrap reflector tape around a couple of
empty coffee cans and store in the trunk of your car for emergencies.

+ Make stilts...String rope through holes punched in the closed
ends of two empty coffee cans.

+ Store nails, screws, bolts, and washers coffee cans make perfect storage containers.

+ Improvise a Jell-O mold.Use an empty coffee can.

+ Store cat box filler in the trunk of your car for emergencies.
Cat box filler, stored in empty coffee cans, can be used for
traction under the wheels of a car stuck in snow or ice.

+ Flavor spaghetti. Add one-quarter to one-half teaspoon of
instant coffee to spaghetti sauce. Coffee gives store bought
spaghetti sauce brown coloring and a less acidic flavor.

+ Some folks add a sprinkle of coffee as a secret CHILI
ingredient (as well as a dash of cinnamon).Guess it's no longer
a secret.Chili-weather is fast approaching. [Big Grin]

Rated G PSA From "A Friend"

Please take the time to read this. I know you are smart enough to know these pointers but there will be some, where you will go "hmm I must remember that".

After reading this, forward it to someone you care about. It never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we livein.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do!

2.Learned this from a tourist guide toNew Orleans. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse,DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse.RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping,
eating, working, etc.,and just sit (doing their checkbook,or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you,and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go.AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR,LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot,or parking garage:

A.) Be aware:look around you, look into your car,at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.

B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are
attempting to get into their cars.

C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.IT IS
ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.
(And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs.(Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

|8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point Fwd: Crying Baby Someone just told me  that  her friend heard a crying baby on her porch thenight before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her "Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door."

The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawlto the street and get run over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by  women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night. Please pass this on! and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby. This e-mail should probably be taken seriously because the Crying Baby theory was mentioned on America's Most Wanted this past Saturday when they profiled the serial killer  in Louisiana.

I'd like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys,if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc.,you may want to pass it onto them, as well. Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it's better safe than sorry.

Friends are angels who lift us up when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.

Save on booze by drinking cold tea instead of whiskey.

The following morning you can create the effects of hangover by
drinking a thimble full of dish washing liquid and banging your
head repeatedly on the wall. [Big Grin]

What You Can Do With Vodka

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with
vodka.The solvent dissolves the adhesive.

2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a
trigger-spray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and
mildew.

3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft,
clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans
the glass and kills germs.

4. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and
letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after
shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.

5. Spray vodka on vomit stains, scrub with a brush, then blot dry.

6. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.

7. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo.The
alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and
stimulates the growth of healthy hair.

8. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle with vodka and spray bees or wasps to kill them.

9. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water in a Ziplock
freezer bag, and freeze for a slushy, refreezable ice pack for
aches, pain, or black eyes.

10. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed
lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly
and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

11. Make your own mouthwash by mixing nine tablespoons powered
cinnamon with one cup vodka. Seal in an airtight container for
two weeks. Strain through a coffee filter. Mix with warm water
and rinse your mouth. Don't swallow.

12. Using a q-tip, apply vodka to a cold sore to help it dry out.

13. If a blister opens, pour vodka over the raw skin as a local
anesthetic that also disinfects the exposed dermis.

14. To treat dandruff, mix one cup vodka with two teaspoons
crushed rosemary, let sit for two days, strain through a coffee
filter and massage into your scalp and let dry.

15. To treat an earache put a few drops of vodka in your ear. Let set for a few minutes. Then drain. The vodka will kill the
bacteria that is causing pain in your ear.

16.. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your
chest and back as a liniment.

17. To cure foot odor, wash your feet with vodka.

18. Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting.

19. To remove cigarette smoke in your home or office mix one part vodka and three parts water and spray the clothing, then launder and let dry.

20. Pour vodka over an area affected with poison ivy to remove
the urushiol oil from your skin.

21. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth. Allow your gums
to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain.

After reading this, can you believe that some people drink the
stuff?

I say...Stick with Gin. [Smile]

If garbage workers in your community ever go out on strike, you might like to know how a wise New Yorker disposed of his refuse for several days when sanitation workers were on strike.

Each day he wrapped his garbage in gift paper. Then he put it in a shopping bag. When he parked his car, he left the bag on the front seat with the window open. When he got back to the car, the garbage had always been collected. [Big Grin]

If you use your microwave to boil water, read this:

A 26-year old man decided to have a cup of coffee. He took a cup of water and put it in the microwave to heat it up (something that he had done numerous times before).

I am not sure how long he set the timer for,but he wanted to bring the water to a boil. When the timer shut the oven off, he removed thecup from the oven.As he looked into the cup, he noted that the water was not boiling, but suddenly the water in the cup "blew up" into his face.

The cup remained intact until he threw it out of his hand, but all the water had flown out into his face due to the build up of energy. His whole face is blistered and he has 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face which may leave scarring. He also may have lost partial sight in his left eye.

While at the hospital, the doctor who was attending to him stated that this is a fairly common occurrence and water (alone) should never be heated in a microwave oven.

If water is heated in this manner, something should be placed in the cup to diffuse the energy such as a wooden stir stick, tea bag, etc.,(nothing metal). It is however a much safer choice to boil the water in a tea kettle.

GENERAL Electric's RESPONSE:

Thanks for contacting us,I will be happy to assist you. The e-mail that you received is correct.Microwaved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the boiling point. They can actually get superheated and not bubble at all.The superheated liquid will bubble up out of the cup when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into it.

To prevent this from happening and causing injury,do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup. After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds before moving it or adding anything into it.

Here is what our local science teacher had to say on the matter:
"Thanks for the microwave warning.I have seen this happen before. It is caused by a phenomenon known as super heating. It can occur anytime water isheated and will particularly occur if the vessel that the water is heated in is new,or when heating a small amount of water (less than half a cup). What happens is that the water heats faster than the vapor bubbles can form.If the cup is very new then it is unlikely to have small surface scratches inside it that provide a place for the bubbles to form.As the bubbles cannot form and release some of the heat that has built up!,the liquid does not boil, and the liquid continues to heat up well past its boiling point. What then usually happens is that the liquid is bumped or jarred, which is just enough of a shock to cause the bubbles to rapidly form and expel the hot liquid. The rapid formation of bubbles is also why a carbonated beverage spews when opened after having been shaken."

If you pass this on ... you could very well save someone from a lot of pain and suffering

HEADS UP EVERYONE!

Be aware of new car-jacking scheme.(This could also be used as a ploy for kidnapping)

Imagine:You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside;you lock your doors, start the engine and shift into REVERSE;you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space and notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So,you shift into PARK,unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper(or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.

When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car jackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off!!Your engine was running,(ladies would have their purse in the car)and they practically mow you down as they speed off in your car.

BE AWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED EXTENSIVELY.

JUST DRIVE AWAY AND REMOVE THE PAPER LATER.(and be thankful that you read this email!)

I hope you will forward this to friends and family especially to women! A purse contains all identification, and you certainly do NOT want someone getting your home address. They already HAVE your keys!!!!!

Stop neighborhood dogs from ripping your trash bags apart

I used to have a big problem with this and one night decided to try something a little different. Once you have your trash bags at the street corner ready for pickup the next morning, spray some Raid on the bags. Even if you have fresh food in there, the dogs will ignore your bags and attack everyone else's. No more trash all over the lawn!

I have done this for a couple of years now with 100% success. [thumbsup]

Handy cleaning tips:

Layers of dirty film on windows and screens provide a helpful filter against harmful and aging rays from the sun.Call it an SPF factor of 15 and leave it alone.

Cobwebs: Artfully draped over lampshades reduce the glare from the bulb, thereby creating a romantic atmosphere. If someone points out that the light fixtures need dusting, simply look confused and exclaim, "What? And spoil the mood?" (Or just throw glitter on them and call them holiday decorations.)

Pet Hair: Explain the mound of pet hair brushed up against the
doorways by claiming you are collecting it there to use for stuffing hand-sewn play animals for underprivileged children.(Also keeps out cold drafts in winter.)

Guests: If unexpected company is coming, pile everything unsightly into one room and close the door. As you show your guests through your tidy home, rattle the door knob vigorously, fake a growl and say,"I'd love you to see our den,but Fluffy hates to be disturbed and the shots are SO expensive."

Dusting: If dusting is REALLY out of control, simply place a showy urn on the coffee table and insist that,"This is where Grandma wanted us to scatter her ashes."

General Cleaning: Mix one-quarter cup pine-scented household cleaner with four cups of water in a spray bottle. Mist the air lightly.Leave dampened rags in conspicuous locations.Develop an exhausted look, throw yourself on the couch and sigh,"I clean and I clean and I still don't get anywhere."

As a last resort: Light the oven, throw a teaspoon of cinnamon in a pie pan and explain that you have been baking cookies for a bake sale for a favorite charity and haven't had time to clean... Works every time.

Another favorite: ( I think from Erma Bombeck) Always keep several get well cards on the mantle so if unexpected guests arrive, you can say you've been sick and unable to clean. [Big Grin]

ATTORNEY'S ADVICE--NO CHARGE

Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice!

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.

1. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks.

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks.(DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards. Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(s)ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more.

But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

1. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call.Keep those where you can find them.

2. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc.were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all :(I never even thought to do this.)

3.Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number.I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then,no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away. This weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, etc has been stolen:

1.) Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

3.) Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):1-800-269-0271

We pass along jokes on the Internet; we pass along just about everything. But if you are willing to pass this information along, it could really help someone that you care about. [Smile]

This only applies to cars that can be unlocked by that remote button on your key ring. Should you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are home, and you don't have "OnStar," here's your answer to the problem!

If some one has access to the spare remote at your home, call them on your cell phone (or borrow one from someone if the cell phone is locked in the car too!)

Hold your (or anyone's) cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the phone.

Your car will unlock. and it works.

Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.

Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk, or have the "horn" signal go off, or whatever!) [Smile]

Lint filter in dryer

Something of Interest to you ALL.

I had a wonderful morning, THEN, the heating unit went out of my dryer! Why does everything seem to fall apart this time of year!?

The guy that fixes things went into the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. We always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes. He told us that he wanted to show us something. He took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it.Now,this thing is like a mesh -I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like - WELL......the hot water just laid on top of the mesh!!! It barely dripped through it at all!!!

He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh and that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months.

He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long and uses A LOT LESS ELECTRICITY!

How about that???!!!! Learn something new everyday!

I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!

Here's a handy hint...if you ever run out of toothpaste (like I did today) you can brush your teeth with baking soda and a little hydrogen peroxide.

The only caution I would make is don't use the baking soda that's been sitting in your refrigerator for six months soaking up food odors.

I still can't get that taste out of my mouth. [Big Grin]

I can't keep up with thieves any more!

Your VIN#

Seems that car thieves have found yet another way to steal your car or truck without any effort at all.The car thieves peer through the windshield of your car or truck, write down the VIN # from the label on the dash, go to the local car dealership and request a duplicate key based on the VIN #.

I didn't believe this e-mail,so I called Chrysler Dodge and
pretended I had lost my keys. They told me to just bring in the VIN #,and they would cut me one on the spot, and I could order the keyless device if I wanted.

The Car Dealer's Parts Department will make a duplicate key from the VIN #,and collect payment from the thief who will return to
your car.He doesn't have to break in,do any damage to the
vehicle,or draw attention to himself. All he has to do is walk up to your car, insert the key and off he goes to a local Chop Shop
with your vehicle.

You don't believe it? It IS that easy.

To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some tape
(electrical tape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN Metal Label located on the dash board.By law,you cannot remove the VIN,but you can cover it so it can't be viewed through the windshield by a car thief.

I urge you to forward this to your friends before some other car thief steals another car or truck.

I slipped a 3 x 5 card over the VIN # [Smile]

I'm going to try the stove top and see if what is claimed, turns out to be true. I've certainly never thought of WD 40 smell as a pleasant aroma to have around the house. Here it all is anyway, for what it's worth.

Subject: Fw: Uses for WD-40
Keep a copy of this for all your cleaning needs.

THIS IS REALLY WORTH MAKING A COPY !!!!!!

There's also a little book out of all the ways to use WD-40. - I thought that you might like to know more about this well-known WD-40 product. When you read the "shower door" part, try it. It's the first thing that has cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. It's a miracle! Then try it on your stovetop...It's now shinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.

The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a "water displacement" compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40.The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their Atlas missile parts. The workers were so pleased with the product they began smuggling (also known as "shrinkage" or "stealing") it out to use at home. The executives decided there might be a consumer market for it and put it in aerosol cans. The rest is history. It is a carefully guarded recipe known only to four people. One of them is the "brewmaster." There are about 2.5 million gallons of the stuff manufactured each year. It gets its distinctive smell from a fragrance that is added to the brew. Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing inWD-40 that would hurt you. Here are some of the uses:

. ~Protects silver from tarnishing
· ~Cleans and lubricates guitar string
· ~Gets oil spots off concrete driveways
· ~Gives floors that 'just-waxed' sheen without making it slippery
· ~Keeps flies off cows (now that one really interests me! Do they slip' off?)
· ~Restores and cleans chalkboards
· ~Removes lipstick stains
· ~Loosens stubborn zippers
· ~Untangles jewelry chains
· ~Removes stains from stainless steel sinks
· ~Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill
· ~Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing
· ~Removes tomato stains from clothing
· ~Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots
· ~Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors
· ~Keeps scissors working smoothly
· ~Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes
· ~Gives a children's play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide
· ~Lubricates gear shift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers
· ~Rids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises
· ~Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open
~Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close
· ~Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards and vinyl bumpers
· ~Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles

· ~Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans
· ~Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons and bicycles for easy handling
· ~Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly
· ~Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools
· ~Removes splattered grease on stove
· ~Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging
· ~Lubricates prosthetic limbs
· ~Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell)
· ~Removes all traces of duct tape
· ~I have even heard of folks spraying it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain.
· ~Florida's favorite use was "cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers
· ~The favorite use in the state of New York -- WD-40 protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.
· ~WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time. It's a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose.Keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are not allowed in some states.· ~Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately, and stops the itch.
· ~WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag.
· ~Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 and rewash. Presto! Lipstick is gone!
· ~If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start.(If I knew what a distributor cap was, it might help)
· ~WD-40, long known for its ability to remove leftover tape mung sticky label tape), is also a lovely perfume and air freshener! Sprayed liberally on every hinge in the house, it leaves that distinctive clean fresh scent for up to two days!
· ~Seriously though, it removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor! Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn't seem to harm the finish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks.
· ~Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! Use WD-40!

· And the beat goes on............... [Big Grin]

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

A true story:

Susie stumbled and fell. Her friend, Sherry, saw this happen. Being very concerned, she had the insight to ask Susie the 3 questions below.

Suzie failed all three test-questions, so 911 was called. Even though she had normal blood pressure readings and did not appear to be suffering a stroke (she could converse to some extent with the Paramedics) they took her to the hospital right away. Susie suffered brain damage after a massive stroke, but is recouping at an incredible pace .

So simple - this literally saved Susie's life - Some angel had previously sent this advice to Suzie's friend and she followed it exactly.

Read and Learn the 3 steps!

A stroke occurs when oxygen fails to reach some part of the brain. Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim will ( - WILL! -) suffer brain damage if people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke, and take action. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking the victim three simple questions:

*Ask the individual to SMILE.

*Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

*Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE coherently (e.g. "It is sunny out today").

If he or she has trouble with ANY of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness / arm weakness / and speech problems, researchers now urge the general public to learn the three questions. They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Association's annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.

A cardiologist says that if everyone who gets this email sends it to another 10 people, you can bet that at least one life will be saved !

BE A FRIEND, AND SHARE THIS ARTICLE WITH AS MANY FRIENDS AS POSSIBLE.

It could save their lives. A stroke changes the lives of all family and friends around the victim, for years afterwards.

Amazingly simple home remedies.

1. If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto. The blockage will be almost instantly removed.

2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.

3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by simply using the sink.

4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.

5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough.

7. Have a bad toothache? Smash your thumb with a hammer and you will forget about the toothache.

Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are:

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.

If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance.

And finally, be really nice to your family and friends; you never know when you might need them to empty your bedpan. [Big Grin]

Fix a dent in wood furniture (not a gouge) by placing a drop of water in the depression, covering the spot with a damp cloth, then applying a hot iron to it for several seconds. The dent should pop up after one of two steaming. [Big Grin]

Smells nice, doesn't it ?

Put ALL "citrus" remains (skins, rind, etc.) in garbage disposal rather than trashcan.
This gets 2 things done at once; it alleviates trash can build - up and leaves the disposal with a fresh, clean scent... ORANGES are particularly good for this!!!

Did you know this about vodka?

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with
vodka. The solvent dissolves adhesive.

2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger-spray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew.

3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs.

4. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.

5. Spray vodka on vomit stains, scrub with a brush, and then blot dry.

6. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.

7. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and stimulates the growth of healthy hair.

8. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle and spray bees or wasps to kill them.

9. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water in a Ziploc freezer bag and freeze for a slushy, refreshable ice pack for aches, pain or black eyes.

10. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

11. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your chest and back as a liniment.

12. To cure foot odor, wash your feet with vodka.

13. Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting.

14. Pour vodka over an area affected with poison ivy to remove the oil from your skin.

15. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth. Allow your gums to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain. [Big Grin]

HOW TO NEGOTIATE SUCCESSFULLY FOR THE SALARY YOU WANT

Introduction

The biggest problem all interviewees experience is the knotty problem of worth. Most employers want what you have to offer. The trouble is they don't want to pay for it. Don't be put off by this. They have to pay for it and they know it - they just don't want to!! Of course it seem to be an even greater problem if you are coming from a position of being unemployed.

With that as background, one needs to enter into the salary negotiations with a degree of sensitivity, backed up by a good dose of determination. Diplomacy and tact are important. You don't want to lose a great job because you appear greedy. What you are after is a fair return on your investment into their business - or a fair day's pay for a fair day's work.

The Rules of Negotiation

The starting point for all salary negotiations is unspoken. It will rest in the quality of your resume which must be put together to reflect your true worth. This is why it's so important to address your entire skill base to see what added value you can bring to the company over and above fulfilling the job description. You must also address the success you have had, which is why our questionnaire goes into so much detail over these questions. Even if you have been unemployed, you have still had successes in life. It doesn't matter that you weren't in employment at the time. These are important pointers to your worth to a potential employer and will also form the basis of the questions you'll be asked at the interview. You will therefore have plenty of opportunity to elaborate on your achievements and you should take the opportunity with both hands and exploit it. A well prepared resume can add 10% - 15% to the salary the company is prepared to offer - this based on the quality of the resume alone.

It goes without saying that the way you present yourself at the interview will have a marked effect on all negotiations, whether about salary or anything else. If you look scruffy and unwashed you'll be doomed no matter how capable you are. These points might seem obvious, but they all impact on the outcome you want. You have to play to their rules, not yours. Remember the old maxim - "You only get one chance at a first impression." Actually this is not quite true with a job interview. Here you get two chances. The first is the resume which will lead to the forming of an impression before you personally have been met. The second is the meeting, which MUST back up and reinforce the original impression, or even improve upon it.

Part of your interview preparation must be to research salary levels and salary ranges for the job you're applying for. Don't be satisfied with a simple answer. You need to check whether there are variations across different industries too. Go to your interview armed with this information so that you know the boundaries of your negotiations, that is to say, the minimum to accept and the maximum to ask for.

Another source of important advice is the recruitment or employment agency you have used (if you have used one that is!). There are three reasons for this.

1. They should know the going rate for the job.
2. The employer will have indicated to them what they are prepared to pay.
3. Agencies are often paid a percentage of the first years salary, so it's in their best interests to get you as much money as possible!

Now that you are armed with the ammunition for your negotiations, you need to sell yourself. Selling yourself is no different from selling widgets. And the same buying truisms prevail. People buy from people they like, and this will often over-ride price. Go to the interview prepared in every aspect. Be prepared to talk about your work, your family, your political attitudes, everything. But above all make them like you, and make them believe that you will add value to the company. In other words, you will be worth more to them than the amount they pay you. It is very important to understand that. Think about what you will generate and be ready to show them if the opportunity arises. Help them to understand that if they pay you X you will help increase turnover to Y - or whatever is an appropriate measure for the effect you will have on the business.

There is always more than one way to achieve your aim. Be flexible and you'll get what you want. You don't want to lose the job because of greed any more than the employer wants to lose the right employee through meanness. If you don't appear to be getting what you want, talk about starting salary and a review in three months with a view to an increase. Consider bonus payments too. Go to the interview armed with a number of solutions. Above all, don't put yourself in the position of having to think on your feet on the day. You will always come off the worse in those situations. Should that unfortunate situation arise, ask for time to think and say you'll get back to them within twenty four hours.

Salary and Benefits

Remember that you can be paid in both cash and kind and taken together, that is your total remuneration package. Consider the following negotiating points alongside a basic salary.

1. Company car
2. Health Insurance
3. Pension Scheme
4. Vacation package (though it's best not to talk about days off at your interview!!)
5. Bonus schemes

All the above can be used to increase the benefit to you, without it necessarily costing the employer much. Assuming that the tax disadvantages do not outweigh the financial advantages, a company car is normally of far greater worth to you than what it will physically cost the company to provide it.

Have you been made Redundant?
Have you been out of work for some time?

Please don't feel you have to accept a lower salary than the norm just because you may be coming from a position of redundancy or unemployment. Your worth is your worth, and your worth is a combination of you personally and the added value you bring to the business. Redundancy or unemployment should not impact on that at all. If you allow a lowered self-esteem which may have sprouted from this situation to lull you into accepting less than is fair, it will breed resentment and that will reduce your ability to give your best to your new employer.

The Salary Negotiations

At some point in your interview you will be faced with one or two inevitable questions. The right approach to both is essential if you are to succeed in your expectations.

* "How much did you earn in your last job?"
* "What salary would you be looking for were you to be offered
this position?"

Let's take each question in turn.

How much did you earn in your last job?

The utmost caution is required at this point. Most people move jobs to progress in their careers and to get more money. Your own reason may be one or both of these, but perhaps you are coming from a position of unemployment. In any event, you don't want to disadvantage yourself by being strapped to what you used to earn, unless you are only looking for a small increase in earnings. Your employer may well try to give you a salary linked to your last one rather than pay the rate for the job. If you were unemployed he might try to pay you the bare minimum he can get away with. Don't let this happen.

If you were unemployed or if there is a big difference between what you were earning previously and what you want now - 15% or more, then take evasive action! Put the answer on hold, and be bold about it. Negotiations are two way affairs. Not only are they interviewing you for a job, but you are interviewing them to see if you want to work for them also. Never forget that. You should say that you would prefer not to answer that question at the moment until you have a fuller understanding of the responsibilities and expectations of the job you are applying for. Say that you don't believe you would be comparing like with like and therefore what you were earning before is not relevant at this juncture. Whatever happens don't just give them your basic salary. Add everything you can to it, every possible benefit and give them the grossed up amount - but not until it suits you to do so.

Of course if you have not been earning you cannot answer the question. It may be obvious from you resume that you have been unemployed - but in any event that has no bearing on what you should be paid now. You should expect the market rate for the job. Because you've done your research before going for the interview, you will know what that is. Don't accept a penny less. Know what you're worth and hang out for it. If they want you, they'll pay for it. Of course you will have to start at the lower end of the salary scale, but never at less than that.

What salary would you be looking for were you to be offered this position?

You should have done your research on the salary ranges offered and therefore be in a position to give an informed answer. Unless you really are a top-notch prospect, don't pitch in at the top of the scale, but somewhere in the middle of the range. Speak to the recruiting or employment agent and ask their advice. You don't have to accept it, but they might have been given an indication by the employer of what they are willing to pay the right candidate. If you have been unable to determine the salary range beforehand, now is the time to ask the interviewer that question.

Now be bold. Refer them to your resume and experience and begin to tell then what you believe you're worth. Say, "You will see from my resume that I am very experienced in this field (or whatever) and I know I will add value to your business. I judge myself to be well worth X and I would be looking at least for this amount." The way you approach this could add thousands to your package so be bold and confident, but not cocky.

A word of warning - do not answer this question until you feel satisfied that they have the measure of your worth and that you have a complete understanding of the job on offer. If the question is asked too early in the interview, use the same delaying tactic as referred to earlier and say you would rather postpone answering until you have a better feel for the full responsibilities and expectation attaching to the position.

There is of course one further problem area and that is for a newly created post. What do you do then? Well in many ways it is just the same. Do your research on salary ranges across industries. Discover what others are being paid so that you have a basis for negotiation. It may well be that the employer is not too sure what the salary should be either. Perhaps the role will develop, and the job description change with experience. One solution is to agree an initial package and then agree to review it upward say in three or six months. Whatever is agreed, make sure it is in writing and incorporated into your contract of employment.

Summary

In summary, you must enter the interview phase as an equal party to the negotiations. Both sides need to see whether they like the other and can work together. Salary negotiations are also a two-sided affair. The employer wants your labour, skills and experience. In return you want some of his money. Turn the whole thing on it's head and ask yourself this question: If the employer were to say, "I'll pay you X, what are you prepared to give me for that?", you begin to see there are two sides to the negotiation. If you are offered a miserable amount of money, be prepared to say you'll accept it, but you'll only work three days a week! That should make the point that you are no fool and know what you're worth!! Seriously - there are clearly two sides and each must honor the other fairly. Don't allow all the balls to be in the employer's court where they so often seem to be left.

Be well prepared, clean, tidy, polite, diplomatic, forthcoming, focussed and determined. Enjoy the interview and may each side feel they have won.

And finally you might like to read this:

The 10 Commandments Of Salary Negotiations
By WALTER S. KELLER (Source = http://www.salaryexpert.com The Salary Expert)

While exploring new career options, I asked two neighbors who had made recent job changes what percentage pay increase they received. I was surprised when one told me 39%. When the second said his new salary was 46% higher, I realized that increases in job changing weren't limited to the 5% to 10% usually given for internal promotions and cost-of-living raises.

My neighbors did me a great favor. They opened my eyes to the truth in this statement: You can negotiate anything. Here are my 10 commandments for negotiating a new salary.

1. Research your profession's salary range. Check with recruiters in your field (even if you don't pursue their leads), competitors, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook, the Internet, your local chamber of commerce and trade publications.

2. Select a target salary or total pay. You may not get the amount you want, but having a specific objective can help you get close.

3. Don't initiate salary discussions. Wait for the interviewer to bring the subject up, even if it's postponed to a second interview.

4. When asked for your salary requirements, say that they're "negotiable." Do the same on applications by writing "negotiable" in any box asking about salary details. If the form asks you to provide current salary, write, "to be covered during interview." This isn't being evasive, because without knowing details about benefits, how could you select a salary figure?

5. When asked for your salary requirements, reply by asking the interviewer to share the position's salary range. If your request isn't granted, excuse yourself politely and leave. (Would you want to work for a firm that won't respond to this legitimate request?)

6. Discuss benefits separately from salary. Your list of benefits can include insurance, tuition reimbursement, relocation payments, stock options, bonuses and outplacement upon termination.

7. Analyze all benefit packages with a family member or friend, or with an insurance, investment or bank professional. They'll provide you with an invaluable second opinion and may look at the offer more objectively.

8. Consider the cost of living if you're moving to a new area, and if it's higher, suggest that you be paid a differential.

9. In discussing why you deserve a substantial increase, use examples of your accomplishments that prove your value, not merely your experience. Comparisons to your current salary are irrelevant and should be avoided; you're talking about the benefits you'll bring, not your past salary, which you may have had no control over.

10. Always assume a firm's first offer is negotiable and never accept an offer at the interview. Express your strong interest, but state you always discuss decisions of this magnitude with advisers whose judgment you have relied upon for years. Tell your interviewer when you'll contact him or her with your decision.
By following these commandments, you'll increase your chances of receiving a pay increase well into the double-digits.

MAKING THE UNWANTED UNREADABLE

If you don't have a paper shredder, and you have a large number of papers that you want to make unusable by someone that might discover them in your rubbish, just soak them for several hours in soapy water; remove them and then wad them into balls of mush and discard with your other rubbish.

INTERESTING INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS

I had a wonderful morning, the heating unit went out on my dryer!

The guy that fixes things went in to the dryer pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. We always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes. He told us that he wanted to show us something.

He took the filter over to the sink, ran hot water over it. Now, the lint filter is made of a mesh material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like.

WELL......the hot water just sat on top of the mesh!!! It didn't go through it at all!!!

He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire potentially burn your house down with it!

He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very Long time (& to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with hot soapy water & an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months.

He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long.

How about that???!!!! Learn something new everyday!

Note: I went to my dryer & tested my screen by running water on.

The water ran thru a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water & a nylon brush & I had it done In 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it the water ran right thru the screen!

There wasn't any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESSBOOK. NOT ONLY COULD IT SAVE SOMEONE'S HOME, BUT IT COULD SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE.

WATER

1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

4.! One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzz short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

And now for the properties of COKE:

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous China.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.

9. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

For Your Info:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about
4days.

Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup(the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass of water?

Add Fitness to your Daily Routine.

If you find you can't devote enough time to getting in shape as you would like, there are still plenty of ways you can keep your body active while going about your normal routine.

Try to use stairways instead of elevators whenever possible.

If you can walk there or take a bike, let your body burn energy instead of taking your car.

If you are driving, instead of wasting time looking for a good spot, park further away and walk a couple extra blocks.

Turn your housework into a fitness challenge: Sweep and mop using as much energy as possible, exaggerating your arm movements.

Fold your clothes and do a couple sets of squats at the same time.

Whatever you're doing try and incorporate in some sort of routine that gets your muscles working and heart rate moving.

And if you absolutely can't miss your favorite show on TV, try doing some sit-ups and push-ups while you watch or during commercials. [Smile]

Learning from failure

You've failed many times, although you don't remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim. . . . Don't worry about failure. . . .

Worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try.

Bits about Bacon

Keep bacon from sticking together in the package by rolling the package into a tube and holding it for a minute. The slices will loosen up and come out of the package one at a time.

**************************

Bacon won't curl up while cooking if you put it in ice-cold water before frying it. Just dip it for about 5 seconds, pat it dry with a paper towel, and pop it in the pan. You'll get flat bacon. [Big Grin]

Photocopy the content of your wallet and save time later!

Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc., so you will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call to cancel.

Keep the photocopy in a safe place. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed using your name, address, SS#, credit, etc. To limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know. As everyone always advises, cancel your credit cards immediately, but the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them easily.

File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where it was stolen, this proves to credit providers you were diligent, and is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one). But here's what is perhaps most important: (I never ever thought to do this) - Call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and SS#. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

The numbers are:

Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271

Equifax: 1-800-525-6285

Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

How to clean a disc:

Do you ever have a CD or maybe a DVD that just stops, then plays, stops in another spot? Maybe you have rented a DVD and that happened to you so you just took it out, returned it to tell them what happened, got your money back for it.

Well guess what people, THIS is how to clean those "stops" on the CD or DVD's.

First you need a soft cloth, NOT a paper towel, napkin or tissue, but a SOFT cloth. Something that will NOT scratch the disc.

Next you need some rubbing alcohol. That is something most every household probably has anyway.

If you don't have it, go to the store and buy at, it'll cost you under a dollar to buy. I bought a small spray bottle (also under a dollar) to pour the alcohol in.

Spray the alcohol on the side that plays, then gently wipe it off with the soft cloth. This will clean off the finger prints left on it or any other deposits that made the disc stop.

This has worked for me, so go ahead and try it. Why not, you have nothing to lose, right? [Big Grin]

The Banana

After Reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at a banana in the same way again!

Bananas Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose

combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial

boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough

energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the

number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the

only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or

prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must

to add to our daily diet.

Depression:

According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering

from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is

because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body

converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and

generally make you feel happier.

PMS:

Forget the pills -- eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates

blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:

High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the

blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:

This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt,

making it the perfect way to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food

and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make

official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood

pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:

200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their

exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid

to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed

fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation:

High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel

action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers:

One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana

milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with

the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk

soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn:

Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from

heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness:

Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and

avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites:

Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area

with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful

at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:

Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work?

Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work

leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at

5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely

to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid

panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by

snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:

The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders

because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that

can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also

neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of

the stomach.

Temperature control:

Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both

the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand,

for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):

Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking:

Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they

contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the

body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress:

Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends

oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are

stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels.

These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:

According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine," eating

bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by

as much as 40%! So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills.

When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the

carbohydrates, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and

iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium

and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that

well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!" [Big Grin]

Owners should brush pets' teeth

TULSA, Okla., -- Many U.S. pet owners don't know they should be brushing the teeth of the their pet dogs and cats.

Some 80 percent of dogs and cats show some signs of oral disease by age 3, the American Veterinary Dental Society said.

Periodontal disease begins with plaque build-up on tooth surfaces. As a result, bacteria can be- gin to irritate the gum, causing an inflammatory condition called gingivitis. If inflammation of the gum is left un- treated, the bone around the roots of teeth can begin to deteriorate. As the bone tissue is destroyed, teeth may become loose or fall out, and eventually the infection has the potential to damage the pet's heart, liver or kidneys. "It's vital for owners to routinely check their pets for dental trouble spots," said Ken Capron, a veterinarian at Capron Veterinary Hospital and Dental Clinic for Pets in Tulsa, Okla.

"In addition, dental cleanings, annual check- ups and proper nutrition are crucial in preventing serious problems down the road." [Smile]

How many of these did you know about?

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap.
The envelope can then be resealed.

Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords.
It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

For icy door steps in freezing temperatures : get warm water and put Dawn dishwashing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze. (wish I had known this for the last 40 years!)

To remove old wax from a glass candle holder, put it in the freezer for a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The wax will fall out.

Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).

Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on with a paper towel.

Whenever I purchase a box of S..O.S Pads , I immediately take a pair of scissors and cut each pad into halves.
After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads,I finally decided that this would be much more economical. And now a box of S..O.S pads last me indefinitely! In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get sharpened this way! (Once you use the S.O.S. pad - freeze it in a container. When you need it again, run it under hot water, and when you finish -back into the freezer, until you finally have no more suds. You will never deal with a rusty pad again)

Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time! Now, where to put the body? LOL!

Use vertical strokes when washing windows outsidea and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks.. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.

Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb, in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on.

Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linens.

Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning.

Clean artificial flowers , pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop.

Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won't be any stains.

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness.

Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

Don't throw out all that leftover wine : Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces. (Leftover wine? What's that?! [Smile]

To get rid of itch from mosquito bites , Try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.

Ants, ants, ants everywhere .... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

When you get a splinter , reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle.Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily. Elmer's glue works well too.

Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer.

Clean a toilet. Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China.

Clean a vase. To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.

Polish jewelry. Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.

Clean a thermos bottle. Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).

Unclog a drain. Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water. [Big Grin]

Also, about the garlic planted with roses. That also works great for any plant that tends to attract bugs! Every time I plant a flower or bush, I also plant a clove of garlic with it. Did you know that if you get a blister, or small cut, you can bruise a garlic leaf and put it on the “owie”, cover it with a Band-Aid and it heals faster? Garlic is great stuff! You can also chop a clove of garlic very fine, soak it in boiling water, strain, then spray the liquid on plants to get rid of bugs, or to keep all animals away from it. Health tips

Hand-Washing

Washing your hands may seem rather unsophisticated compared to today’s medical advances, but it works. Washing your hands reduces the rate of bacterial and viral infections by 1/3 to ˝, and gastrointestinal infections by 80%. “Frequent hand-washing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of infectious disease,” say the Centers for Disease Control.

You should wash your hands before, during, and after food preparation; before eating; after using the bathroom; and after touching pets, animals, or waste of any kind. To wash your hands: apply soap and rub your hands together vigorously for 10-15 seconds not forgetting under your finger nails, rinse and dry your hands after. [Big Grin]

WD-40

I thought that you might like to know more about this well-known WD-40 product.

When you read the "shower door" part, try it. It's the first thing that has cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. It's a miracle!

Then try it on your stovetop... Viola! It's now shinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.

The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a "Water Displacement" compound.
They were successful with the Fortieth formulation, thus WD-40..

The Corvair Company! bought it in bulk to protect their Atlas missile parts.

The workers were so pleased with the product they began smuggling (also known as "shrinkage" or "stealing") it out to use at home.

The executives decided there might be a consumer market for it and put it in aerosol cans. The rest is history. It is a carefully guarded recipe known only to four people. One of them is the "brew mas! ter." There are about 2.5 million gallons of the stuff manufactured each year. It gets its distinctive smell from a fragrance that is added to the brew. Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you.

Here are a few of the 1000s of uses:

~Protects silver from tarnishing
~Cleans and lubricates guitar strings
~Gets oil spots off concrete driveways
~Gives floors that 'just-waxed' sheen without making it slippery
~Keeps flies off cows
~Restores and cleans chalkboards
~Removes lipstick stains
~Loosens stubborn zippers
~Untangles jewelry chains
~Removes stains from stainless steel sinks

~Removes tomato stains from clothing
~Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots
~Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors
~Keeps scissors working smoothly
~Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes
~Gives a children's play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide
~Lubricates gear shift and mower - deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers
~Rids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises
~Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open
~Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close
~Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards and vinyl bumpers
~Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles
~Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans
~Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons and bicycles for easy handling
~Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly
~Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools
~Removes splattered grease on stove
~Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging
~Lubricates prosthetic limbs
~Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell)
~Removes all traces of duct tape
~I have even heard of folks spraying it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain. ~Florida's favorite use was "cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers
~The favorite use in the state of New York
~ WD-40 protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.
~WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be catchin! g the big one in no time. It's a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. Keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are not allowed in some states.
~Keeps away chiggers on the kids
~Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately, and stops the itch.
~WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Sp! ray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag.
~Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 and re-wash. Presto! Lipstick is gone!
~If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start. (If I knew what a distributor cap was, it ! might help)
~WD-40, long known for its ability to remove leftover tape smudges (sticky label tape), is also a lovely perfume and air freshener! Sprayed liberally on every hinge in the house, it leaves that distinctive clean fresh scent for up to two days!
~Seriously though, it removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor! Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring.! It doesn't seem to harm the finish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks.
~Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! Use WD-40!

Oven a mess and you either don't have oven cleaner, or you don't like the harshness of an oven cleaner? Pour one cup of ammonia in any non-aluminum bowl. Place it in a cold oven on one of the racks and close the oven door. Leave it in there overnight. The fumes of the ammonia will soften baked-on food. The next morning, wipe with a damp cloth or sponge... [Big Grin]

So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping. [Big Grin]

How to Fight a Traffic Ticket

One minute you’re cruising down the highway making record time on your commute, and the next you’re pulled over on the side of the road with the flashing lights of a police cruiser in your rear view mirror. Were you really guilty of the crime? Since you are innocent until proven guilty, here is how you can try to beat that ticket.

Steps

Be polite and cooperative when you get pulled over. Being belligerent or indignant may make you feel better but it might cost you more. By being polite and cooperative, the officer may just write your ticket for a less costly offense instead of what was actually committed and with luck, you might just get a warning! On the other hand, if you are nasty or curt, the officer may note this and the prosecutors will be less likely to cut you a deal if this went to court.
Avoid admissions of guilt and never make excuses or create outlandish stories. When you are asked if you know why you were pulled over, just respond with a simple and polite, "No officer, I do not,". Keep in mind that honesty is the best policy especially when you prefer to get off with merely a warning. On the otherhand, if you do get you the ticket, and decide to contest it, remember that any admissions you make now, can be used against you later.
Follow one of the two theories regarding how you question the officer.

Adopt the 'low-profile' technique. Ask the officer if you can handle the ticket by mail. The officer will immediately see you as a low probability to go to court and may take fewer notes. When you do challenge the ticket, the officer's sparse notes will make him want to skip the hearing. Even if he does come to the hearing, his sparse notes and memory will help the judge decide in your favor. Questioning the officer on the other hand will cause him to write voluminous notes on the traffic stop.
Alternatively, question the officer more directly, as you are handed the ticket, about how the offense was detected and verified. In the case of a speeding ticket, find out where they were positioned when they clocked you and what type of speed measurement device, was used and if it was radar, laser or Accutrac. Gather as many specifics as possible, including the serial number of the device. If, however the officer estimated your speed by following you, then find out what the location was when he began to follow you. Make sure you write down the patrol car's license plate number and his badge number. If you were cited for an offense other than speeding, make sure you understand exactly why you were pulled over, especially if you were cited for something that could not have been easily seen.
Check your ticket for accuracy by reviewing it immediately upon receipt. There are two considerations here:

If there are inaccuracies that may hurt your case (i.e. if the officer notes on the ticket that you crossed two lanes of traffic when you only crossed one, or if he says traffic was heavy when in fact it was light), ask him immediately to correct them. Be very polite when requesting changes to your ticket. However if you find that the officer is not accommodating, do not argue but record the actual circumstances in your mind, and after he leaves, jot it down.
On the other hand,if there are inaccuracies that may help your case or get the ticket dismissed, such as the wrong license plate number, the wrong street, etc., you do not want to call attention to them.

Begin preparing your defense immediately, once the police officer has given you your ticket and left the scene. Record relevant details, such as traffic and road conditions, weather, time of day, and any extenuating circumstances. If you have a cell phone with a camera take pictures, especially if your defense depends on something like an obscured speed limit sign or a huge pothole that you had to swerve to miss. Go to the officer’s original position (whether stationary or moving) and check for any obstructions that might have caused them to have a poor view of the alleged offense or that might have caused the radar to malfunction. Make a diagram of the road showing where the officer was positioned, which direction you were traveling, where you eventually stopped, and other important details.

Read the fine print on the ticket after you get home, as there is useful information on there that might help you. Make sure you understand all of it, as it will give you instructions on how to proceed to the next step.

Decide whether to fight the ticket by the circumstances involved, and the information on the ticket. Weigh the costs and benefits of contesting the citation.

Find out exactly what offense you are charged with by looking at the code number on the ticket.

Find out what the cost of conviction will be, including the fine, jail or community service, mandatory diversion programs, and increased insurance rates.
Calculate the cost of fighting the ticket and weigh it against the chances of getting it dismissed or reduced to a lower charge.

Decide whether you will need a lawyer. Find out whether or not the jurisdiction where you received the ticket or were involved in an accident will allow you to have a lawyer for a hearing on a traffic ticket that cannot lead to a criminal conviction for either driver (criminal convictions are for DUI, felony hit and run, etc.) This information will be on the ticket. If you plan a civil suit against the other driver in an accident, your attorney can come to court to observe the hearing on the ticket, but may not be involved in the hearing.
For most minor traffic violations, it might not be cost effective to retain an attorney. Some exceptions include a ticket you received while far from home—an attorney can handle your case without you having to travel to court—or a ticket issued by photo enforcement (in many jurisdictions, if you’re not in the court room, there is no way to prove that you were the driver, and the case will be dismissed). You should, however, hire an attorney for more serious infractions, such as DUIs.

Request a trial. Your ticket may include a court date, or you may need to request a trial. For most minor violations, your ticket will also give you the option to pay the fine. In almost all jurisdictions, paying the fine is an admission of guilt, so do not remit payment. Instead, follow the required steps to get your day in court.
Get as much information as you can. Well before your court date, send a written request for discovery—discovery is the legal notion that you are entitled to see all the evidence against you and other relevant information that the prosecutor may have that can help or hurt your case—to the prosecutor’s office (in some jurisdictions, you may need to file a motion for discovery for the judge to consider). In addition, you may be able to file a public records request for relevant information. Some things you’ll want to specifically request (and you generally must make specific requests) include the officer’s copy of the ticket, maintenance and calibration records for any speed monitoring or breathalyzer device that was used by the officer to charge you, and the officer’s training records and certifications. The exact nature of your case and your plan of defense will dictate the exact information you need to get.

Try to cut a deal.

In many places, you can request a pretrial conference with the prosecutor. This is an opportunity to plead to a lower charge or get a reduction in points or fines before you go to court. Sometimes you can make an appointment for sometime before the court date, while sometimes you can only meet with the prosecutor right before your hearing. Always consider any deal thoroughly, and make sure you understand the implications on both your driving history and your insurance costs.
Consider traffic school. Many jurisdictions offer an option to attend traffic school. In return, your charges will be dismissed or reduced. Explore this option by researching the law in your state. If you find that traffic school is a good option, request it from the prosecutor or judge.
Request a continuation of your hearing. In most jurisdictions, the police officer who gave you the ticket must show up for the court hearing. If he or she fails to show, your case will be dismissed. Many times officers will schedule many court hearings on a certain day so that they can appear for all of them at once. If you request a continuation (a change of date) you increase the odds that the officer won’t show up. You usually need to do this in writing, and typically you will need to make your request several days in advance of the scheduled hearing.

Plan your defense.

Once you’ve decided to go to court, make sure you know how you will argue your case. If there is a particularly egregious error on your ticket, you may be able to rest your defense on that, but minor discrepancies (such as the color of your car) won’t help you out. If your defense is based upon extenuating circumstances, make sure they are sufficient to warrant a dismissal. The judge will not be particularly impressed by “I was running late to work,” for example. Make an outline of your points, and make sure your evidence is well-organized.
Go to court and plead not guilty. Show up to your hearing looking clean and professional. If you have not yet had the opportunity to speak to the prosecutor, now is a good time to do so. Unless you are offered a satisfactory deal, plead “not guilty.” A plea of “no contest” or “guilty with explanation” will do you no good. Remember, just showing up to court may result in a dismissal if the police officer doesn’t also show up.

In Broward County, Florida, and perhaps in other places, if the officer does show up, change your plea to “no contest”; in most cases you will only pay court costs, with no points on your license and no traffic school necessary. There are many law firms in the area that will handle this for you for a reasonable fee, saving you the time and lost wages of going to court.

Use facts to present your case to the judge without admitting guilt. "I was only doing 57 in a 55." is an admission of guilt. "I was traveling at safe speed for the conditions." does not admit guilt. Politely and clearly explain your defense, entering evidence as necessary. In some cases (a malfunctioning stoplight or an obscured speed limit sign, for example) you may be able to admit guilt without harming your case.

Follow through with all the court’s requirements. Many times the judge will allow you to pay a fine without incurring the points on your license, or he or she will allow you to enter a diversion program. These arrangements and others can only benefit you if you follow through and complete the requirements in a timely manner. If you don’t, you will most likely be convicted of your original offense, and other charges may follow.

Request a copy of your motor vehicle record (MVR) from the state department of motor vehicles. Occasionally, clerical errors result in a dismissed ticket appearing on your MVR as a conviction. These can be difficult to clear up quickly (for example, when your insurer notices and raises your premiums), so it’s best to make sure you record is accurate.

Tips

The easiest way to beat a ticket is to Avoid a Traffic Ticket in the first place.

Consider recording the conversation during the traffic stop. An audio recording of your interaction with the officer can help you avoid a “he said/she said” situation in court—an argument you will almost certainly lose. Some states require that all parties be notified that they are being recorded, while others do not. Check the external links for more detailed, state-by-state information, and make sure you know the law in your jurisdiction before you record anyone without their consent.
If the officer relies on radar, ask to see the display of your speed on his radar unit. Often the officer has either cleared the result from is display or is fudging. This won’t lead to a dismissal by itself, and in some jurisdictions the officer isn’t required to show you the display, but discrepancies or lack of evidence may help as part of your defense.

Start preparing your defense immediately.

It can take time to get necessary information from police departments and prosecutors, so make sure you request this information well in advance of your hearing date. You’ll also need to be proactive throughout the process to keep on top of court deadlines and to ensure you have the most complete defense possible.

Often simply showing up in court to fight the ticket is enough because many times, especially in big cities, there is a high probability that the officer won't show up. If the officer won't show up, then the case is usually dismissed.

Remember the sixth amendment guarantees you a speedy and public trial. For example, in California, a speedy trial is defined as 45 days from the time of the infraction. In many jurisdictions you must go to the courthouse in person to get a court date. During this process you will have to fill out several documents. If your local court system is a backed up, then among those legal documents your are asked to sign, will be one in which you waive your right to a speedy trial. Do not sign that document. You cannot be legally forced to waive this right. What this means is that if the court system cannot fit you in, within those 45 days, (times for your state may vary) then your case must be dismissed.
In some states (including California) you are entitled to a trial by mail. This is the best option for beating your ticket. You submit your claim as to why you are innocent in a letter, and the officer must do the same. While officers will often show up for court because it is an overtime opportunity, trial by mail is pure paperwork, and they will often not bother to submit their side of the story. When this happens, you win by default. Should you lose by mail, you have lost nothing: you can still request an in-person trial (as if your mail verdict never happened), request traffic school, or pay your fine.
Your entire case can rest on your attitude, be on your best behavior inside and outside of the courthouse. Always show respect for the court and the proceedings. Win or loose, it is always best to thank the judge, you never know if you will appear in front of them again.

Most Radar guns need to be recalibrated every 30-60 days, and due to ignorance, lack of funding, or laziness, they are rarely. One solid arguement for your case is to prove that the measurment device is faulty.

NEVER KNEW THIS BEFORE...

I wonder how many people know about this?

A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and Totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore,Texas, she was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane
and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence!

When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know - NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON. She had thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain.

But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on and your car begins to hydro-plane -- when your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed and you take off like an airplane. She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred.

The patrolman said this warning should be listed, on the driver's seat sun-visor - NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe
speed - but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.

The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.

Adding honey to a warm liquid is going to cleanse your body if you are constipated, acting as a very mild laxative as your body absorbs what it requires from the honey to be more balanced.

1. Reheat Pizza

Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

2. Easy Deviled Eggs This is such a simple, yet great idea.

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

3. Expanding Frosting

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

4. Reheating Refrigerated Bread

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

5. Newspaper Weeds Away

Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

6. Broken Glass

Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

7. No More Mosquitoes

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

8. Squirrel Away
To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

9. Flexible Vacuum

To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

10. Reducing Static Cling I love this one!

Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -- ta da! -- static is gone.

11. Measuring Cups

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

12. Foggy Windshield?

Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

13. Reopening Envelope

If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside , just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

14. Conditioner

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair...

15. Goodbye Fruit Flies

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

16. Get Rid of Ants

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home," can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

17. INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS

The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over
to the sink, ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. well,...the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free -- that nice fragrance too, you know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well t his stuff builds up on your
clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire & potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (& to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with hot soapy water & an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He
said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!
How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!
Note: I went to my dryer & tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water & a nylon brush & I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn't any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK. NOT ONLYCOULD IT SAVE SOMEONE'S HOME, BUT IT COULD SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE.

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how the primates do it.

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simple chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.
Like there are ever any "leftover" Snickers bars...

ATTORNEY'S ADVICE - NO CHARGE

Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday.Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.

1.Do not sign the back of your credit cards.Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED".

2.When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card Accounts,DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3 Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home
phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a POBox, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have It printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do
both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to Call and cancel.

Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a Photocopy of
my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a Name, address,Social Security number, credit cards.

Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my Wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(S) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more. But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card Numbers handy so you know whom to call.Keep those where you can find them.

6. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent and this is a first step toward an Investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.)

7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your
information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert.Since then,no additional damagehas been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend(someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your
wallet, etc. since it has been stolen:

1.) Equifax: 800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 888- 397-3742

3.) Trans Union : 800-6807289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line): 800-269-0271

We pass along jokes on the Internet; we pass along just about everything.

If you are willing to pass this information along, it could really help someone that you care about. [Smile]

If you lose something on the carpet or floor, like an earring back, a contact lens, a needle or a pin or, heaven forbid, the diamond from your ring, you could spend ages on your hands and knees tring to find it.

To locate that errant item in a hurry, simply cut a leg from an old pair of pantyhose (or a kneehigh) and slip it over your vacuun cleaner head. Vacuum the floor and in no time at all that lost item will stick to the panty hose like glue. [Big Grin]

Cell phone tracking..... AMAZING!!!

It's getting so that you can't be anywhere without someone 'seeing' you! ...sort of SCARY

Don't put any dashes or spaces between your area code & numbers. (3805551212)

This is interesting... Just click on the link, enter someone's cell phone number, and the satellite map will show you where they are. It's called 'mobile phone tracker' and was first put to use to aid 911 responders. Using a satellite map, track any connected mobile phone with coverage anywhere in the world.

When your cookbook won't lie flat when opened on the counter, place a glass baking dish on the pages (you can read through the glass) or secure each side with a rubber band. [Big Grin]

Tips on Cleaning the House

DIRT: Layers of dirty film on windows and screens provide a helpful filter against harmful and aging rays from the sun. Call it an SPF factor of 15 and leave it alone.

COBWEBS: Cobwebs artfully draped over lampshades reduce the glare from the bulb, thereby creating a romantic atmosphere. If your husband points out that the light fixtures need dusting, simply look confused and exclaim "What? And spoil the mood?"(Or just throw glitter on them and call them holiday decorations)

PET HAIR: Explain the mound of pet hair brushed up against the doorways by claiming you are collecting it there to use for stuffing hand-sewn play animals for underprivileged children. (Also keeps out cold drafts in winter)

DUSTING: If dusting is really out of control, simply place a showy urn on the coffee table and insist that "This is where Grandma wanted us to scatter her ashes."

GENERAL CLEANING: Mix one-quarter cup pine-scented household cleaner with four cups of water in a spray bottle. Mist the air lightly. Leave dampened rags in conspicuous locations. Develop an exhausted look, throw yourself on the couch and sigh, "I clean and I clean and I still don't get anywhere."

If unexpected company is coming, pile everything unsightly into one room and close the door. As you show your guests through your tidy home, rattle the door knob vigorously, fake a growl and say, "I'd love you to see our den, but Fluffy hates to be disturbed and the shots are SO expensive."

Light the oven, throw a teaspoon of cinnamon in a pie pan, turn off oven and explain that you have been baking cookies for a bake sale for a favorite charity and haven't had time to clean.

Always keep several get well cards on the mantle so if unexpected guests arrive, you can say you've been sick and unable to clean. [Big Grin]

Coffee filters ..who knew! And you can by 1,000 at the Dollar Tree Or any other dollar store for almost nothing.

COFFEE FILTERS: Not just for making coffee....

1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.

2. Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.

3. Protect China . Separate your good dishes by putting a coffee filter between each dish.

4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.

6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.

7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.

13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, french fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. Soaks out all the grease.

14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."
