Taking in mind how crazy our industry can be at times I was wondering what most Head Projectionists and Managers have for there "normal" days off. I've noticed that most people have Mondays and Tuesdays off (for obvious reasons).

Being the GM/Projectionist (yes, one of those great manager run theaters!) I usually get Tuesdays and Wednesdays off but I am on call 24/7 incase anything goes wrong.

I used to get Tues. & Wed. off. But I worked a second job on Wed, so that wasn't really a day off.

Now, I hardly get an official day off. If nobody calls me during a weekend then I get the weekend off. But I have to be ready to go any time between noon and midnite.

Such is the life...

Heh, I'm a bum... I have three days off...

But I make up for it on the days I work!

~2 genuine doubles
~1 long closing shift
~1 long shift on Thursday

It always ends up being over 45 hours...

I'm off on Tue/Wed each week. Been that way for as long as I can remember. Mondays are booking days... Tue/Wed are the two days that I hope the pager doesn't blow up with the theatre number, but hardly a week goes by that I'm not paged one, if not both, of those days...

Sundays and Mondays. They are slow days and the relief can handle it. I'm on call of course in case of problems. One weekend every 5 or 6 weeks I take a Sat/Sun instead.

I've actually roped myself a killer schedule this time around. I have Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays off. The catch is, since our other guy takes care of makeups and breakdowns, etc, I'm pretty much the only person in charge of ensuring that all our equipment is running well, and doing a lot of maintainence. And because of that, I'm pretty much on call 24/7. Although, frankly, the way my life has been lately, I've been spending as much time at work as possible. It gives me a chance to relax from the rest of the crap I've got to put up with (if that makes any sense!!!!!!)

When I last was a booth operator, I worked
Tuesdays: figured out upcoming trailer changes
wednesdays: did as many trailer/ad changes as possible to reduce load on . . .
Thursday Nights: for all the obvious reasons
Friday Days if only to finish screening anything left over from the previous night
Saturday Nights

On call 24/7, even when "on vacation" what ever that is.

In my day, a projectionist NEVER had off on a weekend; too important to trust it to the relief help. The slowest days, Monday and/or Tuesday, was it. Also used to get paid on Mondays - cash in an envelope.

Like all my company managers, I'm off on Tue/Wed becuase I run full time matiness, year round. Otherwise, they get off on either Tue OR Wed.

I also get a weekend a month off, less June & December, all of which, I am allowed to pick, with the exception of Holiday weekends where business is expected to be up. Those are blocked out.

If I could get the hours I needed I would like to take those days off too. I generally have Sundays and Mondays off.

I deserve it for so many years of being at the end of that electronic leash that went off all the time because somebody didn't know how to change their printer paper 120 miles away from me or because they didn't know how to fix their projector and Aaron Sisemore was drunk playin' horseshoes at the DM's house.

Although I do leave and return home from some audits on weekends... lotsa fun.

Anyway -- rambling again -- to myself I suppose.

I'm always on call.

I work Monday - Thursday mornings (about 10am to 2pm) doing inspections and maintenance.

Sometimes I get special assignments (like the current wave of upgrades) where my hours are different. Or, maybe, when I have to travel to a remote location.

But, still, I will probably be the last one here complaining about days off.

Our company's policy during the school year is for managers to get Wednesdays and every other Sunday off. During the summer, that changes to every Tuesday and non-release Wednesday off.

In my days as a GM the days off were allways Sundays and Wedensdays... Mondays were allways for bookings... Tuesdays were for changes.. [Wink]

Thursdays - well to makes sure that prints were previewed and inventory was right, and that Fridays were without a single hitch.... The weekends are a time that a G.M. should be on the floor making sure that the patrons are satisfied, the shows should be without a hitch, the staff should be well backed up... christ I miss those days.... [beer]

When I was a projectionist: only one day a week, any day except tuesday and wednesday 'cause those days come the release prints.
Now my days off: saturday and sunday (but I have to go to the booths emergencies).
