I've been notified by my current Hosting service that they are discontinuing the "free" hosting services that they have been offering. Although I prefer a free hosting service for the time being , I'm not opposed to paying for the service. I figured if you can get a basic hosting package for free, why not take advantage of it.

Anyway, does anyone know of a good reliable hosting service that will let you do your own editing via an FTP transfer? Since I make changes to my site every time I book a client, I'd like to be able to edit my own site.

I've tried several other "free hosting" sites (Geocities,Bizland, etc.), but the mandatory banner ads were annoying. There's nothing like sending a client to your site which features a flashing banner ad inviting them to "Talk to Live College Coeds!!"

Any help would be appreciated.

You can try http://www.100megsfree.com
Free, but for a couple bucks a month, they will remove the banner ads. No MP3s, zips, or EXEs allowed. I've got a small page there for stuff unrelated to film. You can do web based uploads or ftp I think (I haven't tried there). It doesn't have the clunky interface that Homestead uses.

My pro host is http://www.burlee.com , which has good hosting (although not on linux) and was responsive to the one problem I had with a bad DNS database, (which wasn't their fault).
The fee is reasonable, reviews are good, and they are used by some big companies.

Barry, I use burlee.com also for my web site. I use lots of jpegs and have the "unlimited" options for about $13/month. Well worth it IMHO!
And they are so very helpful!! They took time to walk me through a problem I had and were not condescending
I've used them for a couple years now and have only praises to sing of them.
