Yes we are having a Drive-in boom here. The following article was in today's Sunday Herald-Sun (our local newspaper)
CLIC HERE
The demand is certainly there - parents have not stopped having kids and it is difficult to take a toddler to a cinema .
Meranwhile in the eastern suburbs sits a former drive-in site, almost complete (sans screen) with no less than 2 projection rooms and a snack bar fully complete. Yes the Wantirna Drive-in is crying out for new owner

Village and Hoyts have shown no interest thus far. Perhaps Readings would be prepared to open the site? Does anyone have Reading's Australian corporate email address?
cheers Peter

Interesting. One thing the writer didn't include is the problem with noisy audiences and cell phones in a hardtop, plus the hassle of parking and wondering if your car will be ripped off or damaged. Another possible factor is the development of the low light level videocamera and FM sound in drive-ins. I suspect a few drive-in customers may be getting personal copies of the film on video.
