sounds to me like a possable bootleg or something. I can't believe that they would already have dvd's on the market anywhere out there right now. If it is a descent bootleg then that is another example of how things or stolen right out of the film companies own backyard.

It is definitely a bootleg. My friend has a Star Wars Phantom Menace DVD from China. It is in Dolby Digital 5.1 but the mix is very wrong, especially considering that the dialog comes from the surrounds! The video quality is about that of videotape. It was probably copied from a VHS screener that the studios send out here and there. However, it WAS a stamped disc, not a DVD-R.

We have several bootleg copies of films on DVD that came from China. Overall very poor quality. Don't waste your time on them.

My dad went to the Phillipines on business and brought back a MPEG-1 video CD of "Space Cowboys" a week after it had been out in theaters. It was made by sneaking a camcorder into the theater, at the bottom of the screen you can see a couple people's heads in the audience! The sound seems like it was recorded directly from a hearing-impaired receiver plugged into the camcorder's microphone jacks, as I couldn't hear any external noise, not even laughing during the funny parts. It stops right when the end credits start, presumably so you don't see people getting up. I guess the way MPEG-1 video works makes the flickering less noticable, since shooting off a theater screen with a video camera gets you a flickery picture- not that I've ever done that myself, of course

Don't ask me how, but those camcorder MPEG-1 VCD's are usually telecine or telesync. Yes, the camera is just sitting in the auditorium, and you can tell it is from an extreme angle when text is on the screen and it appears diagonal in the VCD image. I saw a VCD and I could hear people's cell phones ringing. Then I hear the guy say to his wife (or whoever) "Can you tell whoever it is that I'll call them back?" All of the audio was recorded through the onboard camera mic. Oh yeah, and the image had the letters "NB" superimposed (with a crappy character generator) on the mid-left of the screen for the ENTIRE MOVIE!If you like crap, and you like your crap smelling really bad, then bootleg VCDs are the way to go!

I see he also has The entire Star Wars saga (oh, and that episode one thing as well).He has some pretty good feedback on what he's sold. I guess folks are just happy to say 'I've got Star Wars on DVD'...regardless of how shitty the quality is.

If it was copied from a release print or screening video, the MPAA should be able to track which print it came from.

My "Space Cowboys" bootleg is from that "NB" company and has the letters on the screen, though as I said the sound does seem significantly better than just recording it off the speakers with the built-in microphone. The pictures on the cover are pretty funny; the letter "O"'s in the title have little cowboy hats drawn on them!
