According to Slashdot, the end user license agreement that comes with at least some copies of Frontpage 2002 contains this restriction: "You may not use the Software in connection with any site that disparages Microsoft, MSN, MSNBC, Expedia, or their products or services, infringe any intellectual property or other rights of these parties, violate any state, federal or international law, or promote racism, hatred or pornography." Slashdot has more.Don't talk bad about MicroSoft. If you do and you use their crappy Frontpage software, they will get you. Say only good things about MicroSoft.

This makes me proud to say that I use "vi" to develop my WWW sites. I either use "vi" to write and manipulate html pages directly, or I ue "vi" to write Perl code (or code in some other language) which produces html from data (which was likely typed in with "vi").Take that, Microsoft!
For those of you who don't know, "vi" is the "Unix text editor from hell" that UNIX users love to hate.

Where will Microsoft go next with this? Will they say that you cannot use a machine running any version of Microsoft Windows to create any type of electronic content in the categories they had listed in the Frontpage license agreement, and include such a clause in the license agreement of every Microsoft operating system and software package? It would be tough to enforce, but once they get their foot in the door, .......Brad, "vi" is tough to learn and use if you're not already used to it. I hated it from 1986 until 1991. I got good enough with it in 1992 to use it well. This does not mean it took me 6 years to learn it. I used it one semester in 1986 and used it for the next time in 1991, then began having to use it for C programming under UNIX.
Remember, UNIX is user-friendly. It's just picky about its friends.

It's just one of those things that UNIX people understand. If you're not one of us, you just won't get it.
When you want to do something and you think about it is by putting together a bunch of UNIX commands in a nice creative command, like
cat `find . -name "010927-1.txt" -print | grep -i redifer"` | Mail -s "Hey Joe" `cat ~/global/email/joe_redifer/email`
then you're in. If you think, "I'll try to find that message that someone sent me earlier today in Outlook that I want to send to Joe and I'll just click "Forward" and send it to him", then you're not. The above example is a bit more extreme than I'd actually use except in strange circumstances.

I used to know this guy, Richard Stallman, who is the one who pretty much "invented" GNU. (Insofar as ONE guy can invent such a thing.)He actually SPEAKS Emacs!
It wouldn't be uncommon for him to speak something like the string you give above. What's even freakier, is that other people actually UNDERSTAND him. It's like they are speaking Chinese to each other.

FrontPage 2002? No thanks. I've already tried earlier versions and HATED IT. It is one of the most designer-unfriendly applications out there. I would just as soon use Microsoft Word to do professional graphics work as use FrontPage to design a website. Their warnings against "disparaging comments" are a non-issue.Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe GoLive are the best solutions.
