Just wondering if anyone knew where I could get a wav file of pink noise at 0db. Need to attempt to get my computer slightly balanced and all... Any pointers where would be great, I would just record my own but my sampling rate sucks on my sound card, and the recording end is very very noisy. Thanx people

0 db? Hmmmmm. Sounds kind of high. If you just want to balance it, a 1khz tone should do.

I don't know if there's a standard CD.. I sort of thought different people feel you should record record at slightly different levels. Also the gain of different sound cards would vary, too.

I admit though .. I'm guessing. Paul is right; 1khz would do for simple balance.. usually pink noise is for EQ'ing, not balance.

Sorry guys, probably should of been a little bit more specific, I want to get a general eq setup for my computer - not perfect but I want a basic flat eq (well as much as possible) for my speakers. I guess that I could just upgrade to a soundblaster live card or something of the like, but then again, I could allways just get a 1.7 gig thunderbird and load the crap out of that... ahhh to dream.

Hey Brad!!!! That was Awesome!!!! Thanks for that rock 'n roll demo!!!! rotfl I'm glad that I had my volume down when I started that puppy up! In all honest thanx though for the pink noise, I will make sure I pass that huge wav. file on to my "music loving" friends, they will surely get a kick out of it.

The awesome sound demo is far more awesome then you let on! It's 176KB per second (notice the big "B" in "KB"... if you use a little "b" then you are talking bits not bytes and must be referring to an MP3) since it is an uncompressed stereo WAV file. Now that is AWESOME! Digital is ALWAYS perfect! If you look "digital" up in the dictionary, the definition is simply "perfect".

That pink noise is way too quiet! I can barely hear it! I must turn my volume knob up to 2 or 3 o'clock just to enjoy the pink noise! Also, it stops halfway through and then starts again! I don't like interrupted listening! I know I can easily import it into a sound editor and delete the silent part, but I'd rather you did all the work. Fix these two things and you'll have an excellent listening experience... perfect for parties or just listening to while driving the car!

I just listened again on my home system, and now really appreciate the awesomeness of this digital masterpiece. Absolutely beats any theatre sound system I ever heard. Analog doesn't even come close.

Well, I downloaded the demo of Brad's, and I burned up a Vu meter in my mixer board. I also fed it into a Collins FM exciter (with dummy load) that I am trying to fix for a friend of mine, and it smoked the cathode resistor of the RFPA! Jeeze.....what a sound.

Wow! Joe, by the looks of your picture, that must have been a lot of Budweiser you were feeding yourself!

Brad, I am going to ask a question Steve Guttag asked me. What is the signal-to-noise ratio of pink noise? And, how do you know if you have a noisey switch on your pink noise generator?
