Here I sit watching MSNBC with another pit in my stomach. This is same pit I felt 12/08/80. George died of cancer Thursday afternoon with his family at his side at 1:30pm. Here is the link to the story on MSNBC.com

I heard it this evening on the BBC World Service while I was driving home. I shut the radio off and playe a Beatles CD for the rest of the drive.Whadda' ya' say everybody in the world agrees to play a Beatles (or a George Harrison) song at 12:noon the day of his funeral. That'd be a cool idea.
What song should it be?

A sad loss to the world. RIP.Not so long ago I was sat with some friends in a pub, next to us were sat a group of much younger people, I knew a couple of them as they were younger siblings of friends of mine. Somehow or other, as is the way of conversations in pubs, we got onto the topic of could you remember where you were when you heard that John Lennon had been murdered. Most of us could, but one of these youngsters turns round and says 'who was John Lennon?' I was genuinely speechless.

Dave,While My Guitar Gently Weeps is actually quite timely. If I remember correctly, it was one of the few songs George sang lead on. I think it's a nice way of remembering him.

I'm playing "Everest" right this moment and in 2 minutes "Here Comes The Sun" will play over the ending credits. GH did some of the music for the film.

I am very very sad by his departure. Rest in peace. To add to the film there was Harrison's handmade films produced "Monty Python's Life of Brian" He also appeared in Eric Idle's 1978 Beatles parody "The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash."

I believe an appropriate GH song would come from the Sgt. Pepper album..."Within You Without You"I can't imagine anyone that grew up with Beatle songs not being terribly saddened by the passing of George. From all accounts, he was a fine human being that tried to make the world a better place for all while not ruining it for others.
Rest in peace George, you are already being missed.

One of my favorite things as a child was listening to my parents Beatles records. I would play "Here Comes The Sun" and "Come Together" over and over. Goodbye George, we all will miss you.

As a tribute to George Harrison, the County Theater in Doylestown PA is showing A Hard Day's Night starting tomorrow. Pic will play last show each night plus a Saturday morning kiddie matinee.A Hard Day's Night also will run 12/27-29 in the "Greatest Hits" series at the Film Forum in New York.
Keith: You must have worn out your parents' LP copy of "Abbey Road". I wore out my older brother's 8-track copy.

Bringing this back from the dead for a timely release.
The Concert for George opens Friday (10/3). It's a filmed record of a benefit concert with many of George Harrison's cohorts, held on the first anniversary of his death. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne are among the musicians; Eric Clapton is the musical director.
Many Regal/UA locations that run art product are playing The Concert for George (though, surprisingly, not the UA Union Square in NYC).
