Jar, Jar, Jar: 'N Sync's "Clones" Cameo

At last, someone has stepped in to replace Jar Jar Binks as
the target of derision from Star Wars fans the world over.

Brace yourselves: The boys of 'N Sync will have a cameo in
the upcoming Star Wars: Episode II--Attack of the Clones.
A Lucasfilm spokeswoman confirmed what Star Wars fan
sites had been buzzing about for days, saying the fivesome
will appear briefly in a "big scene."

(Breathe, people, breathe.)

There are two different stories as to how this shocking
development occurred. The New York Post reports that
George Lucas' adopted daughters, Amanda and Katie, are
huge fans of the popster supergroup, so he cast the boys
as Jedi knights. The Post says they appear in the
background of the film's climactic battle scene, before
getting blown up by "battle droids."

Lucasfilm rep Lynn Hale, however, says that, while Lucas'
daughters are big fans, "that didn't have anything to do
with it." Hale says Justin, Lance, Joey, JC and Chris were
big Star Wars fans, so they asked producer Rick McCallum if
they could appear in the latest installment.

McCallum apparently found a spot for them, in "a big scene
with lots of extras." But Hale says they have no dialogue,
and they won't even be credited as extras when the film
hits theaters May 16.

Still, the mere blip of an appearance by the Pop stars has
set off a firestorm of talk on Star Wars Internet message
boards.

"Please no. George, no. Please. Anything but the boy
bands. Please," wrote one fan in a discussion on Star Wars
news Website TheForce.Net. "Jar Jar I could handle. Not
this."

Other fans, however, were actually willing to give Lucas the
benefit of the doubt--assuming that any cameo with the 'N
Syncers would be so brief that they wouldn't even be
noticeable.

"If they're just in the background, I don't see what it would
matter," writes another fan, known as Silac5. "Now, if they
were to start having synchronized lightsaber battles and
spontaneously bust out in song, then I would have to walk
out of the theater."

At first, it appeared the 'N Sync news was just another
twisted rumor--conjured up by the same Star Wars geeks
who have claimed that Celine Dion is singing the theme for
Attack of the Clones and that Van Halen planned to record
an instrumental score for the film.

This time, the rumor turned out to be true, and Lucasfilm
confirmed it after tabloids in London and New York
published stories on the cameos. Truth, it seems, is
stranger than fiction.

Ugh! (Think Lucas will digitally alter Lance Bass' expression since Lance doesn't seem to be able to? Oh the horror of the memories of "On The Line" return!)

They forgot to mention that Michael Jackson will reprise his role as "Captain EO", and slay Jar Jar in an epic musical dance battle near the end of Episode II.

His song, "We Are Here to Change the World" has being rewritten with the new lyrics, "We Are Here To Kill The Gungan"

This is an absolutely reliable rumor, and is not to be questioned.

At least "Captain EO" was shot on 65mm film, with 3D 70mm dual strip projection.

BTW, "Captain EO" was directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1986, with George Lucas as the executive producer. It played for many years at the Kodak "Journey Into Imagination" theatre at Disney World, as well as other Disney theme parks around the world.

Actually this horrible thing has pretty much been confirmed. They say 'nsynch were dressed in jedi clothing shot from a distane getting killed. Then again, maybe not such a bad thing.

And people say the Internet isn't good for anything. Thanks to the public outcry caused by recent news that boy band N'Sync would be appearing in Attack of The Clones George Lucas has dropped the scene, forever consigning it to cutting-room hell.

As rumours of the band's appearance spread across the globe, fans screamed in terror and ran to their keyboards to lodge their protests online. And while this is hardly an unusual occurrence, the powers that be seem to have taken note. N'Sync's Joey Fatone announced on Florida's Carson Radio Show that the scene had been dropped due to the uproar and didn't sound too pleased about it either. "I'm going to make it officially known they dropped it because people made a big deal about it," he told the show. "We're not going to be in it and I'm not going to comment on it any more."

So there you go, if enough outraged fans band together and use the force for a righteous cause, there's nothing they can't accomplish.

So why is is that George listens to the people and cuts out N'Sync, but he won't listen to people screaming over that damned Jar Jar creature?

I sort of thought the whole thing was simply a way to get younger teenagers interested in seeing the film, especially girls who usually are not into science fiction. In other words, a way to make more money. Now that it is apparent including N Sync may hurt the film's image, GL dropped it. Which makes me feel that, sadly, GL will forget his art to make money.

Actually, just earlier tonight on aint it cool, they posted a quote from an interview from another site (its on their frontpage) that said the Nstink scene hasnt been cut out yet. so who knows where it'll end up.

Did anybody see Saturday Night Live this past weekend? They did a skit/routine of GL and the boys of N'Sync. It was great!! My wife didn't get it, but because of my reading this thread, I was rolling laughing in bed.

They even had a choreographed dance number with light sabres....

Every film-techer should have seen that!

Personally, I believe that sometime between Episode 6 and Episode 1, George Lucas lost it. I mean, I think he might be around the bend, off the deep end, however you want to characterize it. There is no other explanation for Ep 1, selecting the title "Attack of the Clones", or now this n'Sync debacle. I also think he's surrounded by yes-people. "Yes Mr. Lucas, putting 'nSync in your movie is a GREAT idea!" "Yes Mr. Lucas, the kids will just LOVE that Jar Jar character!" "Yes Mr. Lucas, having everyone call Annakin "Annie" is BRILLIANT!"

I think some people who claim to despise the character secretly identify with him, but they can't say that publicly or they would be revealing some kind of humiliating "personal truth" about themselves.
