I had heard Hollywood Theaters was one of many theater circuits languishing in bankruptcy court. They have closed down several theaters here in Oklahoma but still operate a few locations, one location being here in Lawton that I absolutely hate.The Carmike 8 is my favorite theater around here, but Carmike Cinemas is also in bankruptcy and going over lots of paperwork with a bankruptcy judge over which cinemas need to close and which ones need to stay open.
Lawton is horribly over-screened right now. There are 28 first run screens in three locations, and 1 bargain house. All for a city of just over 100,000 in population. Since the Carmike and Hollywood Cache 8 are within three miles of each other they cannot play any of the same films on day and date occaisions. The Central Mall 12 can pretty much book what they want (although this new theater does a generally poor job in show quality).
Anyway, the old Cache 8 theater is hardly doing any business (most people are going to the mall theater) and I am curious about when or if this place might close down anytime soon. It is doing a great job as a spoiler for the Carmike location in stealing away so many good films. It's money numbers are not nearly as good as they should be. So I am seriously concerned the Carmike 8, a fine theater location, might wind up on the judge's hit list for closing.

Hollywood got bought a long time ago by Wallace.

Yes, I realize Wallace Theaters (I think they are based in Honolulu) bought the Hollywood chain a couple years ago. Still, Hollywood Theaters are branded with the Hollywood name and not Wallace.The Cache 8 Theater here in Lawton even has Hollywood Theaters branding, but you would never know since the street sign has had major portions of its sign face blown out and in disrepair for nearly a year now.

I too have wondered why they continue to call themselves Hollywood. In Killeen, Texas they opened up a 14 in Dec.'99. This was after Wallace had bought Hollywood, but the new theatre is a Hollywood. I know that Hollywood has a little bit of a name in the towns they are already in, but at least in Killeen they shut down all but one of their old theatres when they opened up the new one. I just thought it was weird to call it Hollywood, but have Wallace cups and uniforms.

I didn't know they had Wallace cups and bags... that's interesting. I'm sure they might be worried about changing the name people are used to hearing... so now instead of it just being a Hollywood Theatre in whatever town, it's the Wallace Theatres Hollywood 12 or what have you... Much like it's the AMC Quail Springs 24...I think Wallace is still based out of Lake Tahoe, CA -- or did they move? I know they have a lot of theatres in Hawaii and the Pacific Rim... but the ones I had been to in California... not that nice of theatres.

Scott Wallace Theaters (Wallace Theatre Corp) is HQ'd at 919 SW Taylor, Portland Oregon, in the very same office and using the same personnel as TOM MOYER THEATERS.

I once worked for Hollywood.. For 6 weeks... Actual quote from a Hollywood GM, talking about scratched prints and how Hollywoods 4 year old 8 screen with 8 scratched prints was better than my 30 year old 4 screen that hadn't scratched a print in years:, "The customers don't care about those. They don't see them. All they want is cupholders and short concession lines."
