Russell Crowe is a passable actor but a despicable human being therefore best actor will go to Denzel Washington who is an excellent actor and a good human being.

I finally saw "Training Day," and I agree Denzel Washington put in a very powerful (and different) performance. I can't recall him ever playing a bad guy in the past, especially a bad guy this scary. It would be kind of cool to see him win since this is not his usual "hero" role. One thing on his side is a lot of experience and making Hollywood studios a lot of money over the years.

Russell Crowe despicable? I don't know the man personally, but anyone who would help bust up a 10+ year marriage in what only amounted to be a f**k thing does seem more than a little morally vacant. But I really have to say Meg Ryan is a freaking idiot for rolling the dice on the guy. Nevertheless, Crowe will likely walk away with his second statue regardless of his morals. But hey, some fault in this goes to ourselves. We make the American culture one where it pays to be bad and even despicable. Bad people seem more interesting and sexy than boring good people. I'm not even going to go into "Nice Guy's Disease" here. But you get the idea.

Back to predicitions, I'm still hoping Rene Zellweger gets the Oscar for Best Actress even though the award looks like it will go to Halle Berry. At least Ian MacKellan look like he might go home with an Oscar for LOTR. Ben Kingsley's fierce role in "Sexy Beast" is also award worthy.

we sound like the freakin' press with the gossip and judgments. I believe in looking at thier performance. I personlly don't care who slept with who and whos a prick and whos not. I consider myself a prick of a certain degree, but don't care if anyone else thinks so. People do thier thing and I do mine. Anyway long live Film and those who get to play with it. Cheers.

You turned out right on your prediction, but saying Russell Crowe is a "passable actor" is like saying New York has a "passable crime problem". And to pass judgement on the character of two people that, unless I'm mistaking, you've not grown to know well is a "passable error". Russell Crowe seems like most average Americans. Heck, we even elected one of them Presidet a few years back.

Russell Crowe is actually Austrailian, but putting that aside, it certainly may be much to judge someone on their bedroom activities and it is true many Americans feel Bill Clinton's thing was not very important.

Still, that doesn't make it okay to for people to carelessly wound others in serving their own selfish needs. And I think most average Americans feel this way. If very public, high profile figures such as Bill Clinton or Russell Crowe don't want people making snap judgments on their character, then they need to be a lot more discrete about how they handle their private lives.

Russell Crowe's performance in "A Beautiful Mind" should be judged only for what is on screen and not in the tabloids. With that being said, Pete Rose needs to be put in Baseball's Hall of Fame already. It's not like he smoked crack or something (actually he would be in the Hall of Fame if he was busted for drugs instead of gambling).

All controversy aside, I'm glad Denzel Washington won for "Training Day". His performance was the best out of the nominated ones I have seen. I still haven't seen "In the Bedroom" though, and most say Tom Wilkinson's performance was exemplary.

New Zealand claims him as he was born here.
Oz claims him as he lives there.
I don't care, I enjoy watching him act & as I don't socialise with him on a regular basis can't comment on himas a person.
He works in U.S.

I was a bit confused to see "For the Birds" winning best animated short. Most people saw it attached to Monsters, Inc, but i saw it last year in the "Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Animation Festival" along with another short, "Rejected", which was nominated for last years awards. I thought only current year's works were eligible.
