Well, what is the final count? My calendar gives May 4th as the date, so we've passed the 5/1/02 deadline... is someone holding out on us, or did I miss something...

Besides, I just can't wait to find out how wrong I was with my guess of 35!

I don't think we can have an accurate count until it opens on May 16th.

I talked to Ted. The count is still unofficial. He will post it as soon as it is set in stone.

Maybe the count will go down some. I just talked to a theatre manager here in Denver who has the capability of running Star Wars with DLP, but it was canceled last minute due to George's "20 week contract." Is there really a 20 week agreement?

Landmark/Seven Gables here in the Emerald City has apparently passed on Ep. 2 due to terms.
We hear the Seattle Cinerama is going to have a 35 print running for 2 weeks, then switch to the video.
The 35 will run on an 86 foot wide screen and the video on 45 foot wide sheet.
That should keep the Seattle fans happy!

That 86-foot screen has almost four times the area of a 45 foot screen!

I bet that any of the first three "Trilogy" Star Wars films would have deserved and been given the "Splendor of 70mm" on that big sheet!

US/Canada Digital Screens? Worldwide?

US/Canada 35mm Film Screens? Worldwide?

US/Canada 70mm Film Screens? Worldwide? (I think I already know this answer )

Will the THX or StarWars.com website list all the Digital Cinema locations?

When you post the final DLP count worldwide, be sure and also include the final FILM count worldwide so we can see the mass percentages.

Speaking of 70, my brother-in-law remembers being a wide-eyed kid in '77 when his dad took him to see the original at a palace in London Ontario (Odeon or Fox?). They had just installed Dolby and were running 70mm his dad kept reminding him. Sad. Theatre's gone and there's not one print in 70...

If this list is correct, then the US total appears to be 52.

Unfortunately, this list is not very useful, as many of the theatres listed are multiplexes which are likely to get more than one "print," yet the auditorium number for the DLP-capable screens is not listed.

I was really surprised at some of the listings. Yuma, Arizona has a theater with digital projection? I lived there when I was kid (my father was stationed at the Marine Corps air station there), and Yuma had no more than 30,000 or 40,000 residents. I doubt if it has anywhere near 100,000 residents like Lawton where I live.

And then Big Spring, TX? That's another surprise.

I heard on the radio that a theatre near Saginaw, MI is the only one with a digital projection showing of SWEP2 in the State of Michigan. Saginaw, MI is much smaller than Detroit, Flint, Lansing,etc. I would think that there might be 50-60,000 people there but i might be wrong.

I heard a rumor that AMC Framingham was losing Ep II in DLP due to an issue over alcohol...fandango seems to lend a bit of credence here, by showing Loews BC with it, but not AMC Framingham (though it's still on starwars.com). Any chance you could comment?

I was looking at the showtimes for the theatre in Michigan showing SW in DLP, they are showing their 35mm print twice as much as their DLP print. Wonder why if Lucas said the theatres with DLP will be grossing much more than the ones with 35mm. Seems like the theatre would be showing more DLP than 35mm.

Of the four in the uk, the Odeon Leicester Square is to be expected, as are the two in Birmingham and Manchester. There is another cinema eqipped somewhere in the West End of London, the Warner, I think, which does not seem to be showing the film. The big surprise is the new installation in London, the Ritzy, Brixton.

This is an interesting place, I haven't been there for several years, but used to live just a couple of miles away. It was one of the very early purpose-built cinemas, about 1910, with typical barrel-vaulted ceiling, seating had dropped somewhat over the years, to about 300-400, I think. It had various names, and closed in the 1970s, as the Classic. It was very run down at this time. A few years later it re-opened as an independant, first as the 'Little Bit Ritzy, then simply the Ritzy. It remained in this form, as a partly art house, partly mainstream type venue. It had something of a cult status, and was famed for its home-made carrot cake. A few years ago it closed, for major refurbishment, and for several more screens to be added in a new build on a site next door which used to be part of Brixton Library. I think it is now owned by Oasis Cinemas, but I am not certain about that.

This is one of the last venues which I would have expected to get this equipment. Does anyone have any details? Have they bought it? Is it on hire? Is it permanent? Is it just for this one film? How much of the other programming they show would be available in digital form at this time?

I think I may be taking a bus ride to Brixton.

Hello Adam,

Cinema Hollywood is located beside I-75 at the Birch Run Exit. It is across I-75 from the Outlet Mall.

I have seen the Cinema Hollywood booth and the DLP system. John is correct they have 2 35mm screens and the Digital. (There is a 35mm projector with print stored on a platter beside the DLP)

Digital projection 12:15 3:05 6:00 8:45 11:35 (Fri Sat only)

35mm 1:15 4:05 6:55 9:45 (Looks like 1 screen in today's ad)

Their phone number is 989-624-FILM(3456)

This is a temporary install as the new theatre in Troy is not built yet. The other DLP is in Southfield, MI

the control panel on the laptop looks just like a VCR with stop run pause rewind(?) and Fast forward The still frame is awesome.

The 6K Xenon lamp runs constantly and only goes to reduced power when the dowser is closed.

Thanks Kenneth, Saginaw is only about 1 1/2 hours away and I have been considering making the trek down there. BTW, do you know if they paid for the DLP or if it was a promo by Technicolor or one of the other people involved in DLP?

I have no idea of the financial status of the installation. I know that this machine will go to Troy after this run. The Cinema Hollywood is scheduled to be installed permanently in about a year from now.
