Anyone have interests or hobbies besides theatre sound/projection equipment? Some of my interests & hobbies are jukeboxes & elevators.
Note that the workings of various Seeburg jukeboxes in these photos are not mine.

Anything with an engine. Preferrably old American cars and Japenese motorcycles. But, being a mechanic for 2 years at a Yamaha dealership showed me that I would like to keep these things as a hobby and not a career. Tinkering with anything with an engine or moving parts still keeps me as entertained as when I was 5 years old.

Something of a petrolhead here too. I've been through the Austin Mini Cooper S phase, the British and Japanese motorcycle phase, and have currently come back to my first vehicular love, Land Rover, well Range Rover. Land Rovers are great fun, but you can't beat the leather and wood interior, super smooth transmission and suspension, and the power and burble of the Rover V8. Oh aye and it'll go just about anywhere you point it too!

Well I have an interest in photography both still and Video , Cars rebuilding and painting and Home Theatre DVD etc. but my work involves PCs so I try to stay away from those when at home.

Theatre (acting) - recently musical theatre, but I've had a lot of fun doing comedy work, too. I'm about to move into direction with PIPPIN (and possibly also JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR) in 2003.

I love playing with my computers. I collect Macintosh computers. So far, I have a 7100, a Powerbook 1400, a Blue-and-White G3, a Flower Power iMac, and a 14-inch iBook.

Music - My musical taste is very broad. I love classical music, but my passion is for songs I can sing along with. My collection includes hundreds of songs belonging to each decade from the 1950s to the present. The above-mentioned iMac is a dedicated iTunes jukebox (with a 5GB iPod for the car).

I get my kicks by working for a local stage theater, and also officiating amatuer sporting events. I also am working on an old fixer upper car for when my son turns 16 in four and a half years, hope to have that muscle machine bad boy in tip top shape by then. I hope that my son is as much a hound as I was, difference is, I will be on the sidelines cheering him on. GO BOY GO!!!!!

I also get very involved politically, and am one of those kooks you see published all the time in the local paper in the editorial columns. I complain all the time and seem to be never happy!

That and I am an amatuer filmmaker. I have worked on several projects over the years, but have never been able to complete any projects, considering I have actual obligations in life, like going to work and such.

I am a retired dancer (yep at 23 years old), cheerleader for Central Michigan University (yep at 23 years old) and I am very into athletics of all types. My family is also very important to me. The first love of my life is movies because I could remember seing them when I was only six years old. Next is photography which became my occupation for the last 37 years and still is. Beside movies and photography, I also have great passion for classical music. Although I live in island state in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to still enjoy some live concerts by the Honolulu Symphony and the Hawaii Opera Company. During the years when I had the time to buy season tickets, I have had the opportunity to see and hear live performances by Van Cliburn, Jaqueline DuPre, Ravi Shankar, Luciano Pavarotti and many others. I was there for The New York Philharmonic concert here in Honolulu with Leonard Bernstein in 1959 when they toured the western United United States. I also had an opportinity to see in person three famous modern composers including Aaron Copeland, Aram Khachaturian and Igor Stravinsky conduct our orchestra just a few years before they all passed away. Beside live concerts I also listen to music from my extensive LP and CD collection. One of the collection I have on records is all of the music Ludwig Van Beethoven wrote and about 65 percent of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on CDs.

With movies I can watch in a theatre and on DVD, photography which allows me to earn a living and express myself artistically and music that enlightens me, I find life very rich and rewarding.

Im a music buff i guess you can say, but have many hobbies to keep me busy, currently a student at tarleton state university (central tx)last semester of criminal justice degrees and also working for my masters (2 degrees law enforcment, corrections,(i am a former police officer ) I also play in a blues band, off and on, stevie ray vaughan style, being this this close to austin thats a gimmie, but blues basicly, and i do car audio installs, in high school i worked for a audio store and was a installer now i do it just for fun and the challenge, working with fiberglass and extreme installs for competion. years ago i took a adobe photoshop mastery class, and i still use that for "pocket change" as my wife calls it, making business cards and fixing old pictures and recently, having photos taken and going in and placing a light saber in the pic. But ive always been a film buff too and working in the booth cures that.....for now.

I Played Paintball until I started spending 300.00 Pounds every time I played. (every weekend)

I was in a team called the "Dead Sheep" based in Hereford.

We came 12Th out of 63 in the European championships in the mid 90,s
& were famous for being the most drunk team at the world speed ball championships, after starting drinking 7.00pm on the Friday & not stopping until 12.30 the following Sunday. In fact our most important part of our equipment was our Beer Cooler.

I miss going out & shooting some complete stranger then drinking them under the table that night. My liver on the other hand dose not.

Between the day job, the Wedding Dj thing on weekends, and the hassle of building this drive-in theatre... my most treasured time is spent with my wife and my son. We have another little boy on the way ... should be here mid-September.

As a hobby, I collect and restore old electric fans. My favorites include General Electric, Emerson, Westinghouse, Wizard, & Victor. Now that we have kids, I don't get to turn them on much anymore, as my son's entire hand will fit through the fan blade cages... so I just dust them and polish the brass blades every month or so. I've got about 25-30 of them.

Friends keep telling me I have too many other interests!

Past hobbies: Flying, ham radio, volunteering with USAFA cadets, fitness swimming (going to get back into this for physical therapy), 35mm and 2-1/4" photography, soundtrack music, collecting 16mm prints, piano.

Present hobbies: Collecting (and someday building) plastic airliner models (1/100 and 1/144 scales), collecting Japanese anime and movie theatrical posters, animation in general and selected anime in particular, movies on LD and DVD, studying Japanese language (MA/MS in Technical Japanese in my future?), home theater and HTPCs, callipygous women.

Future hobbies: US and world travel; finding new ways to squander my retirement; a real screening room; studying piano (and oboe) again, along with arranging, scoring and conducting (music minor in my future?).

Model railroading...ESPECIALLY brass models (all scales). Currently working on a Westside/Nakamura HOn3 D&RGW K-28...origonally rtr, but mine was a rare kit. Also have a PSC/Kemtron O scale Shay kit that I need to work on. My purchasing of a small mill and lathe are just over the horizon. I love model building in general! One of my prize possessions is a small model of Disney's Natilus from the 1954 film...but like most modelers, when the time is ripe I will scratch-build one.

As the old saying goes, Guys also have PMS!! PLASTIC MODELERS SYNDROME!!!! !!!!

I also love tube audio equipment and also have an interest in photography. Another passion is fine furniture making....

The only time we played army folk was when we took on 50+ army cadets.

Them all with single shot pump action & 7 of us with semi-auto.

They stood no chance, but still they came.

I am certainly no movie buff. I don't collect movies, know tons of facts about them or anything like that. I enjoy watching good movies. I enjoy being a projectionist, but I couldn't care less if the movie I am showing is bad or good (unless we are losing money because of it). All I care about is that I am putting on the best show I can. From that point it is up to the filmmakers to impress people.

Other crap I like to do is bicycle (which I can't do anymore since it got hit by the car), videogames, make home movies and edit them, and beat up people for absolutely NO REASON (it calms my insecurities). Just kidding about that last one, obviously.

A fellow model railroader. I have several pieces of HO scale brass models in my collection. Any particular scale you model in or Favorite Railroad? Mine is the Missouri Pacific in the mid 70's era. Next would be the Southern Pacific and then Santa Fe.

No particular road, and I do not have a layout. More or less I just love well made brass models...especially PFM/Tenshodo. I am a machinist by trade, so I have many tools of the trade. A hobbiest mill and lathe is just over the horizon so I can scratch build. Hopefully a computor is soon to come so that I can use a decent CAD program to do my own custom photoetching (superstructure fabrication).

My K-28 is turnin into a real project! I will post some pics after some progress is made...

With all this talk about trains, I thought I should share my little loco.

Okay, it's not really mine It's the B&O R.R. William Mason being restored for use in that "Wild Wild West" movie (the best part of the movie--what a waste). I documented the steam tests with still photos, video, and even some 16mm!

I love photography, especially of old roadside structures like decaying drive-ins, etc., collecting movies on FILM...oh yeah, kinda into Xena.

I, too have too many hobbies. To name a few, large format video tape, playing bass guitar, rebuilding projectors, film collecting, tube audio, amateur broadcasting, i.e, low power fm, harassment of the pet cat, and cross country running.

Those are all I can think of now, but there are more.

Hobbies, eh? Let's see...

I collect records. I am the only person I know that's my age that owns more of his music collecton on LP's and 78's than on CDs. Don't know exactly how many I have but I own every single Beatles LP on vinyl, including a copy of the White Album on actual white vinyl. The oldest record I own is "The Preacher and The Bear" by Arthur Collins from 1909. Yes, it still plays. The newest is "Dookie" by Green Day from 1994.

Desktop Publishing. I like to use my computer to create things, and as soon as I get my video capture card up, I will use it to create movies as well. I also use my computer to play Movie Boss, but that's another story... (Thanks to whoever started the thread about that game!)

I write poetry, but not your typical "Spoken Word" stuff. I write what's called "Slam Poetry", which is performed as a competition in bars and coffeehouses and the poet is scored by 5 judges randomly picked from the audience. It's a lot of fun, and there are state, regional, and national competitions. I attended last year's National Poetry Slam in Seattle which was an awesome experience. Since I started college, I also became very interested in radio, which prompted me to change my major to Radio/TV. The day I assembled and tested out my Ramsey FM-25 was probably one of the coolest moments of my life. I hopped in my car and kept driving around the block to see how far my signal was going. I also had my own radio show on campus for two seasons, and was called back to do it again this season, but due to being strapped for cash, I have to get a job instead . (but at least I might be back in a projection booth! )

Also these past few months, I've been working on building my screening room, so I guess you could say that's a hobby as well. Nothing major, just video projection (and NO DVD player!) and Pro-Logic sound, but I have real theater seats!! The "auditorium" (our living room) can seat 13 people. The screen is due to arrive today (which it better, because I planned a screening for tomorrow ) so pictures will come once it's all done. My friends and I have already "tested it out" by playing Nintendo Game Cube on a shower curtain.

I wouldn't call this a hobby, really, as I only do it when the occasion arises, but Dumpster Diving!! Yes sir, it's a goldmine on move-in/move-out week here in a college town. I've found everything from perfectly working computers, televisions, (the 35" in my bedroom was absolutely free!) to barstools, speakers, lamps, desks, and everything else begging to be in a garage sale. I met an interesting person while rooting around one day. He was a student at the college who was collecting bags of clothes that people have thrown out to be donated to a clothing drive. Sad thing is, his car was FULL of bags. Seems like people just emptied out their closets and left. These apartment complexes should request Goodwill to set-up on site instead of more dumpsters. *sigh*

That's about it I guess. For someone with so many "hobbies" I sure do have a lot of free time.

When I'm not working, which is most of the time. I do find time to play Slow-Pitch Softball and Bowl. I used to be a very competitive bowler and traveled a bit, but not enough time anymore, I have managed to bowl 3 perfect games and still carry a 215 avg.

I like the outdoors as well, hopefully I'll have more time in the future to get out and enjoy it, for now I live indoors behind my computer.

What old tv's have you restored? We have an RCA 8TS30 from 1948, a round tube (and round mask--I'm sure you've seen those) Zenith from '49 and a Stromberg Carlson of the same vintage.

Hey, Mark. Let's hear it for Harley Davidson motorcycles (I'm down to two). As I've gotten older my interest seems to be moving from performance to touring comfortably.

I'm impressed by the variety of interests. A lot of reverence for older things from fans to cars to electronic equipment. It looks like there are some creative people putting that flickering light on the silver screen. The myth of the Hunchback-esque nerd tucked away in a small room making the reels go 'round is taking a hard hit by the number of you who are family folks (my daughter just finished up her shift with me here at the theater).

Amateur radio - been at it for 31 years. I like "pounding brass" - morse code & copying the words in my head.
Restoring vintage (tube type) amateur and communications equipment - Collins Radio gear is my favorite

Used to moonlight as assistant chief engr. at local AM/FM radio stn.

I have several. An RCA 630TS (1946) that is restored and in working condition, still to do the cabinet though as its a bit rough but all there, an RCA 721TS(1947)Cathedral Top TV set and matching stand all restored and the cabinet is near mint original with the original RCA stand, a Pilot TV-37 from 1947 that is all restored, has a 3" screen and was the first TV ever sold for under $100.00, and an old 10" Emerson who's model # escapes my mind which was the forst set I restored. I also have a couple of later 50's Motorola 7" electrostatic deflection sets that are restored and a 1947 Westinghouse Catheral Top awaiting restoration in the wings. No Pre war stuff as of yet. A nice Andrea would round out the colletcion though.

i am a huge fan of the Beatles (John Lennon in particular), i collect memorabilia and records (watch out Tuesday September 24, 2002 it's A Hard Day's Night on DVD!). A lot of people i know find it funny that i like the Beatles so much considering i was born 3 years after Lennon was shot.
