I have one of those backlighted one-sheet display cases. It uses a thin sheet of translucent white plastic behind the one sheet. Over time, the white plastic deteriorated from the flourescent light and is now cracked, broken and useless.I called the original maker of the display unit (it is a company called JD Store Equipment, known now as JD Pacific Rim, and they will not sell the stuff....the only way to buy it from them is to get the complete display unit for around $300, which I don't want to do....the rest of our existing unit is fine!)
I've looked everywhere for a sheet of this stuff and had no luck. I've tried sign companies, glass companies, the internet, every store in town, etc. One sign company almost filled the bill, but theirs was twice as thick as what I need. The stuff I need is white, translucent (NOT clear), 45 by 35 inches, and 1/32" thick. Can anyone suggest where I might find it?

Seems like I've seen that stuff at home-improvement stores like Home Depot. They sell it as replacements for overhead flourescent lighting fixtures. Size might be a problem, though you could cut 2 smaller pieces and fit them together to make 1 large piece.

Colour filter specialists for film and stage lighting would have white translucent in a large sheet suitable for your purpose.

Try a local blueprint and drafting supply house. We use WHITE trunslucent mylar (not the clear see-thru stuff) for presentations, and buy it in 36" wide x 150' rolls for the plotter. A whole roll is like $75.00, but you could probalby buy it by the foot at a retailer. ------------------

I agree with Bernard in that you could use any number of diffusion materials made for theatrical/film lighting. Contact a local theatrical supply company. Roscolux makes a number of materials and any of the materials designed for theatrical lighting should hold up for ages in front of the fluorescent lights.
