I went into a K-Mart store Monday looking for a Halloween item and guess what? The candy and masks are already being crowded by the Christmas trees and ornaments!
The big problem is K-Mart isn't the only store putting the stuff out so early.
I have started to boycott stores that do this when I do my holiday shopping, I wish others would also. Dennis

Before he became a famous movie director, Tim Burton worked as a check-out clerk in a Walgreen's (or similar) convenience store. Upon seeing the juxtaposition of the Halloween and Christmas novelties he was inspired to create what would eventually become "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

At the stores here, it seems the Halloween and Christmas stuff is competing for space. Some stores have equal amounts of both, others have more Christmas stuff than Halloween. (TREES?? ALREADY?!?)Luckily, the malls haven't begun decorating yet. Although, I haven't been in a mall in about three weeks, so I could be wrong.

You guys are lucky!Over here in sunny Bradford they started putting out xmas cards,wrapping paper ,novelties etc in early September!

Our's start to go up early september, you can find xmas decorations on the shelves even earlier in perth stores!
You guys are lucky up north, try celebrating xmas in the summertime with temps between 30-40 degrees (c), having been raised in england, we dont feel that we've had a real xmas since 1980!
Our cinema is a xmas free zone, no decorations and we try not to even mention the word!

Personally, I enjoy seasonal decorations, but I agree that many retail establishments (particularly those which sell greeting cards) go overboard in this regard.How hard can it be to a) not put out Halloween merchandise before October, b) not put out Thanksgiving merchandise (in the US, at least) before mid November, and c) not put out Christmas merchandise until after Thanksgiving????

I totally forgot about Thanksgiving (which I have only celebrated once, when I was a student sharing a house with two Americans) - the timing of that must be ideal for preventing the Christmas crap from getting underway until the start of December.And just to completely confuse things, isn't Eid (Muslim festival to mark end of Ramadan) around this time of year, too?
