Alysson of the Dolby Los Angeles office and formerly of U.A. is battling brain cancer...I visited him and his family at the UCLA medical center and he was in good spirits...for friends of the Defaria clan we hope for the best.

A friend of many people, Alysson Defaria, left us last evening in a hospice in Phoenix near his family and home. His desk at the Dolby L.A. office has been vacant for some time...and it will be a long time to forget such a generous, unassuming person.
He grew in a family that has been in the technical end of the cinema business since 1915 which he and his remaining brothers are the third generation. He throughly enjoyed being behind the scene making "Magic" happen...be it Hollywood premieres, Sing along with Sound of Music at the Hollywood Bowl, or doing a creative fix on a leaky projector in a U.A. cinema. He said that he desired to retire in a couple of years so he would have time for us to do projects together....it would have been nice.

Oh, how sad. He was truly a nice guy. Got a message about his illness but had not heard anymore until now. Thanks for passing that on. He will be missed.

John
