We are trying to get information on the architect of our theatre. He was Frederick Americus Bishop. Born in Gainsville Fl. in 1886. Was in central Va. in the mid-teens. We have a portrait. a fair amount of info from his grand daughter but nobody knows where he went to school. He did no attend any college in Va. that such a program at that time. The next best guess would be Florida schools. There were few archectural schools at that time. Does anybody know what Florida schools had arch. programs in the early 1900's? It is also quite possible that he apprecticed with another architect instead of college. Can anybody help?

Bishop also designed these structures. It is likely that he worked for a firm (maybe in Tampa) before designing on his own.

Bishop designed 3 theatres, the Beacon and the Byrd in '28 and the Kilmarnock in the town by that name in Va. in '38. All 3 are still standing though the later one is now a retail store. He also did schools and courthouses thru out Va. and North Carolina and Florida. His office was in Richmond from the mid teens until his death at 57 in 1942. His work also includes many industrial buildings and warehouses. He also served as general contractor on the projects he considered most important.
