If you are being shown an "Illegal Picture... Stealing Bandwidth, etc." picture instead of what you expect to see and are using Opera check you preferences (ALT P) and make sure "Enable Referrer Logging" is enabled under the "Privacy" settings.

Here's the dialog box (of course if this is a problem you probably can't see this picture anyway -- try IE if you need to see it):

Another thing that can cause this problem is a firewall that is blocking the HTTP_REFERER from being sent back to the server. AFAIK ZoneAlarm does not block the HTTP_REFERER but some versions of Norton/Symantec firewalls do. Check your privacy settings and allow the HTTP_REFERER to be sent.

F.Y.I. There is really no way around this rare circumstance that Daryl explained above. I was about to have to take down the entire upload feature due to some porn scum overloading the lines who were using the Film-Tech server to profit on their adult websites. The number of bad links to other webservers was also causing issues with the forum and I was also about to completely block the use of images within posts as well. I think the way things are set up now is very effective and works well for 99% of the members. I consider the ability for people to be able to upload pictures to aid in the forum discussions very important and did not want to see this being put to an end.

Had it not been for Daryl's script, the upload feature and the ability to have pictures on the forum would not be here today. If anyone ever has a problem with the way something is done on this website, send me an email. If your recommendation is feasible, I will entertain the idea and/or determine (frequently with Daryl, Scott or Joe's help) if a script can be acceptably modified without losing the intent of the design.

I will add these notes to the FAQ as soon as I get the chance since after a couple of week's time these instructions will become buried in the forum archives. This is the first I've heard of anyone having this problem with the way uploads and picture displaying are handled. Since I have received no emails regarding this, it of course means that there is no problem. [Wink]
