Maurice died early this morning ( Sunday a.m. ) from complications from a heart attack prior to emergency surgery for an intestinal blockage which was performed on Thursday at Mount Sanai in Miami. The family has lived in Miami for 30 years and has always had a positive local presense. For many years the Gibbs would have weekend breakfast at the restaurant across from our office and had been on our premises several times. When the local "greasy spoon" changed owners, they moved to our other local "diner" ( Jimmys ) down the street. My partner saw Maurice a few weeks ago and noted he did not look too well. You may love or hate their music but we always considered them as very nice, approachable "local" guys.

Sorry to see this post. The Gibbs brothers helped define the music of the 70's--my youth. He will be missed.

The SNF and subsequent Bee Gees music epitomized my youth. To this day, every time I hear one of those tunes, I'm back in high school (and that little carbon arc booth I used to run). I can even remember the smells.
He left us too soon, it's a sad day.

I too am saddened. The Bee Gees get no respect these days, and a lot of their music is truly excellent. Very sad news indeed.

BOOO!
The news tonight ran a story that the family is questioning the hospital's procedures. Something about why the docs had to go in to deal with an intestinal blockage when MG was having a heart attack that's got them wondering if the surgery was necessary at that moment. The story's relatively civilized at this point, though the family was quoted as being pretty intent on looking for any problems.
