What is the strangest thing you have found in your theatre/auditorium?

Black Hawk Down – Pink vibrater with 5 foot attached remote control
Unfaithful - $1200.00 in hundred’s in an envelope under seat, gotta reward for that one [Big Grin]
Shallow Hal - Four used condoms all basically on top of each other (busy couple)

Once found about a hundred male kiddy porn pictures (most printed off PC & some Polaroid) in an auditorium trash receptacle, informed police & they were able to lift a print……… Nasty!

The film can't have been up to much if those customers felt the need of, err, alternative entertainment!

A pair of false teeth and a stun gun are the best I can do.

Sleeping customers, ladies handbags, wallets, pizza boxes, Chinese take-out boxes, joints, beer bottles (a couple of unopened ones once) used condoms, etc.
At one theater that I used to work at the manager came in one morning to find four feet of standing water at the front of one auditorium. A contractor had accidentaly cut through a roof drain during some repair work. It took 5 people with buckets and shop-vacs three hours to get most of the water out. [Eek!]

[bs] on the wall courtesy of a guest with a mental disability, and I heard that a film break during SW:Episode 1 (I think that was the film) everyone threw ANYTHING. Cheese from Nachos, food, popcorn, soda, mass-food fight I guess. Fortunately it was my day off. [Big Grin]

I was doing a Press Screening of "Get Over It" for The Today
Show. After the show, I found a pair of black fishnet panty
hose. The person was in the lobby area. So I go over to ask
if she has left anything in the auditorium. She says no, so
we go back into the theatre. I show it to her, a [Big Grin] big smile
comes on her face. So I give them back to her. So everytime
she comes to a screening, she jokes with me about it. [Smile]

We have a lost property box overflowing with the usual sunglasses, hats and phones, but the most unusual items i have found was a lipstick shaped like an erect penis, strange thing was it was a small audience of elderly women [Embarrassed] and the other was a sock [Confused] not overly unusual, but strange none the less!

My favourite item to find is soggy tissues, especially around the change of season, when cleaning in a dark cinema in a hurry picking them up just makes my day!

Bill --- Perhaps she was trying to tell you something. [Wink]

Seriously, my wife says pantyhose are very uncomfortable for some women, and they take them off as soon as they can, maybe even in the relative "privacy" of a darkened theatre.

Not that it's weird but back in 1960, I was managing a newsreel theatre in Times Square, I found a dead man in one of the front seats,of the auditorium. I Thought he was asleep so I kicked him a couple of times on the bottom of his shoe and then called the police who called the coroner and had him removed.

Good thing, because if I left him there he would really be in bad shape by now, after all it is 43 years later and I would hate to breathe the air in that auditorium now... [Wink]

Note to Bill: I think it's time to invite me to one of your screenings.

hmmm good timing on this topic... I found a utilised feminine hygiene product in a back row yesterday.

We've also found a DVcam tape with a very poor videoing of the film we'd just shown once...

I have found just about everything mentioned previously so far (except a dead body).

The strangest thing I have ever found:

I ran a dollar house in Miami (Kendall) for a short time and I kept finding these little CO2 cannisters in the auditoriums. I thought maybe kids were having pellet gun fights in the auditoriums, but I never found any damage. I was informed later that these cannisters are 'huffed' and teenagers bascially use them as a drug.

Dennis` comments re. the co2 cannisters answered a question which had interested me for some time. Quite often I have seen numbers of these canisters left in various places such as car-parks and gutters, recently there was a considerable no. of them left in the car park of one of our theatres.
Now I know what is going on.
What a stupid thing to do, inhale a toxic gas, the medical books will tell of the damage caused to the body by such pratices.
Regards, John Spooner. South Australia.

Yes, a friend of mine use to inhale them, it apparently gives you an extreme high, but i suspect brain damage would occur if done too frequently.
I've never tried them , never will, me aint stoopid!

Filling your lungs with pure carbon dioxide is simply causing asphyxiation -- you may kill youself from simple lack of oxygen. [Eek!] If you don't kill yourself outright, you may just kill part of your brain and risk a coma or permanent brain damage. [Frown]

Typically it is Nitrous Oxide, N2O, also called DINITROGEN MONOXIDE, or LAUGHING GAS. I was at a party when I was still in High School and they had a whole tank of the stuff. They were filling up balloons and handing them out for like $5.00 or something like that.

Various time we found empty bottle of wine, vodka and beer. But the most weirdest thing i found in a theater was in august 2001: a dildo's box in the women restroom.
You may thinkin: was made a guy in the ladies room?
After the theater closure. the projectionist make a check in every auditorium and the lavatory too.
One time a Usher discovered a man liying on the floor of the auditorium. the guy said: I've lost my keys. but the usher told him: and what your doing in the dark ?
The man escape him by the emergency exit.
It was just interesed by the money in the safe, and waiting quietely that the theater was empty to made this crime...

$4,000 under a seat. It was business bank deposit bag. The sad part is that the guy sent in his 10 year old son to go look for it.

While cleaning the theatre last year I picked up this plastic bottle of Mountain Dew sitting in the cupholder. It was full of yellow liquid and was approximately the temperature of a human.

I have yet to get my hand washed completely. (Mind you, it's the same hand that picked up the courtesy cup of semen a couple years earlier.)

One thing about L.A. that's different than Seattle. I have yet to find a cup or bottle of chew spit down here.

I once walked into a family washroom only to see a man on the receiving end of a great time! Funny thing is that the woman was sitting on the toilet and he was standing in front of her. [Eek!] When the man was confronted, he said that his wife was doing her thing on the toilet and he was looking in the mirror, and when he saw the door open, he turned and got in front of her so that nobody would see her. A great story not to mention the guy was drunk.............but his wife was amazing!

This thread is making me _really_ happy that I don't clean theatres now. The only place I've ever had to do it was in a small-town art house. The only stuff we ever found there was the usual boring junk: wallets, packing for various types of food we didn't sell, etc.

I used to run a drive in upstate NY and I would always have the janitor use a pair of gloves to clean the lot. I had a Tuesday special and one Tuesday I had some girls set up a tent in the back of the lot and go into business for themselves. I had the off duty sheriff shut them down they were most likely making more money than I did that night. I also had a couple that came in once a week and were engaged at the drive in. The drive in was the Marcy Drive In and the following year they introduced me to their daughter Marcy. [sex]

Money seems to be a slightly common thing here... About 20 years ago, two ushers found a briefcase with over $10,000 in it. They had only counted it that far, when a guy called on the phone about two hours after the show, correctly identifying the case and the theater it was in, saying he'd forgot it. The ushers (both about 20 years old at the time) were of course hoping no one would claim it, and had finally started counting it, but were honest and said they had it. The guy said he was very happy, and would give them a reward. He arrived, took the case, and gave them a tightly compressed, crumpled-up ball of bills. He then left quickly. Their reward was $23 in singles.

In a drive-in, we found some condoms glued to the speaker poles. The owner told me to remove them. My reply was "In a Pig's butt, I will.." That was the best and most pleasent way I could say NO, and have him understand that word.

He got mad at me, and removed them himself.... [Big Grin]

To stop it from having little bananas, perhaps? Or maybe it was someone's entry for the Turner Prize?

When we were given the obligatory condom demonstration during the sex education lesson in high school, the 'prop' used was a cricket stump. Talk about a sticky wicket...

I was going to post in this topic before but never did.

I found a joint also, on the balcony stairway.

The funniest thing I ever found was a sleeping teenager. We've had post-show sleepers before, but this kid was sacked out across 4 seats in the 3rd row from the front, after a midnight show, and couldn't be seen from the back of the auditorium. What made it funny was, he was from Colstrip (35 miles away) and all his friends had left without him! I left him sitting on the bench outside the theatre, cussing at his friends on his cell phone. Good thing I did my usual 'walkaround' after that show!

I've found all the usual beer and liquor bottles, snuck in pop and food, and all that sort of thing. Actually, one of my ushers found an empty bottle of cheap white wine once, which is unusual. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most, though, is something I found while cleaning after the Halloween remake on opening weekend. I picked up from under a seat what looked to be a cardboard courtesy tray full of chili, and was immediately perplexed both at how much "chili" there was, and how warm it still was. Only then did I realize that it was someone's vomit that they had decided to leave under a seat, and I let loose with profanities. Fortunately, the theater had been vacated of customers by this point, but my boss and coworkers were much amused.

Hmmh, the usual of course. Wallets, mittens, money... and the weird thing is how often you find one shoe. I think one rubber boot sat in the box for two years before someone threw it out. One sneaker, one high-heeled shoe... how on earth do you leave one shoe behind??

Just about two weeks ago, someone left a motorcycle helmet. Nobody came to collect it. Helmet, it's a thing you notice missing when you drive the bike from the theater, yes?

Geesh... and I just heard a staff member tell a story I hadn't heard before; a cleaner once found a briefcase full of money and a contract, seems the guy was on his way to buy a house. The money found its owner because the cleaner looked him up and called him, he didn't even come back looking for it himself!

Again, a thing you notice missing when you get to the bank, yes?

Being a drive-in, we tend to find just about everything. Shoes, various articles of clothing (outer-wear and under-wear), lawn chairs, blankets, tons of cell phones, various car parts, toys and action figures. We have a whole shoe box full of lighters.

One night we found a pillow case left on the ground on Screen 2 that had a Nintendo DS gaming system in it and a whole zippered pouch full of games. Waited 3 weeks and no one called or emailed - so I gave it to my boys. Last year I found an Ipod loaded with songs. Never heard from anybody so we decided we were gonna keep it. When I plugged it in to my computer, I found an email address embedded into the information of one of the songs and rightfully returned it to the 11 year old girl who it belonged to.

Grossest thing was a soiled "adult diaper" left lying on the field, and just last weekend - somebody took a [bs] in the field next to one of the parking posts. How do you do that and not get noticed? That's what God invented rubber gloves for.. [uhoh]

A couple of Thursdays ago, I was getting ready for the films that would play in each auditorium the next day. The outgoing film on our large giant screen was Chloe (flat) and the incoming film was Girl with a Dragon Tattoo or some such nonsense (scope). So I traveled downstairs to adjust the masking (we do not have motorized masking) and as I opened the auditorium doors and walked in, I noticed a guy sitting in the very back. He did not seem startled in any way by my sudden appearance. I informed him that the last show was over and that we were getting ready to close. No response. I asked him if he was waiting for something. One word "Yeah". I asked what he was waiting for. No response. I told him that nothing would be happening and that it was time to leave. No response. I told him that I was going to go get my manager, which I did. So I went and got the assistant and he came in and asked the guy similar questions and got similar responses, meaning next to nothing. He definitely seemed out of it, but not in a stoned or drunk way. So we called mall security and they came in and asked him questions and got similar responses. He still wouldn't budge until he saw the "badge" that the mall cops have. Then he got up and left. According to the mall cop, his pants were unzipped. I am curious why he didn't at least zip them up when I told him I would be back with my manager. Weirdo.

On Friday (I think) I happened to be standing by our projector showing The Hurt Locker (yes, we still have it and yes, people still come to see it). I was curious about how many people were in the auditorium, so I stepped forward and looked down on the crowd. In the second-to-back row I could see a couple, the female was straddling the guy. A few seconds later the female saw me and got off, then the guy looked up and saw me. I don't think they were unclothed (yet). They moved to the very back row. There were other customers in the auditorium as well. I told another employee about it and she went in and looked and said that they "weren't very young".

What?!?

That's disgusting. How could anyone do that sort of thing and get away with it?

It beggars belief that people would do that sort of thing and not feel at least a bit guilty. Don't they have any shame??

I mean, still running "Hurt Locker"? That's just not on.

The guy was on top when I found the couple at our theater. Very top row of a stadium seating theater, while the movie was running. I sent security in. The guy popped up, pulled up his drawers and sat down with amazing speed and dexterity. The girl laid there with no bottom on exposed for all to see until she stumbled up and got her panties and skirt all re-situated. Our guard basically said to them... "you can't do that here."

We had three drunks come in one night and go into a theater. One of them came out to use the restroom and he went into the wrong theater when he came back. Their wasn't even a film playing in that theater since it was after the last show of the night. When our manager did her rounds she found him passed out in the aisle and his friends had left.

Another time I walked into a theater to do a check and there were three teens in the theater by themselves. Two boys and one girl. One of the boys was having [sex] with the girl in the aisle and the other boy was just watching the movie a few seats away. When I came in they quickly went back to their seats.

If I had been in that situation and if there was no projector port glass in the way I would have attempted a Peter Ustinov impersonation and told the guy, "oh come now, Spartacus, we must be willing to share our pleasures."

Way back in '86 when I was just an usher . . .

We had 3 teenage couples come in and buy tickets for a kids show during a 7:00 set. They had wanted tickets to a R-rated movie, but it was sold out, and they weren't of age anyway.

They get their tickets torn, and walk right into the R-rated movie anyway. The manager relieves the usher on podium and waves to me also. He tells us both to go in there and get them out.

We walk in and the three couples are buck naked down on the floor in front of 300+ people having sex. They were quick because from the time they walked past podium to then, had been at most 1 minute. The other usher shouted "Hey" (he said that it surprised him so much, that he couldn't think of anything else.), and the three couples grabbed their clothes and ran out the bottom exit.

At least they did it in the R-rated movie, and not the kids show!!

Picture it....Marietta, Ga....the winter of 1992 (January), Town and Country triplex $$ house, our first theatre. Only two tickets sold to screen #2. Ha Ha, no need to check on only two people. After the show was over and I was checking the doors, etc. there was the "fixings" minus the meat from a four foot Sub sandwich on the floor. I'm talking tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, onion, etc. I knew what I was looking for as soon as I walked into the rear of the theatre. That very strong odor of a sub sandwich. I'm guessing the jumbo sub was hidden under someone's long overcoat.

I had a call telling me one of the ushers saw a couple go into the elevator on one floor and not come out again. I went to investigate and heard suspiciously non PG so I went and flicked the breaker so the doors locked open and the bright emergency lights came on. Then I made them walk out down the stairs in front of all the candy bar staff to leave. They have yet to come back...

About a year ago one of our ushers found a large soda cup filled to the brim with loose crap. To this day we marvel at how that person was able to defecate in a cup.

And only a few weeks ago, we found a pair of jeans on the floor of the same theater that was full of [bs] . that person had a bout of massive explosive defecation. but how did he or she get home with no pants. [Eek!]

We have the older 'perverts' that take care of themselves (tend to be creepy guys), the young horny couples (the most frequent), the prostitutes and the johns, and just the young teenage boys who for whatever reason decide to do their business in public.

Also, over the years, I have caught employees and managers alike involved in the 'nasty' in one way, shape, or form.

Why? I guess they are just human?

[Confused]

Customers having sex in a theater is one thing but employees doing it is out of bounds, AFAIAC.

I get the "sex in a theater" concept. It's dark. There's a risk of getting caught. That brings a certain level of excitement. Not that I'd ever do it but I understand why some people might do it.

But employees?? That doesn't compute!
Okay, maybe on their day off... maybe. But while they are on duty?
That's out of line!

Yes, they should receive a stern verbal warning with a promise of a write-up for the next offense.

No, if I caught an employee with his willy out in a public area of the theater he'd have to convince me why he should not be fired on the spot. If he got down on his nees and begged AND he caught me on a day when I'm feeling especially charitable he'd get a write-up for "ungentlemanly conduct" and a verbal warning that, if I ever catch him doing that again, he'll be canned so fast he'll think he is in a tuna factory!

If there was an especially "provocative" movie playing in the theater at the time and the employee just decided that he "had to have it" right now and he, at least, had the presence of mind to do it in the bathroom I'd probably do as you say, Joe.

I can be pretty tolerant of many things but that kind of behavior is where I draw the line.

I would be careful randy. If you just wrote up the employee and at somepoint in the future they sexually harrased another employee or customer the theatre could be held liable for having knowledge of this type of behavior and not terminating the person.

Ah, the beauty of covering your hind end legally at every opportunity. Sure makes this job fun with everyone always fearing for their jobs!

It really depends on the scenario. Public sex = no no, but if you walk in on someone in a semi-private place, I think it is more understandable.

I keep hearing stories about one guy who had the cops called on him for going out to the parking lot to get a BJ and someone saw him. Due to him being Union, even this didn't get him fired (from what I gather it was during the daytime too, an afternoon quickie as it were). Not that I'd ever do something this senseless, but I get down on one knee and thank God that I'm protected by the Union from little corporate brown nosers that swamp this industry.

Sean, you are correct.

That is why I said you'd have to catch me in an especially charitable mood and the employee would basically have to plead for his life. But I would also add that this employee's behavior would have to be exemplary in every other respect.

In any case, I'd say that any given employee's chances of surviving an incident like that would be 90%-10% against.

Regardless of the outcome, I guarantee the tone of the conversation would be pretty stern.

Jonathan, at least the guy you refer to had the presence of mind to go out to the parking lot to do his "personal business."

Randy: But it was during the day and apparantly it was public enough that someone called the cops. It was the theatre parking lot.

I wasn't there, but I can't really imagine how the story could've been exagereateed [Eek!]

Public area, Randy? But it is OK to have sex in a private area, like the booth or in the concessions back room, right? [Smile]

I tore out the equipment from a closed cinema and found numerous condoms on top of the Altec A4 speakers.

It's some kind of cheap thrill to have sex directly behind the screen where you can see the audience but they can't see you.

[Smile]

Any area where the person should not have reasonable expectation of privacy such as a bathroom with a locked stall door or ones own office with the door locked.

Anybody can walk into a stock room or a janitor's closet. You would reasonably not expect somebody to open the bathroom stall, unannounced, nor would you expect somebody to come barging into your office without knocking first.

This doesn't make it "all right." It just points out degrees of guilt in an "unmentionable" situation.

Jonathan, you're right. When the cops get involved, that's a horse of a different color. My point was, at least the guy went outside to do his business. Doing it in broad daylight was not the swiftest of things to do.

How about just "on the clock"? If they are off the clock, then they need to be behaving as a respectable patron if they are at the theater.

Hahaha, yeah, Joe, what happens in the booth. . . stays in the booth.

Sam, as for doing it behind the screen being a "cheap" thrill, that is relative these days, especially if it's a 3D XD IMAX whatever-it-is in the evening!

That's actually something I'd like to try [Wink]

The real bother with these sorts of things isn't that some people do them and get away with them, it's what they leave behind. . .

Clean up your messes, don't hand them off to us!

Joe, I was working in a theater in Bristol, VA when the GM and I were out back taking a 5 minute cigarette break. A car load of kids came zooming through the parking lot. They were hollering and making a commotion. A couple of them could be seen with open cans of beer.

The manager immediately recognized them as employees. He pointed at them and made the "You're out!" sign like a baseball umpire. About six kids all got fired from the theater even though it was their day off.

One by one, they were handed the write-up the next time they appeared for work: "Intoxication while on theater property" was the charge. Nowhere did it say that the employee had to be on duty. The fact that they were all underage and driving a car at the time just made the charge easier to make stick.

We walk in and the three couples are buck naked down on the floor in front of 300+ people having sex.
Was the audience still watching the movie or watching the live performance art piece? Choices choices.

I was wondering what the buck naked couple was doing while they were watching the 300+ people having sex.

I once picked up a cup of chewing tobacco spit that spilled all over my hand. But it could be worse. My coworker found a dead guy. Oh, and I caught two teenaged girls and one teenaged guy in the women's restroom. One of the girls was walking around in her bare feet. Nasty.

My most unsual theatre finds over the years:
Dentures (full & partial) numerous times
A prosthetic arm (forearm to hand)
A fanny pack containing an ATF officer's id and handgun (he returned for them in a panic a short while later)

Most disturbing find:
A headless ventriloquist dummy (not found in a childrens movie either)

Weirdest I ever heard of, but wasn't present for:
Naked asian man. A coworker of mine was using the restroom, when a completely naked man slid under the stall and greeted him. An emergency call went out on the theatre's radio, "We have a naked asian man in the restroom!" Turned out he was a mentaly challenged person who had been left behind by his group (I'm not sure how/why he ended up naked in the restroom).

Why does anyone wind up naked in the restroom, really. I mean we've all had those kind of days . . . .
. . . .
right?
. . .
. . .
anyone?
