This came up from another thread regarding the time it takes to compose and make a post. So how about it? Do you just rattle off a response and you're done a minute later, or do you spend 10 minutes going over it...20...30?

Personally, I just rattle my responses off, then I read them live on the forum. If something doesn't read right, then I do an edit or two. Generally I spend about 2 minutes per post on average since I am a fast typist.

Maybe 30 seconds to 4 minutes with several edits not uncommon.

I should spend more time thinking of my postings or replies.
I get to looking at some of my replies and wonder what the hell I was thinking or why wasn't I thinking.

Sometimes I spend a long time writing posts, especially if I am the topic starter.

Replies usually take about a minute or two, to get info out as quickly as possible.

Then I make as many edits as it takes to clarify things or perhaps convey just the right tone.

A brand new topic could take me quite a while to post. I've seen so many questions that only lead to more questions due to lack of information. As much as possible, I try to avoid that.

By the way, THIS response took me 4 minutes to type.

Sometimes if its a question thats a bit of a stumper, Ill read it and think about it for the rest of the day until I figure out the right answer.....then I come back and share the wealth!

I always write my posts in Microsoft Word so I don't have to worry about spelling & grammatical errors. I am really bad at making a point, so I take a while making sure that it makes some sense! Than a day or two after I post I re-read it, just in case, what I said makes no sense! [Big Grin]

I've rarely ever been able to adequatly get my point across. Either I ramble off too much or I don't say enough. Either way I don't make much sense so I take quite awhile to compose my posts just to make sure I'm not doing either. (See? That made no sense at all!) [Razz]

I usually take up to 10 mins to write a post, i must of missed the day they taught writing at school, so i have to learn as i go.
I HOPE my writing has improved since i first joined film-tech?
I still have along way to go though.

I've really enjoyed learning from GRACIA'S posts, who i feel is a very expressive writer [thumbsup]

i think it took about 7-8mins to write this

I'm like Phil, sometimes fast but most of the time slower, like 20+ minutes or so. I'm a fast keyboardist, but a slow composer.

I've found that I generally have an easier time expressing myself through writing than by speaking. ...yet my favorite form of written expression is fiction / story-telling. Mayhaps I ought to be an author instead of a projectionist? ...or maybe I could do both? [Wink]

As for my 'time spent posting' ... er, I can't say that I've ever bothered to clock myself, and as the lengths of my posts vary, so the the amounts of time I spend typing them.
My 'method of attack' tends to be to just type what comes to mind, then read it, checking for coherence & typos (spelling is not a stumbling block for me), then post it. [Big Grin]

Since I create all of my jokes from scratch and I am a terrible speller, and I drink a lot of martini's whenever I Post. I spend about 48 hours a day posting. [Wink]

Anything from 1 minute to "type it, then let it sit for a day or two and then post it".

Other times I've written up a post, and then said "the hell with it" and not posted it at all. That usually happens when I go off on a rant about something...often it makes me feel better just to type it out, whether it actually hits the site or not.

Averages 10-15 minutes.

I have modem set to hang up the phone after 10 minutes of inactivity. (Prevents the phone from being tied up all night by accident.)

About 3/4 of the time I get it in under that time limit.

My style is somewhere between Adam's and Paul's. I have taken as long as an hour, editing for clarity and brevity.

Sometimes it doesn't work, however, as I'll come back a day later and find that I didn't make it clear enough and it was misconstrued.

As I've found with editing trailers, there is a point of diminishing returns and any further changes only muddy the result. You have to know when to lock it up.

One thought that I keep in mind as a write / type, is something I heard my junior year of high school, in my US History Class. A student had inquired over the expected length of some written assignment, to which the reply was:
'Think of it like a mini-skirt. Long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep it interesting.'
