HICKORY CREEK – A masked man stabbed an employee of Rave Motion Pictures in a robbery attempt Tuesday morning, according to a Denton County sheriff spokesman.

For most of the afternoon, police searched inside the theater for the suspect, whom they believed might have been hiding inside. Police used both dogs and thermal imaging equipment to help in the search. However, at 3:30 p.m., the search was called off, with investigators saying they could not find the suspect.

"There’s a lot of nooks and crannies," said Kevin Patton, a spokesman for the Denton County sheriff’s office. That’s why the search took several hours, from around noon until 3:30 p.m., he said.

Police investigators said they now believe the suspect left the building immediately after the incident.

The suspect stabbed a manager trainee several times, police said. The identity of the trainee is not being released, pending notification of family members. He was taken by Care Flite to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

The manager underwent surgery, and police believe he will recover, Mr. Patton said.

"The first thing we want to do is to make sure our employee is OK," said Tom Stephenson, chief executive officer of Rave Motion Pictures. He said the injured man was in the Hickory Creek theater for training, and does not work at that location.

"It's obviously been a horrible day," Mr. Stephenson said.

There were no customers in the theater at the time, since the robbery happened around 9:30 a.m., before the theater was open for movie showings.

Mr. Stephenson said the theater would remain closed for a day or two so investigators can collect evidence needed to identify the assailant. He would not say whether there were any security cameras in use at the time of the attack.

Police believe that robbery was the motive behind the incident.

The man was described as wearing dark pants, a flannel shirt and a dark ski mask. He carried a knife and a shotgun, Mr. Patton said.

Several police agencies responded, including Carrollton, Corinth, and Hickory Creek police, as well as Denton County sheriff’s deputies and the Texas Rangers. Between noon and 3:30 p.m., the building was roped off while the search continued.

Police checked on every car in the theater parking lot, and each one was ruled out as being linked to the suspect.

Hickory Creek police will continue the investigation.

Mr. Stephenson said he hoped the 16-screen theater can reopen for business this weekend.

Rave Motion Pictures, based in Dallas, operates in Arkansas, Alabama, Florida and Indiana, according to the company's Web site. The Hickory Creek theater is the company's only Texas location.

Hickory Creek is a small Denton County community of 2,250 on the west side of Lewisville Lake, located between Lewisville and Denton.

I might haved missed it in the article..... Did the suspect get any money or did he just stab the guy & run off?
