Please reply here if you will be in Vegas on Monday and would like to get together with other Techers. We are going to go to Quarks for dinner and (hopefully) tour theaters around town. We need to make reservations with Quarks and theater managers though, so please RSVP here no later than Thursday night if all possible. If you will have a car, please note that too.

Count me in.
I have a car, but I will not be using it during the convention.
Posted by Aaron Sisemore (Member # 145) on 02-24-2003, 09:14 PM:
Kat and I will be there!! (with a car)
For those who aren't familiar with Quark's, it is the restaurant portion of Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. It comes HIGHLY recommended, even if you aren't a big Trek fan.
It is a one-of-a-kind experience!

I'll be there on Monday and definitely would like to tag along. I've got a car and can certainly give people a ride, but don't sue me if we get lost.
Posted by Michael Schaffer (Member # 1204) on 02-25-2003, 07:13 AM:
I will be in Las Vegas by Monday afternoon and have a car.
BTW, Chris, how long does it take to drive from the LA area to Las V.? I will actually be in San Diego this week but plan to go to LA on the weekend and then continue from there.
Posted by Paul Mayer (Member # 355) on 02-25-2003, 11:07 AM:
It's about 340 miles from San Diego to Las Vegas. Call it about five hours (or less if you have a heavy foot) driving time non-stop across the Mojave Desert.
Posted by Christopher Seo (Member # 7) on 02-25-2003, 11:29 AM:
Michael,
Paul's got it right. Where exactly in LA are you leaving from? Depending on the time of day, just getting through the traffic in the metropolitan area will take a significant amount of time. For the least traffic, it's best to leave LA either by 5am, between 10am and 2pm, or after 6-7pm.....

I'll have to send my regrets. Monday is the Independent Film Showcase and is a must do on our itinerary. See you all on the show floor or at the Film-Tech event on Wednesday night.
Posted by Christopher Duvall (Member # 284) on 02-25-2003, 05:01 PM:
Since I live here, I guess I will be in town.
However, that Monday is tour day, so I will be working my theatre. The rest of the week I will be working at ShoWest in some capacity with most of them being screenings. I can't wait...
Posted by Brad Miller (Member # 2) on 02-25-2003, 05:05 PM:
May we tour your theater on Monday?
Posted by Mark Gulbrandsen (Member # 72) on 02-25-2003, 07:25 PM:
Hows about we get together Tuesday instead?? Many will still be arriving in Vegas on Monday night.

I always plan for 6hrs driving time from San Diego to Las Vegas. I would go, but my car won't survive the trip.
Posted by Michael Schaffer (Member # 1204) on 02-25-2003, 07:56 PM:
I guess there will be opportunities to meet on Monday AND Tuesday and other times as well.
Mike, I really haven`t worked out all the details of my travel plans, but maybe I can give you a ride. All I really know is that I want to meet my friends in San Diego as soon as possible and get a bowl of Seafood Gumbo at the Bayou Bar - in San Diego`s Gaslamp Quarter on 4th and Market Street.
Posted by Brad Miller (Member # 2) on 02-25-2003, 09:16 PM:
Mark, the official FT gathering/drink is on Wednesday. The Monday thing is just for those of us who get there early and have time to kill. I expect it to be a small group of a dozen or less.
Posted by Oscar Neundorfer (Member # 458) on 02-26-2003, 07:32 AM:
I will be there on Monday and may be free that night, not sure yet. I will not have a car. Are you meeting at Quark's or somewhere else, and what time?
Posted by Christopher Seo (Member # 7) on 02-26-2003, 03:06 PM:
Brad,
I've got a friend who will be in town on Monday (Alan Sakaida) but won't really know if he's free in the evening until that day.

Bigscreenbiz.com is having their official gathering on Monday night. I can be there for the Wednesday Film-tech.com gathering. We will see how it goes. I have to work at my theatre Monday until 5 or 6 p.m. I will be out and about on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I thought they were getting together on Tuesday like they always do. Oh well, I tried. This is just a small informal way to kill time anyway. We'll see everyone on Wednesday.

I will be there:)
Josh
Posted by Paul G. Thompson (Member # 655) on 02-26-2003, 09:47 PM:
We will have to bring some of Josh's favorite drinks. When I pick him up at the airport, we'll stop by the local 7-11 and pick up a case.

I will be more than happy to give tours. I just don't know my ShoWest schedule yet so I may or may not be in my building on Monday now. I have ranted on this site in the past on trying to run the best booth possible, however those that are in the booth all the time may be able to pass some tips my way as well to run it even better. I will have my schedule Thursday night. BTW, Brad...booth tours will cost you 1 bottle of Film-Guard.
Gotta watch those P&L's
Ok..I am just kidding about the bottle, but my guys may want to talk to you about use of Film-Guard since I can't seem to get them to read this site. I will also see if I can get my tech to come by as well.

I'll be there at 8pm on Monday, my company is letting out of the cage long enough to attend, but gave me a list of things to go to & do , I leave on Thursday...I'll be only at the trade show, see you all there, Brad look me up around the Universal Cinema Services booth....

So what about that Monday? Where exactly is Quarks?

Quark's is in Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton.
I am not exactly sure what time it will be but we do have to make reservations (for a group) and hope to have the time and meeting place (if not at the LV Hilton itself) posted here no later than tomorrow night.
Brad will have more info as the plans come together

All you guys don't get so messed up that you wind up married to one another. I hear them Vegas weddings are quick. Oh, and if you see Elvis tell him I said hello.

Quark's!!!! Gosh, talk about your Star-Trek, nerd-ridden, no-class-atmosphere restaurant... I mean just because they have some cool crackling neon, a lot of cool sets, a really cool pre-show, and cool show doesn't mean I want to EAT there! Cut me some slack! (They do have crummy projection in the ride…every time I've been there it was dim and out of focus…70mm) …But the whole experience is way too cool!!!!!! I loved it!
I vote for Bob Maar to treat ALL us Film-Tech'ers on Tuesday night to a great sea-food dinner! Oh, and I don't mean "take-out"!

Sorry Phil, Bob and I will be dining on cow that evening while we discuss the best way to grill Rachel's pets. Care to join us?
Posted by Phil Hill (Member # 371) on 03-01-2003, 01:45 AM:
Well Brad, since I'm 1/125 Chinese, I do enjoy a good dog...Ummm I mean hot dog.

Not to worry then Phil, for the Weenie Man will be in attendance!
Posted by Phil Hill (Member # 371) on 03-01-2003, 02:11 AM:
Gosh Brad, I'm not referring to THAT kinda "weenie"! ...or "man"....
I was more thinking along the line of a Dachshund....but I guess you were more thinking of a Shiatsu. (With apologies in advance to my friend Paul)

Mmmm.... cow. Maybe I could get time off to come.
HEY! That reminds me, Adam still owes me a steak.
Posted by Scott Norwood (Member # 30) on 03-01-2003, 11:48 AM:
Darn...if I'd known about the seafood dinner, I'd have come this year just to see Brad complain about it.
Posted by Brad Miller (Member # 2) on 03-01-2003, 12:30 PM:
Complain? Who's complaining? Bob and I will have a nice time enjoying our slab of cow and washing it down with martinis.

Last call. Who will be available for an informal Monday theater tour and dinner at Quarks??? We must make the reservation tonight.

Me.
Posted by Rachel Gilardi (Member # 1016) on 03-02-2003, 07:10 PM:
Damn, I have no apparent reason to look in this thread but I did just to see who was going...and what do I see???? BRAD & BOB TRYING TO EAT MY PETS!!! No Dalmation dinner for you, I'm hiding her across the country in good 'ol Massachooooooosetts. Considering how I can't get a day off and I'd be too scared you would all make fun of my Chipper Boston accent, I'm not going~!
Posted by Phil Hill (Member # 371) on 03-02-2003, 07:28 PM:
Not to worry Rachel, we all can speak New-England. One just has to add a "R" to all the words that don't normally end in "R". For those that do end in "R", we just add an "A", like in "mirrora"

Posted by Brad Miller (Member # 2) on 03-02-2003, 07:36 PM:
Ok, the Quarks dinner has been moved to Tuesday night at 8PM since they have the place rented out for Monday night.
