Now as far as I am concerned it makes no difference. But what I would like to know is does anyone care or not if this film comes out. What are you antisipations and thoughts about this one.

Unsure... It'll be interesting to see how this kind of picture does at our indoor, since we're in our first year there.
As for the drive-in... we'll probably stuff the place & still have cars blocking the highway for half a mile in both directions. Pictures like this one, X-men, the Predator pix... heck... even "Con Air" packed 'em in. The second Matrix picture ought to do well. Too bad #3 will be released past the end of our season.

I have VERY low expectations for it. If it turns out to be any good, it will be a bonus.

I would rather that this movie just not exist. It has no reason to exist (story wise). Just the thought of a T3 kind of ruins the firt two movies a bit for me.

I feel the same about this one as I did about Jurassic Park III . A new director. No real plot reason for a third film. What's the point? It's pretty much just an obvious stab at making more money.
I guess Ah-nuld could use it though. His recent box office returns have been
. (End of Days, Collateral Damage, The 6th Day, Batman & Robin, need I say more...) Maybe another round of terminatin' could help put a little more zing in his career.
Cause let's face it - if Arnie isn't running around blowing things up then we'll just have to put up with more of Vin Diesel running around and drooling until stuff blows up.

I'm counting on it. Couldn't come at a better time than the 4th of July weekend.
Like Jack said, We're hoping the cars will be lined up to the highway!!

Nah Arnold got some pretty good pay days for the before mentioned films. I am not really looking too forward to this film and unless it is at least as good as the second one, it is going to bomb at the Boxoffice. I'd actually be more interested in seeing a True Lies 2 myself.

T3 should (hopefully) do good for our drive-in Thursday to Sunday & Tuesday. I doubt that Monday and Wednesday will be that busy though.
It'll really depend on what day most people get off work for Canada Day -- it'll probably be Friday (which will be convenient for Monday bookings), but Monday would provide for a better Sunday four feature.
Posted by Jack Ondracek (Member # 1466) on 03-05-2003, 12:05 PM:
We have the same problem with July 4, Daryl.
There are several well-organized fireworks displays in our area... shot from barges on our waterways. That, plus individual home-based celebrations kills most of our business. What's left is usually a very small group of displaced revelers, seemingly intent on setting fire to whatever dry grass they can find around here. It's pretty depressing, considering we'd also like to be out watching the big displays. So.... we generally close on the 4th, though I'm unsure we could get away with it on a Friday, which is when the 4th is this year.

I do not know why some of you are not looking forward to the the 3rd installment of the Terminator series. If it turns out to be bad, than knock it especially if it does not perform well a the box office. You just got to give Warner Brothers credit for producing a film that will bring many people into theatres and I know "TERMINATOR 3". will. If the studio does what George Lucas has been doing with his "STAR WARS" film by asking for more up front money in order to show his film, than that is
another matter but I am sure the new Terminator film will not come with a George Lucas type demand. I hope not, anyhow.

Why do this thread even exist? Why are people against T3? Does T3 effect you personally? Do you know first hand what the actual story of T3 is about ( other than what the title represents )? Are you let down that Jim is not directing. Do you hate Mostows directing? Is it because you think Arnold is too old for that kind of character today?
I would like to hear more reasons why some of you people think it's gonna bomb, before you have had a chance to see the actual movie. I don't think it's going to do as well as Matrix Reloaded, but I think it will do very well at the box office. All of this is just an opinion though.
Posted by Joe Morris (Member # 1553) on 03-05-2003, 04:25 PM:
Isn't T3 supposed to be about the end of the war against the machines? or is it going to be like T2 where they just fight in the present? I thought they were going to do the third in the future and show the end of the war...but if that isn't the case, i'll just wait for Bad Boys 2 instead.
Posted by David Stambaugh (Member # 1102) on 03-05-2003, 04:35 PM:
Unless the reviews are savagely bad, T3 will probably open very big and be good for theatres, and that's all good. The reasons I have low expectations for THE MOVIE: 1) There seems to be no need to continue the story except to make money (but it remains to be seen how well they handle that); 2) Sequels of big action movies are often disappointing, probably the majority are disappointing, so the odds are not good going in; 3) Ahnuld is getting old and I would just as soon remember him in his earlier roles than see him possibly looking bad in an action film now, though the degree of that issue's seriousness also remains to be seen.
Nobody WANTS T3 to fail (it's not a Miramax film is it??
). But when it comes to sequels, it's usually prudent to set low expectations and hope for a pleasant surprise.

Terminator 3 will go out through Warner Bros. in US/Canada, Sony (Columbia) elsewhere.
The Fourth of July release I'm looking forward to is Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.
WHAT?

T3 is set in the year 2005, just a few years from know. Miles Dyson's research was preserved thus leading to Skynets eventual creation. Another terminator ( The TX ) is sent back through time ( from the Year 2029 ) to kill us all, hence start the nuke war. John Connor has sent another protector back in time aswell, but this time I don't think it's John he is protecting. I think It's a girl this time as clues from the trailer and other sources seem to indicate.
I personally dont agree that T2 ended the story unless your content with alternate ending sequence. If you study T2 really hard you will agree that Cyberdine would not be the only place to store all data reguarding the super computer ( aka. Skynet ) that Miles Dyson was working on. The story of T2 set back the nuke war, how far is a question, but just as John and Sarah hoped to have saved humanity, they doomed it once again. In T3 terminators are a reality, alot earlier than what they were supposed to thus "Rise of the machines" is the result in my opinion.

Why do this thread even exist?
Because I want it to.
My point in making this thread was to see what everyones intrest was in the movie and how much anticipation there was out there among our fellow film-techers. I am not bashing the film or the fact that it exists or the fact that Cameron didn't do the film. If it's a good film great if it is bad oh well. Anyways thanks for the current and future posts to this thread.

"Why does this thread even exist?" Darryl, I asked that question because alot of people love bashing this movie without any knowledge of the film. Your topic pretty much opened the door for it ( no offence Darryl ), and seeing how there were bashers ( no offence guys, you are still fantastic people in my opinion )., it's pretty obvious that they know nothing about the film. Perhaps the thread topic could have been worded differently, but thats just my opinion.
Your still a pretty cool dude Darryl in my opinion, and an awsome film-teacher.

Until Terminator 3 becomes a member of the forums we're all allowed to bash it.
Anyways, the synopsis Warner Brothers sent me:
quote:
TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl, Kristanna Loken, Claire Danes
Genre: Action
Director: Jonathan Mostow
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Producer(s): Mario Kassar, Andrew Vajna
Screenplay: Tedi Sarafian
Synopsis:
A decade has passed since John Connor (Stahl) helped prevent Judgment Day and save mankind from mass destruction. Now 25, Connor lives "off the grid" -- no home, no credit cards, no cell phone and no job. No record of his existence. No way he can be traced by Skynet -- the highly developed network of machines that once tried to kill him and wage war on humanity. Until... out of the shadows of the future steps the T-X (Loken), Skynet’s most sophisticated cyborg killing machine yet. Sent back through time to complete the job left unfinished by her predecessor, the T-1000, this machine is as relentless as her human guise is beautiful. Now Connor’s only hope for survival is the Terminator (Schwarzenegger), his mysterious former assassin. Together, they must triumph over the technologically superior T-X and forestall the looming threat of Judgment Day... or face the apocalypse and the fall of civilization as we know it.

First of all, there's a difference between expecting a film to do well and wanting to see it personally. I have no doubt that T3 will make it's fair share of money, but that doesn't mean that I should somehow feel compelled to see it myself.
XXX did well at the box office - I didn't like it. Something About Mary did well at the box office - I didn't like it. Terminator 3 will probably be boffo at the box office - but I don't know if I'll like or not yet. As of right now, I'm not inclined to see it. Apparently this makes me closed minded.
Just because someone expresses a negative opinion and doesn't feel like getting into details, doesn't mean that they're not informed. I happened to know full well what the basic plot of T3 was when I came to my conclusion. And after reading it, I decided that I had already seen T2 and didn't really want to see it again with a female terminator and a John Connor that shaves. It didn't sound very original to me. Apparently, I was wrong for attempting to form an opinion that wasn't in line with Hollywood hype bandwagon.
NOTE TO SELF: Only positive opinions or "wait and see" non-opinions are informed ones. Got it.
Posted by Daryl C. W. O'Shea (Member # 1303) on 03-05-2003, 09:25 PM:
Maybe, being disconnected from society, John Connor won't shave! Now what do you have to say for yourself?
Besides that, you should know better! All opinions must be properly sourced!
Personally, I could care less if I saw the T3. My reasons:
- Sequels are generally not as good as the originals. (1)
- I didn't really like the first two movies. So it is likely I will like T3 even less. (2)
Sources:
- (1) General consensus of the industry professionals at the Film-Tech Forums.
- (2) The opinion of myself, a professional motion picture exhibitor.

Well, I don't think it really would have mattered how I worded the topic I think if someone wanted to bash it they would. I think that if I had put something like opinions or something along that line in the subject it could have possably just drifted off the first page without very many coments. These types of postings are important even if they are bashing because it will bring out the true opinions one would have about the film from those who care enough to make a posative coment. You would get the same thing if you brought the subject up with a group of friends. Someone will bash it forcing someone else to bring forth their opinions to support it.
No harm has been done here this is posative work inforcement.

What I wanna know is, how are they going to work the story so that Ah-nold gets to
the girl terminator. You know that's gonna happen.
Posted by Darryl Spicer (Member # 711) on 03-05-2003, 11:09 PM:
First he has got to catch her. Did you see how quick she was in that trailer.
Posted by Justin McLeod (Member # 1329) on 03-05-2003, 11:58 PM:
I respect your opinions Darryl S., Daryl C. and Nicholas R. All I can say is, we will know wether or not T3 will do well when it opens. Hey why not form a topic about the Matrix sequels. I hear no bashing on those soon to be released films. We could name it " Matrix sequels.....Does anyone care?"
Hey , why don't you folks register over on the T3 website and get in on the discussion boards pertaining T3. You will learn a whole lot more about the plot and probably develope a want to see it.
Posted by Joe Redifer (Member # 3) on 03-06-2003, 01:25 AM:
Probably because I don't care enough about this movie... or any movie... to waste my time on web sites devoted to advertising them.
Posted by Nicholas Roznovsky (Member # 861) on 03-06-2003, 01:59 PM:
Justin, I'm beginning to wonder if you were somehow personally involved with making T3. It seems to hurt you personally that I don't want to see it.
There's a difference between saying that you're not interested in a movie and bashing it. Now, if I were to say:
1) Arnold is a big crappy wuss
2) This movie will be the worst movie of all time
3) This movie will be only marginally better than the live-action Pinocchio
Then, I would be bashing the film. But just expressing a desire to not see doesn't mean I'm bashing it.
Piece of advice: Don't every base your opinion on something based on it's official website. These people are getting paid to make it look like the coolest thing since sliced bread. If that's the "unbiased" source of facts that "informed" opinions are based on, I'd rather be uninformed.
I promise to see it, Justin, so that you may sleep at night.
Posted by Justin McLeod (Member # 1329) on 03-06-2003, 04:16 PM:
Nicholas, thats a very well based answer, in the form of a ( OPINION ), your opinion. You still have my utmost respect though.
A word of advice: Please don't try to appease me for T3 sake. I don't have anything against people dissliking any move. They all are "just movies", you know, "makebelieve", for the most part. This forum is for anyone to who has an intrest in movies, film, playback proceedure/ technology, and the mechanics of it. We are all one big happy family here at film-tech, and all of this is just "MY OPINION".
