Yup. Lots of snow. I love snow. We have two feet in the city now (in less than 24 hours) and it's still supposed to snow hard until Thursday mornin'. You can't shovel fast enough. Side streets in the cozy, safe, white suburbs (referrence to "Bowling for Columbine") like mine don't get plowed/de-iced, so we are trapped inside. Theaters are closed right now. I am glad I have Tuesday and Wednesday off so that I don't lose any funds. But they had better be open by Thursday night! But that prospect isn't looking good right now. The snow will probably melt really fast and we will have flash floods everywhere. My basement will turn into a built in swimming pool.
Maybe I will take some pictures of the snow and post them here tomorrow.

Yes, please do so, Joe. Hey - feel free to send it all up here to Washington State's Cascade Mountains. Our snow pack is terrible shape, and the spring run-off might be enough to fill the resevoirs.

No. In fact you send YOUR snow down here! We are in a drought, though it could snow 19 feet and the "experts" will say that it won't even make so much as a dent in it.
Anyway, here is the single picture that I took quickly this morning at about 10:00am. It has been more than double this amount so far.

Seriously, though...I am glad you guys got at least some. I have a suspician that the entire northwest is going to have some serious drought and power problems because of the lack of snow.
The Army Engineers already said that if things go the way they have been going for the rest of the season, we have to make a decision about salmon runs. We won't have enough water to make electrical power and support the salmon streams at the same time. It might have to be "One or the other - but not both."
When I went to North Dakota this past Christmas season, the mountains were bare. No snow to speak of hardy at all. In all honesty, I have NEVER seen it that bad before!

Ok, Enough The snow should be kept in the Rockie Mountain High and in the Pacific Northwest. DO NOT EVEN THINK OF SENDING THIS TO THE EAST. I would be forced to send some meek little person to kick your butt.

As of 10:00pm MST 3/18, my parents have around 3 to 4 feet of snow piling up at their home northeast of Colorado Springs. The forecasters are saying they may wind up with more snow with this storm than they did for the storm in October of 1997 that dumped around 5 feet of snow in the 'Springs.
This is a pretty frustrating situation since my father wants to come down to Oklahoma to be with family over a medical emergency (one of our close relatives had a stroke and may not make it). With this snow storm, and another one forecast for Thursday-Friday, many in Colorado are going to be snow bound until early next week.

And the best part of it is, the big night of heavy snow is supposed to be tonight. I've already got almost three feet in my backyard and can look forward to at least three more tomorrow.

While most of you still have that cold white stuff on the ground, Hawaii is nice, Green and warm just like the views of the pictures Joe was kind enough to post for me last week that I took at the photo shootout at the Kualoa Ranch in Windward Oahu.

Green? Warm? It may be nice, but it's not nearly as much fun as pushing three other people's stalled cars out of traffic on your way to work!

I HATE snow! That's why I moved from Michigan many, many moons ago. I got tired of sliding down the freeways (or as they call them in Detroit..."expressways"). I mean, why bother to keep your your hands on the steering wheel, the car goes where the hell it want's to without any human intervention.
Ya freeze yur balls off, endlessly shovel show, see all the bare trees and lack of flowers....etc.
Today at my place here in Hollywood, it was 72, clear, mild, no snow in sight...just fucking beautiful! Here's a pic of tonight's sunset from my living room window.

I don't think I could live anywhere where the weather is always super nice and peachy-keen. How boring!
Anyway here is what the snow looked like at just after 1:00am Denver time. It is approximately the same angle as the picture I took above. This was a very long exposure with my digital camera, hence the graininess and slight discoloration. I do apologize for that. Don't flame me for the bad picture quality!

We managed to get a few set of shows off today before closing early. To my astonishment, business was pretty good despite Colorado State Patrol's suggestion that people stay off the roads unless it's an emergency. ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)
So far, the plans for Wednesday are to open the theatre if it is possible. Knowing that there's no way my car will bust through the huge pile of snow at the end of my driveway (even at 60 MPH!) I have dusted off the cross-country skis and plan on trekking to work. How many feet of snow does it take to keep people away from the movies anyhow? Even in "BLIZZARD" conditions I guarantee there will be at least some!

Joe, Joe, Joe.... It's not ALWAYS peachy-keen here... It does rain in torrents sometimes between December and March, and we have the earthquakes every now and then...but that performs a great service to weed-out the wimps. And, you know, by the time August rolls around, I really get sick and tired of all the nice weather...it makes me want to puke! I just like the fact if I want snow or to go snowboarding/skiing, I can take 2 hours and drive to the mountains for it. Then come back to the boring nice weather. Oh, well, such is life.

Awwwwww, Joe, don't feel sad! I grew up with snow in upstate New York. You get 6 inches, you dig out and life goes on -- just like the movie Snow Day.
New Jersey got 2 feet of snow over Presidents Day. I got my driveway plowed out Monday night because I live on a state highway. Only trouble was, the snow got into my car's engine and gummed up the starter. My landlady's husband cleaned that up with no big harm. My car ran fine for 3 days -- until a nonstop rain that began Friday night and continued all day Saturday. That nonstop rain ruined the starter for good. I had to get the starter replaced for a $220 repair bill. Not only that, the rain flooded my basement apartment!
The same thing happened to me in 1996 -- a weekend blizzard followed by flooding rain. ![[Mad]](mad.gif)
Heavy snowpack is not intended to handle rain.

When I was a kid, I lived in Syracuse, NY for a couple years. We got dumped on pretty good by lake effect squalls and stuff. I've been in some nasty snowstorms over in Buffalo.
But mountain snow in Colorado is an altogether different animal.
I've seen fierce lake effect snow, but that never caused much concern. The way I've seen snow fall up in Colorado is really kind of scary. It just seems to dump down all at once --and in this case just keep dumping and dumping and dumping.

Actually the L.A. basin rarely has any smog.... that is more San Fernando Valley and other inland places. (Which are all lumped in with the basin for reporting many things)
What I usually get is fog coming in from the ocean.
Oh, about the view.... I'm VERY happy with mine and very grateful I am here.

The snow has stopped (at least it has the last time I was outside) and everything should be fine, but the biggest problem will be getting out of the neighborhood onto the regular streets. I live on a side street with about 30 inches of snow that hasn't been plowed. My driveway is all shoveled. But that doesn't do any good if I can't make it down the street!

Over here further west in Golden, I measured 58 inches in a field next to our house. We woke up this morning to discover that all of the carports in our townhome complex had buckled under the weight of the snow overnight. (Fortunately just the front edge, trapping but not damaging our cars.) I got to spend three hours from 4:30 until 7:30 this morning removing snow of the carports so they wouldn't collapse any further.
Crews came out with bulldozers to remove all of the snow from the driveways, but our cars are still trapped underneath the carport roofs.
I'm glad that it's finally stopped snowing. According to one of the news casts tonight, some areas in the foothills received 90 inches of snow! Since our "official" measurement is taken at the old airport, we'll end up with a lame ass sounding 29 inches as the official total for Denver, but almost everyone on the west side of town has nearly twice that much sitting in their yards.

Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse NY compete for the city with the most snowy winter. AFAIK, Syracuse has a slight lead so far with about 130 inches, with Buffalo trailing in last place.
