Anyone have info on when the next Cinerama showing at the Dome in L.A. will be The Cinerama Adventure site has not been updated in a long time. I would like to go up there to see How The West Was Won if they are going to show it.

AFAIK there are tentative plans to run HTWWW at the Dome sometime late spring/ early summer but nothing definite as yet.

Dick, how was the widescreen weekend, I wasn't able to make it again this year?

Have you considered trying to get one of the kinopanorama films sometime?

Also, as another special event, how about a full day Imax festival sometime, running some of the older films hat we haven't seen for some years?

It all went well though sadly I wasn't in attendance as I have had a rather nasty ear infection which laid me up for two weeks and I the developed Bell's palsey in the left of my face! I blame it on the Canadians as it started shortly afterI returned from my six weeks in Toronto.

We have occasionally run short festivals of IMAX golden oldies . There was a tentative plan to do it this year as 2003 marks the 20th anniversary of IMAX in Bradford but it fell through.

Perhaps next year for the 21st Birthday celebrations!

You probably got sick because you were in Oakville -- maybe it's the pollution from the Ford plant.

I suppose the wind could have been blowing east from Hamilton while you were here... that could explain lots too.

Hope you get well soon... I know a few people that have come down with Bell's Palsey lately, all of them 'cleared up' in a few months time.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. Luckily the BP seems to be clearing up real fast so I no longer dribble my beer out the left side of my mouth

All I have to do now is hope the SARS problem in Toronto clears up before I fly out there again in mid May!

Well Dick, they just expanded hospital access restrictions to ALL hospitals in Ontario, no longer just the hospitals in the GTA. So it might be a while yet.

Somewhat annoying, as a few of my classes, which were in the McMaster University Medical Centre lecture halls, have been cancelled.

On the plus side (for you anyway) there probably won't be any snow by then. It did snow today though.

Just heard from a relibale source that a brand new three-strip Technicolor print of "How The West Was Won" opens at The Cinerama Dome Theatre on Sunset Boulevard May 2nd.

I'd like to know also. What is the story with the status of the IBTech line? Technicolor's website lists dye-transfer printing as one of their current services, however some people have said that the new line was shut down and taken apart again a year or so ago.

There are 2 new prints of HTWWW that were struck from the original elements. Paul Allen's Vulcan, Inc has one which played at the Seattle Cinerama last year as well as last month. Pacific Theaters has the other. They are not dye transfer. (This info comes from David Strohmaier)

I called and confirmed with the Arclight (323-464-1524) that they will be showing How The West Was Won for a week starting May 2nd. They didn't have showtimes yet. I will be driving down on Sunday May 4th to see the show.

I saw "HOW THE WEST WAS WON" early in it's Road show run at the Cinerama Theatre here in Honolulu and found it had one of the most fantastic soundtrack I ever heard. As many of you know, I love music and Alfred Newman is one of my favorite film composer of the past and the the music he wrote for the film especially the overture, Main title, Entr'acte, exit music and the sound effects of the fight on the train loaded with logs was awesome! I still fondly remember the experience and envy all of you who have an opportunity to see the film at the Cinerama Dome again or for the very first time. How does the film sound it it's present condition? Did it lose some of it's dynamic range over the years or does the film pretty much sound the same as it did back in 1963 when it was first released?

The only people who can see it again at the Dome are those who attended a special SMPTE showing earlier this year. The original 3-strrip run was at the Warner Cinerama Theatre on Hollywood Blvd).

Bad news. looks as though you will have to postpone your trip.

Just received an e-mail from ArcLight Guest Services stating that they have moved the "launch date" (sic) to later in the year to allow them to better promote the film.

Well I hope when they have a new date they will give more than a two week lead . I was planing to go on the 4th. I live only a 1hr & 1/2 away but I would like to know at least a month before so I can get a group together.

I was going to suggest everyone email them complaining about the short notice but apparently they have already reconsidered and the word is that it's been pushed back to July or August. This is per the usually reliable Marty Hart, posting on newsgroup rec.arts.movies.tech

Of course there is still the chance that they won't announce it until shortly before so perhaps an email suggesting plenty of notice would still be a good idea. Click here for a mail form.

The Arclight Cinerama Dome Theatre has scheduled two screenings of "THIS IS CINERAMA" for Thursday evening Oct. 21st at 7pm and again on Saturday October 23rd at 10am. Special shorts and extras will be featured after the performance of the picture.
