Today I went into a specialized Mac store in San Diego (recommended by Mr Olpin) in the hope that they carried some really good monitors rather than the trash they have in big stores like Fry`s and CompUSA. I was actually on the hunt for some of the better Samsung models. They only had LaCie monitors - which I had never heard about. After looking at them carefully, I was left with the impression that these are probably the best CRT monitors I have ever seen. They have a very sharp, uniformly bright picture with very good geometry and color, and there is a ton of alignment options. They also run at high refresh reates even at high resolutions.
I think I may have to buy one. What is your opinion about them?

If anybody wants to know, I bought the LaCie monitor. It is BY FAR the best monitor I have ever owned or seen.
I strongly recommend anyone looking for a good CRT monitor to take a look at one of these.

I bought a LaCie electron blue 19 for my home computer several years ago, and its just as bright and sharp as it ever was. I was fortunate to get one of the last ones made with a Sony Trinitron tube in it. The later blue II and blue III used something else. The blue IV looks much nicer.

I do not like LaCie hard drives at all.

LaCie monitors are very nice. For roughly the last decade they have been popular among graphic artists and photographers.

The monitors can be pricey, but you can buy units that include spectrophotometers which accurately measure monitor gamma and color output from your printer to develop ICC and ColorSync profiles. Pretty important stuff if you do a lot of color printing work.

Radius also makes a good series of graphic arts monitors.
