The following is from SKY NEWS in the UK on 7/3/2003:
quote:
A former projectionist at the White House has revealed which films President Bush likes to watch when he is not running the country.
Definitely a fan of war films, the US President is said to love Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan.
Paul Fischer also discloses former presidents' favourites in a TV documentary.
He reveals Bill Clinton thought highly of High Noon, while JFK backed Spartacus.
According to Fischer, the first film Jimmy Carter watched while he was in power was All The President's Men.
The movie is about the fall of his predecessor Richard Nixon.
Apparently Carter watched a total of 580 films in the White House, more than any other president.
Could be an interesting documentary.

Stories about the White House projectionists always make good human-interest tales. Once every so often (on a slow newsday) somebody will profile them for an internet piece, or as stated above, a TV documentary.
I've read that these guys are on call 24/7. If POTUS wants to see a film at 4:00 AM on a Sunday morning the operator has to go. Its got to be a cushy job though - one machine, regular customers, probably meet the special guests like directors, stars, and such. Hell, I'll bet depending on the President there is probably room in fallout bunker for these guys.
Now thats what I'd call a benefits package

For those of you that haven't seen it...
It is called: "All The President's Movies"
And it basically uses the log books of the projection booth to identify what films were viewed and by whom. It also indicates when Presidents influenced and were influenced by Hollywood.
IMDB page for the Documentary
Look for it on BRAVO
