I figured I would waste some of Brads server space by starting a thread that post pictures of things we have and don't know what it is or goes in.
<e first, I found this in a box of stuff I got with a couple of projectors I picked up. It looks something that would fit a older projector. Beats me.
What is it?

It looks like some sorta archaic projector gate. When the gate is closed, the knob moves outta the light path.

Powers or Western Electric gate maybe?

It's certainly a gate of some kind, although judging by photos I've seen, I don't think it's a Western Electric.
This is a great idea for a thread. I can't count the amount of times I've been going through boxes of old parts, or old booths and come across things that can only be classified as "whatchamadiggits"...

Looks like a sound gate.
I worked with a similar looking device on a BTH soundhead in 1959 fitted to a Kalee 12.

Is it for 16 or 35mm?

If it is anything to do with sound I don't think it can be for 16mm because one of those runners would obscure the track.

It appears to be 35mm.
