So today, thirty years has gone, since I bought my little flee circus here, opening with "Paint Your Waggon" on two Bauer B5 with Microtechnica Carbon Arch lamps (30 A) and 2000 feet c/o.

Of course, there has been a couple of bumps in the road now and then, but great fun most of the time, -and a living...

Ready to go on - maybe not for another 30, but yet a while. -Celebrating the aniversary with Charlie's Angels and Hulk definitely was not, what I dreamed for, though. -Luckily, The Third Man and Chicago are here, too ! [Smile]

You may discuss if it's a matter of "getting used to...", "To accept things as they are" or not being able to/willing to accept, how bad it really is....

July 13th, 1989. That's when I started in this business. 14 years. Congrats on your anniversary. Hopefully I will still be posting on Film Tech when I reach my other milestones

July 12th of 1973 for me was a day that I wish never existed. What I went through on that day is something I would never want anyone to go through, even a person I bitterly hated. I will leave it at that. It is very personal.

On July 13th, 1989 (as mentioned in my above post) I started at the Cobb Coralwood 6 Theatre in Cape Coral, Florida. A gentleman named John Zampi hired me on the spot and it was a Thursday (like today). I remember thinking to myself -"Why the hell would I want to work at a movie theatre ?".

Well, that was officially 17 years ago. According to another above post - the first 17 years are the worst. So is it really all downhill from here?

Maybe I'll clean the popper tonight in celebration......

June of 1981-just past the 25 year mark. The first five years are spent telling friends and family that it's just something to do until you finish school and get the "real" job. After that there is too much projector oil and popcorn butter in the blood to do anything else!
Really can't imagine doing anything else. Friends I went to college with have changed professions several times and still hate going to work.

And with me, I've always managed to find theatre work - never did any unemployment in the 37 years that I've been in this crazy field. Never had any unemployment gaps in my work history...and still like going to work...-Monte

Started at the Grandview Drive-In in Angola NY in May 1967. Early films shown include "Alfie", "Georgy Girl", "Bonnie and Clyde", "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?". Started my career at Kodak on June 8, 1970. [thumbsup]

Never been a full-time projectionist; just done relief work at various places over the years.

Projected my first reel of film in 1963, at the age of six. It was some sort of short, another cartoon I think, being shown with Disney's 'The Sword in the Stone'; my first visit to a cinema. I can't remember what the machines were; they looked big!

I've run 70mm just once, LOA in about 1975, I was running half a pair of DP-70s; I was on one machine, and somebody else was on the other. Also run plenty of 16mm, and video from time to time, but never 3-D, Cinerama, or anything else odd like that.

Time to retire soon, I think.
