What is your movie theatre life long screen count?

For example: I have worked at:
two, two-screens. = 4
two, six screens. = 12
one, nine screen. = 9
one, twelve screen. = 12

Total screens I have worked at = 37

I am only counting theatres that were consistent employment, not a week or two transfer helper or special events help. [Razz]

This only counts places where I have been paid to run film. I have only worked once at some of these places. Subtract one if 16mm doesn't count. Currently, I work once per week at the 6-plex and fill in semi-regularly at two singles.

The wonders of working on salary and filling in at other theatres for their managers vacations. This was all for the same small chain.

As a paid projectionist:

5 single screens
2 three-screens
3 two-screens

Making a grand total of 17.

Add three more single screens if unpaid projection at student film societies count. And add another single screen if you count the occasion when, as a customer, I fixed a show breakdown. It was a little fleapit on the North Devon coast. The projectionist had gone home after starting the last show, and about an hour into the film the sound went. The manager stopped the show and offered everyone a refund (I later found out that the projectionist had gone home, 10 miles away, and had subsequently drunk himself over the limit and so could not come back), at which point my 'friend' shouted 'He's a projectionist, he'll fix it!'.

I couldn't really refuse under the circumstances, so up I went and found a blown exciter bulb. They had a spare on the shelf, so I replaced it and restarted the film. I left a note for the projectionist telling him to reset the Dolby levels, but judging from the layer of dust over the CP-55 I don't think it had been opened up in many years.

They would have had to give out a fair few refunds if I hadn't have been there, because it was almost a sell-out house.

If you count that Kodak film has probably been shown on just about every 35mm screen out there, and I've worked on most Kodak films over the last 33 years, somewhat over 100,000 worldwide, plus the four that I worked as a projectionist at during college. [Wink]

Years ago, I tried to figure out how many changeovers I'd made. Since I also worked some platter houses, I changed this to just how many times I'd threaded a projector.

Lost count around a quarter of a million...

As assistant of Projection Supervisor:
Two, two screens = 4
One, three screens = 3
Five, four screens = 20

1 - Indoor (Worked there for 3 years and then bought it) -- Changeover 1976-1980, then platter

Total: 2

I also ran 16mm movies in my bedroom "theatre" when I was too young to work at the real one, so I guess my total is actually 3.

My career was almost entirely "bounce list" relief or special event work--these are the only ones where I was considered full-time:

Thrillsphere - 2 screens for 2 years
Universal Pictures "Casino" screening room - 1 screen for 4 months
Caesars Omnimax - 1 screen, 2 tours for a total of 3 years

Total = 4. Not a lot to show for 20 years in IATSE, ey? [Embarrassed]

How the heck can yous remember all that stuff?

I worked as a projectionist for only 1 theatre and that was when I was 20-something.

Have technically designed/built well over 350 special venue 435/835/570/870/1070/1570 theatres and simulator rides.

Most of the theatres in this list I have owned, so I didn't work in all of them on a day to day basis, but naturally was at all of them several times a week. At one of the theatres, the one I still have, I was the house manager myself and was there 3 or 4 days a week when I had those other theatres. During the past 15 to 20 years while I only had a couple of other theatres I would be here 5 or 6 days a week. For the past 7 years that I have had only this one theatre I am here 7 days a week. I have kept my office here in this theatre and have personally managed it for the past 33 years.

The list:
11 single indoors
6 single drive-ins
3 twin indoors
Total screen count = 23, but the actual total of different theatre locations = 20

I did a stint at the Cobb Pavilion 10 in Naples, Florida.

While there, I helped open the Cobb Hollywood 20 also located in Naples, Florida.
