Gigli starring Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck has been pushed from its July 30th release date to August 1st. The movie will now go head-to-head with American Wedding.

OH NO, I am devastated. [Roll Eyes]

Guess I'll have to stick to the tabloids for my Jenn and Benn fix. [Razz]

What the hell kind of title is GIGLI?!?! How is that pronounced?
Is it like "jiggly"; as in "her tits are jiggly when she runs"?

Bad idea to release a film with a title people are not sure how to say.

I agree, this is a dumb title.

The correct pronunciation is "ZHEE-ylee" but I've heard it being referred to as "jiggly" and "giggly." It is, indeed an Italian word and I'm sure the movie will attempt to enlighten us as to its meaning. As for me, I'm not that interested. I saw the trailer and couldn't get past Affleck's thick accent.

I'm also not gonna be a sucker to waste time and money in hopes of witnessing "chemistry" between the stars (Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez) who -- for those reading this in the future -- are currently f**cking.

Speaking of which, there's another movie coming out called "Grind" which, down here in The Bahamas, means "f*ck." There goes the A-Rating!

Usually not a good sign when a movie is pushed back. I can't think of a GOOD movie that was pushed back in its release.

Whether you thought it was good or not Titanic was originally a summer 97 release. Now the movies production may have caused the release to be pushed back. But it still was a push back situation.

One critic said it's even WORSE than Swept Away.

Supposedly they had to give away tickets to the premiere just to fill the auditorium, and during the show several people walked out. [Roll Eyes]

Sony has been yo-yoing on the release date for Gigli and didn't firm it up at 8/1 until a couple of weeks ago.

Want a real shocker? Bend It Like Beckham gets re-released on 8/1 -- and goes at least semi-wide (~1000 theaters). Somebody must have a hunch that not even JLo might save Gigli from giving off B.O.

First weekend $3.75M+ from 2215 theaters -- average $1,694. As one wag has put it, "Gigli Rigli Bombs".

On Rotten Tomatoes the current score for this Razzies hopeful is 7 fresh, 99 rotten, a rating of 7%.

It funny, I started this thread as almost a joke and cannot believe all the replies. That being said, I cannot believe that we are forced to waste a screen on this for another week. This is a perfect example of how screwed up the distribution contracts are. It wont suprise me if Sony makes us keep it for a third week with the usual threat of withholding future product. Isn't this a great business or what? [Roll Eyes]

Sony has pulled the plug on "Gigli" TV ads. Sony has replaced prebooked TV ad slots with teasers for "Bad Boys II". "Gigli" cost $54 million in production costs and another $22 million in advertising bills. [thumbsup]

that's great so we don't have to watch anymore ads for this winner. [thumbsup]

With "Freaky Friday" starting today, Cinemark has already dropped "Gigli" to just 2 evening shows after only 5 days. Do you think it'll be gone Friday? [Wink]

I think a LOT of theaters probably dropped Giggley down to a split house today. I doubt Sony will let it go after only 7 days. However I'll be surprised if very many theaters keep it more than 14.

With the booking luck the Carmike 8 has here in Lawton, they'll probably be stuck with it for at least another couple weeks.

If it weren't for Wallace Shit Cinemas (that characterization is fully deserved of the Cache 8 here), the Carmike would be able to punt that Gigli turkey out of the parking lot.

This is probably one of the strangest film changes I've encountered in a long time. We run Gigli through Sunday of this week and dump it. It gets one show Friday, Saturday and Sunday then goes out entirely! Why run 3 shows in 3 days of a turkey, gobble, gobble?

Next week brings 4 new wide releases. Carmike should have no problem dropping Gigli then.

As of Wednesday, the AMC Pleasure Island 24 was still running TWO screens, both full sets, of Jiggly despite Freaky Friday. Dunno what will happen this Friday.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that GIGLI will retain for the second week the same count as last week (2125).

Like most everyone, I expect to disappear very very soon after that.

I'm quite sure GIGLI is not a very good movie (although some very qualified reviewers said it wasn't as bad as people have said.) But it can NOT be as bad as MANOS: HANDS OF FATE.

Does it have scenes longer than 32 seconds? (They only had a hand-wind camera.) Does it make sense? (MANOS doesn't) Is its title redundant? (Manos is hands in Spanish, so the title is Hands: Hands of Fate.) If not, it can NOT be as bad as Manos.

In time, MANOS will reascend to the top of the heap, where it belongs. I leave it to you to decide what is in the "heap".

"Manos" isn't good by any strech of the imagination, but its so bad and so cheesy that its actually somewhat fun to watch. "Gigli" is [bs]

"Gigli" is leaving most of our screens.
In a way, it was a blessing for me. Because there were no guests in many shows, I could just stop the movie and run tests in the houses where it was booked rather than waiting until it dropped at 1:30 in the morning.
