Which truck toolboxes do you prefer for safety, weather and sun protection of valuable equipment? The black hard foam or the aluminium ones?
Are there any brands which you would recommend or which are to be avoided?

I would never ever leave my tools in my truck. I prefer the rolling suitcase type of tool box so that I can easily extend the handle and take it into the theater or hotel with me.

Aluminum reinforced, with locks. Secured to the truck bed. The plastic ones have a tendency to distort in the sunlight.

Micheal, I use to drive a 95 MazdaB2300 and I had an diamond tread aluminum tool box. It was built by "Better Built" I think. It had the 2 door open verses the 1 big door. I advise getting a 2 door box. I loved having a tool box, I think there are must for every truck owner.

I didn't have anything of real value in my tool box except for jumper cables and rope. Never had a problem with theft. Avoid the plastic ones, the sun can bend the plastic.

If you have tie downs on the truck, you will have them pulled out to mkae room for the tool box. They asked me, when they installed my tool box if I wanted them put in front of the tool box. I said no. Bad mistake, make sure get tie downs. It will help in the long run.

Although, the locks of most toppers I've seen are usually pretty flimsy. I believe I'd trust a secured toolbox before I would a topper, although I must admit I've never owned one of the toolboxes - I've only shopped for them.

The aluminum box will last much longer than the plastic one. Make sure it is bolted down securely, possible both through the truck bed and the side rails. I would also recommend either a drop-in bedliner or one of the sprayed-on polyurethane liners.

Install a plastic bed liner. Caulk the seams, install 6 12v marine bilge pumps & convert the bed to a huge hot tub.
