Anyone out there have some 4X DVD-R media recommendations? My only requirement is that the tops be shiny or blank white. Nowadays just about all CDR media is as good as another (can't think of the last time I made a coaster), but I've found a lot of blank DVD discs have defects, especially toward the outer edge.

Pioneer model DVR-A05 4X burner being used. I have heard good things about Ritek G04 media.

I can't recommend any specific media, but I *can* say that Pioneer A05 burner drive is a good one. It's actually one of only a handful of drives that Sony supports for PS2 game developers (interestingly, no Sony drives are on that list).

Yeah, and if you remove the cover to your PS2 and put a "new" flip top lid on it, you can copy PS2 games with a boot disc. I haven't tried that, but I hear you can do it. I just wish the PS2 didn't suck as much when it comes to the hardware (bad graphics, slow processor, looooooong load times, etc). The Dreamcast was almost a better system on most accounts.

But yeah, Maxell makes the most compatible DVD-R media. But I don't think they make them faceless.

I've never had any problems with the 'Datawrite' discs from ebuyer.com (a British computer supplies online retailer which has recently opened up in the US), and they're ridiculously cheap too - I'd guess around a dollar each after the currency conversion. I'm using a Pioneer DVR-A03 and very rarely burn a video DVD which refuses to work in someone else's set-top player.
